Then versus now
Back in Bangkok after 1 year. The new airport is a bit further and a bit more expensive to take a taxi to Sukhumvit soi 4. There's less taxi rip off artists but still there, otherwise very similair to the old airport style regarding customs and so forth.
My plane landed at 1 am, got to the hotel at 2am. Walked around a bit and my first impression was how quiet the street was. Certainly in comparison to my first trip here 6 years ago. I've been back since the earlier bar closing times but there were still crowds of people in the streets and drinks were still readily available. Even Angels disco was closed by 2am which was a bit surprising. The Nana bar inside the hotel was still serving under the table, low key, and the football (soccer) game was televised but not a big scene by any means. There was a descent amount of girls in the Nana parking lot but certainly less than I remember on previous visits. And although there was still a food court of sorts that still exists along Sukhumvit, it too seemed less crowded than previous years. None of this is a huge deal, just an adjustment but thought it was note worthy. I am curious though if there is a later scene still going on somewhere with good action. I know patpong is open later but I don't really care for that area.
The tuk tuk drivers tried to sell me on a bar open all night, I made that mistake my first time. I was taken to a bar that was attempting to look closed, somewhat an underground scene and had some girls in a fishbowl type set up. Everything was fine until I got my bill. Usual story, padded bill, the tuk tuk driver drank on my tab and the drinks were overly expensive on the ridiculous side. This bar was off the beaten track and when I argued the bill, let's just say the mood got a bit uncomfortable and I realized I should just pay and get out with a lesson learned. Don't trust tuk tuk drivers and stick to better known bars where the doors don't lock behind you.
This is just the beginning of my trip and without a doubt will only improve, I just hope that things don't continue to tighten up in the LOS.

Flood situation
Having lived in Thailand for a number of year many years ago I recall during the rainy season in September and October the streets flooded everywhere. Can someone report on the situation currently? Is the flooding under control these days in the October time frame? My tour is scheduled to arrive Oct 3rd so I am a bit concerned.

It's not so bad Vinny. I have exprience with BKK and Hua Hin the last 6-8 years. I don't se it as a daily problem.
But anyway, 60 mio. live with it and they still smile. So I think you have a fair chance to survive.

BKK flooding gets worse every year as more and more klongs get filled in for high rise buildings. Klongs were narture's way of diverting water to the Gulf of Thailand. Now that they no longer exist water seeks the lowest level which is the street. Not to mention that Bangkok is slowly sinking and the oceans are rising.
If you ever wonder why the MRT entrances are so high it's because they are built one meter higher than the highest recorded flood level. But, the good thing about BKK is the floods are short lived.

Driving in Thailand
This is not bullshit. Driving any motor vehicle in an urban Thai setting is dangerous, esp. If you are used to driving defensively and sanely. Offensive driving is the way here. Good luck and wear a helmet if you must drive a moto.
Driving on the wrong side of the road means literally that. Thais are supposed to drive on the left, but many, many moto drivers drive on the right, going the wrong way against traffic, on the footpaths, without helmets, passing on blind curves, etc. It seems a rite of masculine affirmation for many youths to drive as badly and carelessly as they possibly can.
The point is: you can't be stupid and drive in Thailand. This means Driving while under the influence, while getting a blow job, riding a motorcycle without a helmet, etc. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a motorbike in Thailand. I found it the best way to get around Bangkok when the traffic was stand still. I had one for years and went all over the city. Sure it was a Honda Wave with a basket and step through frame in case I wanted to wear a skirt. But what the hell! Fifty Baht worth of gas a week and I could go almost anywhere I wanted, when I wanted. You just have to watch out for all the crazies and expect them to do the unexpected.
As for driver's licenses. is there still the requirement that you have to have a residence visa to obtain one? When I got mine I hired some guy to get my license for me, register my bike and do all the other stuff. Cost 800 THB if I remember correctly. This was about five years ago and a lot of brain cells have died since then.

