I have been to that club and it is disgusting. I wrote a report about it last summer. I recommended that it be avoided. There are many other clubs with good looking women in them.

The higher end clubs are on the ocean side of the city. Some are Eros, Free Night, and VIP. There are also freelancers at Aeroclube.

If that was your first trip to Salvador, TP, do not judge the city by it. It is a fairly big city and requires multiple trips to fully appreciate.

If anybody wants to have a beer or cocktail in Salvador de Bahia: let me know. Will be there from 18 of March for maybe two weeks.

I am a 39 year old German (and of course, like everybody I feel much younger), speaking a little spanish but no portugese. Have some experience from Cuba, indonesia, China and other places, but brazil will be new.

Would be nice to hear from you folks.

- Go there on a Monday.
- Rua Dom Eugênio Sales 11, Boca do Rio. About a R$ 7 taxi ride from Aerolube.
- Two streets with lots of small simple bars, barraquinhas and one major bar/restaurant. Tables everywhere on the streets with people drinking and flirting.
- Mainly lowerclass and some middleclass.
- The majority of the women are regular girls. About 20 pro´s walking up and down the street. Some of them also frequent Aeroclube. Mixed quality, including some stunners.
- Asking price: R$ 50-100. Seems like most of them are satisfied with R$ 50-70.

Hey sperto, any chance you could out out a guide on the lesser know places around Brazil? I for one would think it would be a hell of a valuable document.

If there is a posters Hall of Fame, Sperto would get voted in on the first ballot. For those of us traveling around Brazil his posts are invaluable and cover a wide range of activities. A must read on whichever forum he posts.

I too hope you can find the time to put together a guide based upon all your travels. If not, please keep posting, the information you provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am just about to leave for Salvador. Condor from Frankfurt to Salvador.

Its my first time in Salvador but I've been in Brasil 3 times before.

I will be there from 10th to 24th. Wir können uns also wahrscheinlich auf ein Bier treffen. Even though it might be that after the first week with Portuguese languague course and maybe some diving I will head for Rio, have not decided yet.

It is about $130/wk without home stay (20hrs). It has a super cute recepionist, and cute teachers (as well as Euro babes studying the language). I studied with them for a month in 2005.

They do a great job of setting up social events, etc. So you can see the city--take you to places to meet real Bahianos without getting your head blown off! They also set up drumming and cooking and capoeira lessons for super cheap (as low as $4/hr for drums when I was there).

After looking at all the different prices I decided not to go for a languague studio but to find a privat teacher. bahia-online.net was very helpful.

Now I take one-on-one classes at a very affordable price.

I am just sitting in Salvador at the Pelourinho (or at least very close) and had a great non-mongering evening. On Tuesday the Pelourinho is packed with crowds and they have lots of live music there. awesome. From what I heard on other nights it is not so safe - at least when leaving the main streets.

On Tuesday there is police everywhere even until night. Great vibes with all the people partying.

By the way - if you like diving Salvador is also a great place. Many wrecks in the sea and affordable prices for diving.

My impression is that everything is much wider spread apart compared to Rio. But that might also be because in Rio I had an apartment directly at the Copacabana. Therefore much action was just a few blocks away. And in my opinion action is much more obvious (apart from Termas where you should know the adress). At least when you are on Copacabana you must be blind not to find the hot spots.

Here it is necessary to take the bus or taxi for most rides and that also costs some time.

The first time when I tried to get to Pelourinho I took a bus to praca da se and asked the ticket guy at one point whether we already are at Pelourinho. He said yes and I got out. I wandered around and found nothing but old buildings and shops and the finally a shopping mall. (I tried to find the famous elevator like crazy) The next day after getting some more information I found out that I left way too early and was somewhere on av.7 septembre - about 5 stations before praca da se/pelourinho. This event cost me a whole afternoon.

People are very friendly here - but thats something I experienced everywhere I have been in Brazil. Thats part of why I like this country so much.

About mongering. I have been to Barra beach and was not really able to get in contact with any girls. But that might also be because my Portuguese is not so good and very rusty - just trying to polish it up with a teacher.

