I was curious about the price so I checked it out. A one way to Fort Lauderdale on Allegiant air is $88 on June 3. You hop on the train for $5 from Fort Lauderdale Airport to Miami International. Layover is 3 and a half hours, so you have plenty of time. Or you can fly direct from Indianapolis to Miami for $20 more buy layover is waaay longer.

Flight from Miami to Medellin on Viva the same day is $87. That is $180 without bags and seat assignments.

I can do that round trip for about $350, if I take a day layover in Miami / FLL, for the date range of my next trip. Which might not work because I may be doing a 3 way trip. First a weekend in Las Vegas, then to MDE, then home to IND. Depends on some other plans.

Never knew about the FLL to MIA train, which changes things. Fares to / from MIA are usually much higher than FLL for me. Fortunately, I travel light, just a carry on and a small backpack.

You've definitely given me other options to look at.

How strict are Viva personal item restriction? Medium size backpack ok? Are they checking every bag in the measuring box? Thanks.

All kidding aside, your post may be an eye opener for many of the newcomers and in-experienced mongers here in Medellin.