T8,
it probably depends on where you got your driving experience and which countries you have been before.
From an Indian traffic base, Thai traffic is just as relaxing as US traffic is for a south Italian. You should be aware that high concentration is required to manage the traffic, respectively the unexpected. Never with Alc is my rule. Also better dont have discussions etc. I prefer the Taxi then. I am living in Seoul and I would rate Seoul traffic similar to Thai, but 'better' then India.
Usually you would adopt pretty quick to the local rules, as you would not gain any ground, respectively blocking the traffic and be in even higher risk if you wouldn't act more 'selfish'.
Simple rule to adopt: Be selfish and (more (!) or less) forget the rear mirror. Any view to the rear mirror and you loose track on whatching out what unexpected happens in front of you.
The most difficult is to re-adopt when coming back home.
Heard Teheran could have the worst traffic, but coldn't check myself yet.
I don't care and I am not scared, but I was driving in a lot of countries already. So no issue. But if you are scared, then better don't drive, as you will not manage.

May Days in LOS...
Got back to Bangkok after 3 months and though many things were planned to a meticulous detail, things changed as opportunities presented itself. I am into my 6th day and three more to go.
Because of this website I am having a whale of a time. I staying at the Majestic Suites and enjoying their great "girl-friendly" service. As they say in business it is. "location and location, stupid" it is the ideal affordable plae around. The gym pass to Majestic Grande is just perfect.
What a difference from the good old US back home. The cost is very affordable and service great (if you are lucky).
I am a "music" loving guy. That includes live as well as recorded 70-80 era disco type music. Have taken in and have enjoyed many things that I cherish, all within a short spell. Examples are: Angel Disco in Nana Hotel; Radio City in Pat Pong; 7-day (? ) bar along Sukumvit, Soi 7; Saxophone Pub at Victory Monument; visit to China Town; Night Bazaar) Soince I have seen other gems such as, Wat Po; the Grand Palace; Jim Thompson’s House; Suan Pakaard Palace etc. I was not keen in seeing places this time.
The Saxophone Pub is at 3/8 Victory Monu, ent and it is just next to Victory Monument BTS Station. It is open from 9:30 till late.
Went in search of Brown Sugar (Jazz club), but was that impressed.
Other activities such MP, take outs ST and LT etc. Are continuing.
One incident stands out. A girl I met in Nana was coughing and was on some cough medication. On top of that, she also took in a few drinks at Angel Disco. Then all hell broke loose. She became disoriented and thanks to many people on that day it was smoothly handled. First of all, I had help from my buddy, who was also there. Then my girl also had a friend and we all shared a table. So, we were able to physically escort the disoriented girl to the my hotel and then to a taxi. Very next day she was just fine was sorry. Sorry. Sorry.
Has anybody have this type of experience? Any way, this situation was again handled beautifully by Majestic staff.
Believe it or not, I also met Gitto at Angel Studio and said Hi.
I am going to be staying at MS till Tuesday, any fellow mongers look for me. It is easy to spot me. I am the "Indian looking guy".
Cheers and good hunting.
Sidney

I'm scared, I won't.
"I don't care and I am not scared, but I was driving in a lot of countries already. So no issue. But if you are scared, then better don't drive, as you will not manage."
I think you are right. I couldn't manage if I tried.
I am not even gonna try to drive in BKK.
With taxis and skytrain I can get around ok.
I don't have the experience to drive in BKK traffic, don't mind admitting it.

For Long Time visits will the TG be willing to stay up all night & fool around? Or want to sleep after a few hours? Will she leave at any time if i ask her? Could it be a problem for her to transport to her residence at any hour of the night?
For Long Time visits with a TG, if i am expecting her to stay and make me happy for 12 hours and she leaves after 6 hours is it going to be a problem if i pay her half {50%} of what I would have for the 12 hours?

Farang drivers, remember that the Thai cops are definitely not your friends. Try not to get involved in an accident or traffic stop, as you will suffer for it. IMHO, driving in Thailand is inviting unnecessary trouble, and possibly disaster. That said, one of my longtime farang friends drives his moto in Bangkok every day. No wonder he arrives in an awful mood, cursing at the idiotic drivers he must deal with constantly. Rather him than me. Thank god for skytrain and subway.

Bangkok Gold Escorts
Anyone familiar with Bangkok Gold Escorts? I have only used an escort service once in BKK, when I arrived at 2:30am in the morning and was too tired to hunt at that time. I came across their website and I must say, some of the girls look very tempting. Pricey, though, at 6,000 baht for a 2 hour session.
This could be a scam, or the photo's so touched up, that when the girls arrive they may look no better than a soapie or go-go girl. I thought I would ask anyway. Always on the prowl for something new.

