Optician, Shoes and Pool Cues
Some useful stuff I came across,
I came across a custom shoe shop here on my last trip and this trip had a pair made. Takes a week but absolutely outstanding! Business card attached.
Was wandering deep in the bowels one day and came across this little garage shop on a very secluded soi. He is a pool cue maker, done right there in his garage with 1 assistant. No English but very nice people and some great work! Looks like he will make any type of cue and could probably be shipped as I have been buying some specialty bicycle parts from a Thai guy on E-Bay and his stuff gets to me (eventually) and in 1 piece so I know it’s possible, to the US anyway.
Had some prescription sunglasses made last week. As a test tried 2 different opticians. First was not that far from my hotel in a little old shop under the Saphan Taksin station on the skytrain. More specifically, at the base of the large, half completed hotel that has been standing for years. This shop, which in every way is relatively unremarkable, needed 1 whole week to make the lenses. 1800bhat (I didn’t negotiate). When they came in the optical clarity was very good. During that week I had St. Moritz opticians on Suk between 6 & 8 across from the Landmark make a second pair. I originally walked in the shop on a Satturday and the older lady (owner I think) quoted 2500BHat. I said that is high but I would be back. Went back on Sunday but the place was gone. Seems they are closed on Sundays and when the gates are down there is nothing to indicate a business resides there! So came back on Monday, showed her the frame and she had forgotten her last quote and offered for 1800bhat (same high index, multicoating tinted lens) but she quotes me 2 days. Got the glasses back and I think the clarity is a very little bit less but I may be imagining it. Wore them both on consecutive days and I am extremely satisfied. I will be bring 2 more pair for St. Moritz to make and I’ll try to get her down as far as possible and report.
When, pray tell, was this??
hmmm, was a day when being black entitled one to a little polital incorrrectness now and again...
not in my lifetime, and i listened to the "i have a dream" speech live.
He should get paid, Giotto.
Naughty, Absolutely correct. Why should the author get paid for writing his book?
QUOTE]
A fair and reasonable amount.
$37.00 for a downloaded work of fiction is thievery, pure and simple.
If the price was a more reasonable, say $8.00 or $10.00, people wouldn't feel the need to steal the bits.
And wouldn't be justified in doing so. (No honor among thieves!)
Happy New Year to all!
