If my math is OK then 1700 pesos is like forty dollars. If it's a stateroom and overnight, and shooting fish in a barrel, why not just live on that boat for a month or so? Or am I missing something here?
Sure sounds good...two just sank in last week. have a great trip.

welcome on aboard!
I'm visiting the Phils in July, and I'm thinking of taking the Superferry from Manila to Cebu. It's an overnight ride, but you can get a stateroom for I think 1700p. Anyone ever use the stateroom or Cabin? What do you think the chances of meeting any nice Filipinas onboard would be?
I have experience this last May. One of the two boats that sank was made of wood. The other one was manned by incapable captain not tying the vehicles on board properly and they got loose along the way that cause the boat to tip. Anyways, if you have to take a boat, I suggest take the Superferry 12 because Superferry 2 which I took was small and there are not much room to roam around and hunt for cuties. The Suite Room was fine (there were only 2 suites), you will have two single bed, a table, cable TV and your own toilet with shower. But dining was bad. You will have to line up with the rest of the second class and third class passenegers. As for me, it worked out just fine because I was travelling with a date from DIA. With Superferry 12 I suppose you as a first class passenger will have a separate dining. Don't forget to visit the roof top, the sunset and sunrise look beautiful up there. This is also a good place to strike conversation with a cutie. As I've said, I have company so I did not have a change to try this option. But my educated guess is that your change of hooking up with a single lady is slim to none as most of these ladies travel with companions weather families or friends. But if play your cards right and lucky enough, nothing is impossible. Just don't forget to smile and be friendly. Hope this help.

Bars open early in Cebu?
Other than Silver Dollar, are there any other bars open before 4pm?
I have experience this last May. One of the two boats that sank was made of wood.
As a former Navy officer I would advise that once you get to your room, you make sure you have a life preserver, preferably the solid type, not the inflatable. And a nice to have (buy and bring) is one of those clip-on waterproof strobe lights.
If you should go down, think positive, you can drift in most any direction and hit land eventually, unless the current takes you into the South China Sea...

It sure would put a dampener on your vacation, though;).
Seem to recall that when the Dona Paz sank in the world’s worst peacetime maritime disaster, sharks killed quite a few of the 4000+ fatalities.

I just don't see why you would want to be locked up on a boat with limited opportunities when the cost of a plane ticket is very cheap in the PI. I think your chances are better getting to Cebu fast and hitting the local mall. When I'm traveling to Cebu on my days off, I can't get there fast enough by plane!!!! But let me know how it goes for you.

EXCELLENT advice to check the life preserver when you get to your cabin. In Sept I was taking Transasia boat from Bohol to Cagayan de oro and after getting comfortable in the cabin i opened the cabinet marked LIFE PRESERVER and lo and behold it was EMPTY. i went to look for the guy who showed me to the cabin and found him and told him there was no life preservers in the room. He came back with me and saw the empty cabinet and said "OH we moved them to the drawer under the TV "and then proceeded to open that and there they were. I said but the sign says they are in that cabinet. again with the response " well we moved them to the drawer under the TV. I said well if the boat is starting to sink I would expect them to be where the sign says. He smiles and said well you would still be able to find them,,Sometimes the Pinoy logic escapes me

One of my better shags was in a sleeper room on a train from Penang to KL Malaysia. One I would like to try is on a Japanese bullet train in a private room. The trains fly by stations and you could be butt naked and leave the curtains open.
I have gotten laid in a United States Naval vessel (CVN-70 Carl Vinson to be precise), but not while underway. Was with an Australian girl. Getting laid while underway would be fun, because of the ships movements and vibrations. Oh a little memory. A couple of the enlisted men were busted with helping an aussie girl stowaway on the boat on that trip. Heheh seems there are lots of places to hide on a big ship, but wtf where they really thinking?
Oh and add to your survival pack a signal mirror for daytime use. And a whistle.

Hotels In Cebu
my goal is to stay close to the action, do you have some decent hotel recommendations. through reading the forum, i know marriott maybe an option but a bit pricey. is their cheaper options but that are decent and have high speed internet. thanks for the information. then hilton hotel is definitely not an option for me because of distance, too bad i would have loved to use up my points and not pay.
if you want to stay very close to the action, then you should consider beverly boutique hotel. it's very close to mango avenue where all the top gogo bars are at in cebu. nearby is mango square where there is juliana disco club and karaoke places. it's not the nicest hotel but, the walk to the nearest gogo bar is literally just under 2 minutes. the rooms is small for the standard room but the price is cheap at $32/night. there is no internet in the room but, there is free internet in the restaurant and lobby. the wifi is slow though. also, consider the parklane hotel across ayala mall. the price is more reasonable than the marriott and it has internet in the room if you get the deluxe room. the taxi ride is short from parklane to mango avenue. i enjoyed my stay at parklane hotel. the staff is friendly and it comes with a free breakfast buffet between 6-9:00 am most of the hotels in cebu are guest friendly. do not book it through parklanes website though. you can get a cheaper rate with expedia.com, agoda.com or hotels.com.

I've been on overnite ships before (but not the one from Cebu) and I can tell you that having a life preserver may not save you. I found that on the boat I was on the hallways were very narrow and if the boat had sunk rapidly (as most ferries tend to do)--only large ships ,like ocean liners or naval vessels because of their size and having multiple airtight compartments tend to sink slowly, but on a smaller vessel it would be almost impossible to get out of the room, pass the narrow hallways- which by now will be packed with other passengers trying to get out and then climb another narrow stairway up to the opening just to jump off into the dark waters hoping not to hit anything in the water---thats why in most ferry sinking most of the victims are still found INSIDE the boats because most simply can't get out in time--so good luck.

My 2 cent
IMHO, you have a better chance of surviving in a sinking ship than in a falling airplane.

soapy massage
I'll be hitting Cebu in the early part of March and may spend a few days in Dumaguete and Manila.
My first rookie question is this; I know this is a Thai specialty but are soapy massages available in Cebu?

I will be back in Cebu in a few days and will give it a look because I'm also interested in knowing the details. Just had one at Annie's last night!
Peace out!