A short report on my first experiences here in Salvador.

First some general information as this was my biggest concern in the beginning as I had no idea where to find some clubs.

Moving away from barra on the northeastern side of the coast after about 4 kilometers there is Rio Vermelho which is one of the districts of Salvador (on the seaside). There close to the Blue Tree (one of the really large buildings) you find the fish market which is mainly an area where there are many small restaurants next to each other and you can sit outside and order fresh fish or something to drink. At night quite a few people are there. Both people hanging out and girls. Seems to be a place where they go after other places close down.

I guess about 2 kilometres farther away zou find Tche nightclub – just like all the clubs described here on the seaside – easy to find with neon lights flashing. Have not been there yet.

Then most probably another 2 kilometers away it is Free Night. They charge 40 Reals entry. When I went there there were just a few girls standing around and I was the only guest. I could have invested the money better.

About another 2 kilometers away its Eros. The place was crowded. Entry 40 Reals. I paid for 2 beers and one Smirnoff Lemon Wodka 44 Reals in addition. It seems that the first girls who try to grab your attention and grab you everywhere on the body are those that I would not like to have in my bed for free at home.

The first one reacted as if I had not said anything (like I dont want her contact) and started dancing in front of me showing me whats under her shirt (which I honestly was not interested in). Took some time for her to understand.

The next one was nice to talk to (just only Portuguese – the course paid) but had too much weight around her hips and breasts to be of any interest for me. So after some time with really nice girls doing striptease I decided that I am really tired and wand to sleep alone.

Then there is aeroclube. Another few kilometers on the seaside. There are also some buses going there directly and others (to Itapua for example) pass there. Costs for the bus are around 2 Reals so it is much cheaper than a taxi and does not take much longer.

There you have a restaurant zone with a roof above and all the tabbles in the center of the court. Girls are sitting around and can easily be targeted. I was there twice – once I thought that there is Rock in Rio but I picked the wrong date. When I left I was approached by a woman who is definitely not in my target group. As I did not get rid of her in a polite way I told her that I am just about to leave and go home alone. She handed me her telephone number (which I did not ask for) and guided me to a taxi and arranged a good price for me. Before leaving she kissed me and I hoped she would not start putting her tongue out. She really was to big for me – I do not know which one of us shows the higher weight. She was nice but I definitely would not get involved with her at home for free.

Seems that you really have to learn here fast how to send women away. I had to make the same experience in Rio in Help and Termas. And it took some time for me to get used to that there, too. But for some time I really has problems going to a place and the first thing that happens is that the women that you did not want to get involved with last time approaches you very fast. That is why I guess I will not go to Aeroclube and Eros in the next days (even though in general they are ok).

On the other side of the street of Aeroclube you can find VIP which I have not been to.

Further away I think that in Itapua there are also some girls around. I was there one early evening and had the feeling that they come out at about 8 and are around the place on the seaside where the Porto12 restaurant is. But that is just an impression which I have not verified.

Thanks for these great information. My start in salvador was not as positive at yours. While doing my first round arround the block I was rubbed yesterday night. Unfortunately the guy wounded my right hand with an empty bottle, so the first persons I talked with have been the doctors and nurses in hospital.

I will give a complete message more later.

So if you still want to meet for a beer. Or anybody eles who is reading this. Give me a note about aplace and time. I have a appartement in barra close to the lighthouse. Hope to hear from you.

Before sending a full report, two informations first:

1.) Casquirha da siri (or however it is written) is definatly closed. locals told me that this was done by authorotys cause of prostitution.

2.) Avoid aeroclub onmondaz nights. i have been there, met a really nice guy from germany and for that it was okay. but for all other reasons monday is nothing. a band was playing and some people arround 55 up where dancing. thats it. 4 or 5 professionals were walking arround, and arround 11.30pm the whole place was closed. i will give it a new chance arround weekend.

3.) On the way home it seems that the most crowded place was the cafe near the porto de barra, but i only passed by car. about midnight maybe 30 or 40 people have been seen, boys and girls, no idea if something to find there.
