Since I speak neither Tagalog nor Visaya I'm not sure I can answer this definitively, but according to my wife, Tagalog isn't all that helpful here. Most people of course speak Visaya and most (according to her) are not fluent in Tagalog, though they do understand it fairly well. English however, works fine in most cases, though the bar girls are not very competent in the language. Of course, since you're not going to discuss Aristotelean logic or Shakespeare with them it probably doesn't matter much.

Hey thanks Sky Ward for the very tactful "watch your ass". I appreciate all the warnings and I know that most everyone is making sure I don't get stuck in a jam. After reading all the posts, I addressed the issue with the girl and told her I had to meet her alone first. I was fairly specific, but if she ignores this, then I'll just walk away until we can meet alone or I'll move on. It would be a bummer to go all that way and have to turn back, but she's pretty firm on meeting me at the airport. I'll let you know either way how it goes.
Thanks GE for the hotel referrals. I'll check them out this weekend. Any opinions on flying Phil. Airlines? I am taking them back to U.S. for first time and want to know if the meals suck, etc.
I'm bumming DS is not going to be in town on the 15th when I get there but GE and whomever else, lets get together for some drinkage. No matter what happens, Davao is going to be my home base.

GE[/QUOTE]Lol well probably not Aristotelean logic but Shakespeare with his tragedies, dramas and comedies wouldn't be out of place. I once discussed Hegel's dialetical process with a filipina, I was out of my depth, she was a philosophy major. Hegel is good for understanding a virgin who wants to have sex and not have sex at the same time. I wouldn't mind finding a lady that I could have a reasonable discussion with beyond the carnal.
Okay thanks I won't brush up on my limited Tagalog.
Achilles, "drinkage" sounds okay to me. You sound like you've thought this through so I doubt you'll be sandbagged by anything that happens. You already know all the warning signs. I'm still curious about the location of that airport though.

Achilles, I haven't flown PAL for any long distance flights, but I use it all the time to go to Manila and I'll be using it later this month to get to Singapore. The service has improved dramatically over the past couple of years, and it's become my airline of choice here, but I usually fly Business Class, wherein the service is excellent and attentive. In fact, I'll be flying PAL to Manila tomorrow.
Spoke yesterday to the DS who was in Manila having his usual excellent time. I think the total weight of the champagne he carried over outweighed his clothes, but then some things are just more important. I look forward to sharing a bottle or so with him next week in Davao as it looks as if we'll miss each other in Manila. Too bad, since I wanted to go with him to Ermita to see what we could see, but he told me he wants to come "home" to Davao and that's a feeling I understand very well.
Bilbo apparently found a lady who understood Hagel; something I've never come close to finding. Living here, I don't miss much about the West, but I do miss meeting women with whom there's a shared intellectual connection. The exposure to what's typically thought of as "Western Culture;" literature, art, philosophy, history is so superficial and so brief, that there's virtually zero shared cultural context here, even among women (and I supposed men) who have advanced degrees. Reading for pleasure (that is, reading entire books) is uncommon in the Philippines, where the mental model is much different. This is not a lament or a criticism, and it's entirely a personally-held point of view. Sooner or later, even when you find a lady you really like, you've got to get out of bed and actually speak to each other and the problem then becomes what do you speak about?
I find that in my own day-to-day life, I compensate for the lack of any sort of discussion requiring ideas and logic through the expatriate friends I have with whom I do share an intellectual history. I guess the difference between being a visitor--who isn't terribly concerned about this stuff and just wants as much excellent sex as he can find--and a permanent resident, is that the latter needs to find something aside from sex that gives him pleasure in his daily life. In my case, that would be my circle of non-Filipino friends.
I have no idea why I raised the topic except that it's something that's occurred to me more and more as the months and years pile up.

So I went to the office to pay for my ticket. I checked out PAL's flight book and it looks ok. The movies might be on one big screen instead of in seat monitors, but they serve a meal and that's all I care about. I guess I'll find out soon enough. I'm bumming to find out that there are no flights out of Davao to Cayagan De Oro. My girl is suggesting she send a van for me, and is worried I will get lost on the bus. What's your read on this? I could change my ticket to go from Manila to Cayagan De Oro, but my flight to US is from Davao. I'm worried the price (which was great) will jack up if I change to go out of Cayagan De Oro, and the whole point was to have an escape in Davao if things are screwy. But she said it was a 10 hour ride. That sucks. I'll PM you when I pay the membership fee GE, but I'm getting into Davao on the 14th. See you there.

The buses are air conditioned with comfortable seats and movies are shown during the ride. It's all good, and there's no need to change your ticket. If you don't want to take the bus, you can fly Davao/Cebu/CDO for Php6,000 round trip on Cebu Pacific. The flight to Cebu is less than an hour as is the flight from Cebu to CDO. I'm going to CDO for three nights next Wednesday, and with a car and a good driver, the trip will take about 4.5 hours with one stop. I think the idea of renting a van is foolish but if you like I can show you where to get one with a driver here in Davao. There's no possibility of you getting lost.
We went out to dinner with DS last night at Claude's (Cafe de Ville) and I have to say the meal was excellent. DS purchased a bottle of Ruitnart Champagne and shared it with the table, as I was also with my wife and two business associates. It was generous of him and well appreciated as well as delicious. When I saw DS in Manila briefly, we shared a bottle of Veuve Cliquot La Grande Dame which was even better. The man does know his champagnes, and the two of us decided to buy and share a mixed case of French reds from Claude. All in all, it was a fun evening. The DS was with the lovely Cheryyl who continues to impress.
Let me know if you have any more questions Achilles, and feel free to PM me once you get the membership.

