I am new here and I have a pertinent question. I am going to CTG in 2 weeks (for 6 day stay) and would strongly prefer to stay in a hotel as it is my first time in Colombia and my Spanish is very basic (I have been to PTY, CR, DR and Amst before so I am not a complete novice).

Can anyone recommend a decent "guest friendly" hotel under $120 per night preferably in a walking distance from LDV. I have looked at Dann as it was mentioned somewhere as chica friendly, but the information is very dated and I am not sure still valid.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. A full report upon return at the end of the month (with pictures) will be supplied by me.

This is located about a 5 minute walk from LDV in a two year old building (Mirador del Laquito). I never had problems with guests.

I just do not see the need to spend $ for a hotel room that is cramped when you can live it up very well in an apartment. You can contact Mery Salence at [email]oficernaatyahoo.com[/email] for details. There are other options available also. Mery speaks English.

There are many other apartments mentioned here previously. I have rented apartments from Juan Ventura also. I like the Mirador del Laquito, but the Playa Mar is also good. But like I said there are many options based upon your taste. Be sure to ask for one with a pool.

A full report upon return at the end of the month (with pictures) will be supplied by me.[/QUOTE]My friend take it from a multiple time visitor and rent an apartment from Juan Ventura.They are fully furnished and nice,All you need is to buy some chow and you are set.For 80 US a nite you can have a nice luxury apt with all the guests you like as long as they register.There is a reason no one uses the Hotels in the Laguito/Boca grande tourist area,,,apts are much nicer and cheaper.The Hilton starts at 200 a nite and IMHO is no way as much fun or nice as an apt in Playa Mar.My 2 cents...anyhow good luck!

1) I heard that area gets a lot of rain in October so I am thinking of switching my trip to November, which has about half as much rain as October, at least in the Santa Marta area (am I spelling it right? ), which is north of Cartagena. I guess Cartagena has similar weather as Santa Marta. I would not want to be in a beach resort area like Cartagena when it rains a lot. Any info about the weather?

2) From what I am reading on this site the cheapest decent apartment or hotel room would cost at least $80 US per nite in Cartagena. Is this true? I usually don't like to go over US $50 per nite when I travel. I don't need luxury, but I don't want to stay in a dump though. Anything decent in Cartagena for under $80?

The beauty pageant and other local events make this particular time specially crowded and, therefore, expensive (and also full of GORGEOUS nonpros and semipros from other cities coming to party hard for a couple of weeks.)

If you're definitely mindful of how much you spend, November isn't a good month for hitting this spot.

Nevertheless - I looked at various hotels and settled on Dann Hotel, which is located in the middle of the action in Laguito. I had a friend who speaks fluent Spanish to call them direct. They quoted him "Gringo" price of $325 (!) per night. My friend countered that they have a special posted on the Spanish version of their web site of 110k pesos per night. They said that it is for double occupancy and offered "another room" for 190k pesos per night. Breakfast included, but no ocean view and the Internet is $12 per day extra. They promised to e-mail me confirmation, but nothing arrived in 24 hours. No problem with me - it was expected no less - it is Latin America after all, so I'll call them back myself to confirm. I read somewhere that Dann is guest friendly, if anyone can confirm this, it will be highly appreciated.

I understand that most visitors opt for an apartment, but I found this thread to be lacking any good reviews of a hotel stay (I read about 20-30 pages back and found only passerby references to Hilton without any indication if it is indeed allows for hassle-free guests).

I recommend this Hotel. My buddy and I stayed there.

It is only a few more blocks away from LDV, on the main street across from the beach. Friendly staff and should not have any problem bringing in a guest. There is a Love Motel a few doors down, if there is a problem.