Rodmanj had a review a few months ago, and seems he had a great time, but the review also seems to indicate that the photos are not real. I know there's an escorts thread, but it get's so little activity. Generally, if the pictures are too good to be true or too professionally done, it's a fake. It never hurts to ask, though. LOL!

Pat Pong Ding Dong Ring
I got my ding dong rung at Pat Pong the other day. It cost me 1000 Baht for a half hour in her room. I got an around-the-world, some deep prostate massage, and a "hello joe" like i haven't had since the 70s. All in all it was worth it,from a sweet girl.
I do not recommend long-time as the girls are tiresome after a couple of hours (who isn't, regardless of gender?)...I don't really recommend bringing girls back to one's own room.
By "tiresome after a couple of hours" are you saying they get bitchy? If so then I may not know when they get like that since their talk would be all Greek to me; I do not know one word of Thai & don't plan on learning any. BTW I see the language barrier as one of the big benefits of coming to LOS, since for me it is often tiresome and or a distraction to have to listen to a lady talk during a sex-date. As it has been said, God gave men two heads but only enough blood to run one at a time, so please don't try to engage my brain in the middle of a BJ, HJ, or vaginal intercourse. This will cause me to lose erection, & consequently pleasure, & then I will get bitchy.
But getting back to the subject of her bitchiness, from what I have read Thai girls do not have a reputation for having a bad attitude, but compared to the West rather a willingness to please. Bitchiness would not enhance their chances of repeat business with me, let alone special treatment such as being contracted for the week or month, or becoming like an offshore GF whenever I visit LOS. In fact if a girl agreed to show me a good time for a Long Time {LT}, then broke that contact by being bitchy or unwilling to do what we had agreed to beforehand, then I would feel free to dismiss her with a prorated payment.
In Canada I have a gorgeous lady who will lick my balls non stop for 3 hours {$80/hr CDN} & I would hope for similar treatment and more from an Asian LT lady, as I have read that in LOS one can have a lady LT for 12 hours for $50 CDN. If that is the case, then I would divide the 12 hrs between cuddling, massage, DK, BLS, HJs, BJs & FS, depending on my mood & how energenetic I am. For an example, 4 hours cuddling &/or massage, 1 hour DK, 2 hours HJ, 2 hours BLS, 1 hours BJ, 1 hours FS, and an hour break to snack & shower, etc. Is this possible in LOS or should I be looking elsewhere in Asia, or just save the airfare/hotel costs & stay home? If Thailand is worth it I would visit regularly and may even retire there.
P.S. Why not bring the girls "to one's own room"? I would have thought that a no brainer to a bargain hunter such as yourself.

Escorts
AT2
OK, insert usual comment about the ridiculousness of using escorts in BKK here ___________________.
Ok, now that that's out of the way.......I thought I'd go ahead and do it before someone else did. Now we can actually get to discussing your question.
No, I have never used an escort in BKK, and I have always assumed they're scams. But your question got me thinking.
I'm trying to think about the business model for a service like that in a market like BKK. The conventional wisdom would be that there's so much action in so many venues that you would have to focus on guys who are so inexperienced and afraid to venture out that they're not a viable sustainable market. There's no real repeat visiting business because anyone doing that much purchasing is going to become a better consumer and not use you. There's no real indigenous market because the action is so available and open that your service isn't required.
So that leads me to believe they would focus on scamming them out of money. Which is what we've all assumed (and heard anecdotally). So that leads us back to where we started.
But then I wondered if there's a market out there that we're not considering, and that we don't see openly; is there a market in BKK for high end girls for customers who can afford them, but can't venture into the usual places socially or comfortably? There are a lot of affluent businessmen who travel to BKK and who would be interested in tasting the local delicacies, but aren't regular consumers (mongers). That market would be demanding, and you wouldn't be ripping them off. They'd be good customers. The issue is whether there's enough of them out there to sustain a legitimate provider. Whether there's someone serving them.
And how to differentiate this provider from the rip off escort companies.
There are a lot of businessmen who are used to using escort agencies in their home towns and wherever they travel. They would probably be more comfortable using one in BKK too, and those guys wouldn't be comfortable in Patpong or Nana. I'm getting a kick out of just thinking about some of the guys I know trying to go to Nana and pick up a bargirl (you talk about a fish out of water). LOL
I'm always looking for value. But I'm willing to pay for quality too. I'd be interested in knowing if there was a quality provider of stunners out there. I'd try them once or twice.
Let us know what you eventually find AT2.