Famous quotes on Champagne:
"There comes a time in a woman's life when the only thing that helps is a glass of champagne". Actress, Bette Davis 1938
"I poured Gigi (22 Xi'an, China) a glass of Vieuve cliquot and told her to 'drink up'. A few minutes later she helped me off with her pants and panties". Adventurer, Dragon Slayer 2003
"I want sex" Professional singer/beauty Jen 2007 (comment made after 2 1/2 glasses of Taittinger.
"This is wonderful. I am drunk already". Beauty, Cherryl 2007 (comment made after 2 glasses or Ruitnart at Claude's, Davao City.
"___ ,you have something with this Champagne; last night we barely made it in the door before going at it" Philosopher, GoodEnough 2007 (same night as above quote).
For my 800th Post I thought you would enjoy the above discourse.
Happy Thanksgiving Day to ALL OF YOU.

Guys,
For 18 years now Filipinas have been telling me where I should stay, where they will meet me and anything else they think they can get away with saying. I always answer NO. Remember who is in charge. If you let a young lady in CDO, Davao, Manila, Cebu or whereever the fuck tell YOU where to travel to or where she will meet you, you will be doing this for the rest of your life.
Be a MAN for fucking "crying out loud"!. Take command. If you allow a lady who earns in two years what most of us make in a few days tell you how it is going to be, you are in sorry shape. I just got a text from some girl here saying, "Baby meet me at Gaisano mall on Illustre St". I am a 60 second walk (I walk slow) from there. I told her, I will go over to O'Flanagan's Pub in five minutes and stay there until 4:00PM. She must think I need the pussy.
The Golden Rule : "he who has the gold rules". Want to be a jelyfish (no backbone), "go for it"! Want to be a man and get pussy and NOT hasseled, then listen to your Slayer.
I lost a friend here when his woman, about 33, little education and NO MONEY, tried to fuck me over with my Jen. All this to gain more control of her wimpy boyfriend. The result, the guy has no friends. Even GE's wife said she will not meet with him or his "woman" ever again. I suggested to the Kid that he call the guy but he wants nothing to do with him afte he tried to fuck his uncle over (me). Actually it was his ++rch but the Kid says it is all the same and the guy had better not be caught so much as jaywalking in NYC.
Dragon Slayer
Yeah yeah, I'm a jellyfish, I'm a girly man, my pussy hurts and sometimes I get the menstrual cramps real bad. But let me say in my girlish defense I am not one of those people who values his weight in gold, or lords it over people who don't have it. Not at least until I know who I'm dealing with. If someone tries to get over on me because I'm being respectful or a nice guy and thinks that I am weak, then I know what kind of base person I'm dealing with and I can reveal my higher position to get a check on it. I try to conduct myself with everyone on an equal level until I have good reason to do otherwise. If this makes me a pussy, so be it.
Now on a more practical level, I also don't want to have her find her own way to Davao and screw up my back up plans and safe zone in case she doesn't work out. That would be such a bigger hassle than just going there to check things out. You're right DS, I have the cash, so it's no big deal for me to travel out there. Besides I want to go out there and look around Cagayan De Oro. She knows the score, and that I am flying out of Davao back home. I don't know anything but IM talk and cam from the girl, and talk is cheap as they say. I'll get a good read on her seeing her in her comfort zone and how she acts in it.
DS, I know your way works for you and I respect that. I know that all of the knowledge has been from experience and you and GE are just trying to help us avoid being whipped. But I'll stumble my way through this and get my own lumps maybe. Then you guys can whack me on the back and say "I told you so." But whatever happens you guys will be the first to hear about it.
Now I have to go to douche.
I almost forgot. Happy Thanksgiving to all. I am most definitely jonesing for a drumstick and some stuffing. Instead, I have a bad cold and have to listen to football games on real player. Hope you guys kick back and enjoy the day of gluttony.
We went last night with DS and the lovely Cherryl for Thanksgiving dinner to Cafe de Ville (Claude's Place) as every year he presents a set menu for a turkey dinner. It was probably the best restaurant meal I've ever had in the Philippines and, coupled with two bottles of excellent red Sancerre, made for an excellent time. The place was reasonably crowded for a Thursday, even though most of those enjoying their Thanksgiving turkey were not Americans. Of course the downside is that it's Friday. I need to work. And my head is still ringing from the last few glasses of wine.
Claude's place is on Rizal St., just in front of Henny's and just down the street from Bar 183. I don't usually go out on Thursdays, so I don't know if last night was an anomaly or the normal pattern, but there was a steady trickle of fine looking woman strolling in one direction or another. These were not street walkers, but I'm sure some were approachable. I saw four or five each time I went outside to smoke. It could be that a slow stroll up and down the three block area at about 9PM on any given night is a good alternative to find non-pro women.
Achilles, I forget if I mentioned the Mallberry Hotel in CDO in earlier posts, since I'm getting old and somewhat senile. If I haven't however, I would suggest it as a place to stay. It's new and very attractive, has wireless Internet in every room, and the staff will not hassle you about anything. It's also within easy walking distance of decent restaurants and directly across a narrow street from the entrance to Limketkai Mall, so the location is excellent. If you're thinking of staying there, try to book several days in advance since it fills up frequently. I will be there next Wednesday through Friday nights and its one of the few places here that I actually look forward to staying.
I know you're going to meet someone in CDO, but if you also want to take the time to wander at night in other pastures, the two best clubs are Gion and Bada Bing. The latter is directly across the street from another club called Ontic and just down the street from still another that used to be called Home Court, but which recently changed its name. No matter though, you can find it easily since it's only about 20 meters from Ontic. Until quite recently, all of the girls in all of clubs stripped down to their shoes, but I hear the mayor recently put a stop to that, so it may be only panties and pasties now.

I have not been checking the Forum the past ten days. GoodEnough was kind enough to handle this. Sorry for this.
My Sincere apology to Achillesheel. I did not intend to insult or offend him. When a guy posts on this Forum he has the right to be treated with dignity and respect. I did not intend the Post for you and I should most likely not have made it in the first place. Again my sincere apology to you.
I have a few new items to Post and I will share them with you guys later. GE and I went over to O'Flanagan's one day and I returned two nights later. One thing has changed. The new Filipina owner has begun inviting prostitutes into O'Flanagan's in the evening to hang out. She is doing this in an effort to attract business. As I told GoodEnough, I think this is a great idea. The place has been dead and only a few expats coming in to drink, mostly in the afternoon or early evening.
The addition of pros could improve this place dramatically. You could drop by here in the evening for a quick blowjob in the former "Slayer handjob booth" or even a good fuck. The new manager of APO View Hotel was here last Saturday night at 8:30PM and said it was full of hookers looking for men. Not a bad start.
They have even added a Karoke machine and the intent is to bring regular filipinas in as well. Not sure how they will interact wiht the pros but in Davao the pros often go where regular ladies go as men follow.
Dragon Slayer
Guys,
I will post separately on when GoodEnough and I visited O'Flangan's Pub. It was the first time we were there together since 2004. Back then it was Headquarters for the Davao Team. GE was at his absolute best and to do this right and funny, I need to be well rested. They did ask me if i was interested in purchasing the Place and my reply was, "I like my investments to make a profit". This was before I heard about the evening "guests" (hookers) dropping by.
Still no work from the infamous Brad of Davao fame. GE says he is gone for good. Again, I replied, "I don't have such god luck". I offered to make him a gentlemen's bet of a fablous bottle of wine or champagne but he declined.
I posted two photos of 23 y/o Rotchell in Davao about six months ago here. I finally met her and YES, she was worth the wait. I will post on this with nude photos of her later.
For the first time I flew in my Son, his mother and older sister (age 6). This was not an easy time as I got little sleep and no peace and quiet. GE said he really enjoyed having Daniel here and so did I but no sleep made it difficult.
The new, fine dining restaurant on the fourth floor of Marco Polo is very good. I kept getting asked to try it so I took the Family there for lunch. It is glass enclosed and the kids could see the swimming pool. Food is great. The cost was P1,300 inclusive. This Place would be great for an evening dinner with a Lady. The ambiance if excellent and the music is nice and you pretty much have the place to yourselves. With the lights on the courtyard on one side and the lights of the pool on the other it would make for a very romantic evening.
Dinner for two would run P1,300 -P2,200 and adding a bottle of wine would cost another P900 -P3,000. Still this is far less than what it costs for fine dining in ALL American cities and less than half what it would be in Hong Kong. I really like the Place and DO intend to return at night with a Lady.
I tried the new Spanish Restaurant just down the block from the Swiss Deli with GoodEnough. It is too casual and not very good. Service was poor. It does have an excellent wine cellar but little in the way of Champagnes and no California Reds at all. Plenty of fine French, Italian and Spanish wines but I would buy them for take out only. This place is just not worth dining at. I thought GE was going to "pummel" the waiter at one point as he was losing patience with the whole experience.
The Swiss Deli down the street is a much better option with the new Wine Bar. Good food here. I did not spend a lot of time inspecting the wines on my only stop here but did get a good Italian Barolo. This is a palce to bring a lady.
Someplace Else is definitely a Place to find a lady. The two waitresses are sweet and there were plenty of women sitting at tables nightly. I had a few beers here with GE last Friday night but I was in a bad move over my Cherryl's "no show" at the Hotel for the Champagne with GE and his wife. This evening needs a separate post also. The inside of Someplace Else is air conditioned ( when there with Rema the a/c was off) but ALL the ladies sit outside at tables. Want the cool air, okay, but you will end up holding your dick later.
