No offense Bob, but you get what you pay for. If you're paying $50 a night for a two bedroom apt. You're going to get a dump. You're going to be lucky to get A/C that works. Admittedly, with one exception, Mery does have some crappy apartments in Torre Centauro. I stayed in one the first time I visited Cartagena and it was cheap and it sucked. On future trips I told her I wanted something nicer and was willing to pay more, and she always delivered, at prices a little lower than Juan's. I've stayed in a couple of very nice places that she rented at very reasonable prices ($70 to $100). If you committed to 14 days, then that's potentially 14 days that she couldn't rent to someone else. So lets talk about what is a nice apartment. Juan has 3 very nice apartments that I know about. They are better, BY FAR, than anything Merry is renting for 50 bucks. He might have more but these are the 3 best I know about.

Apt #1 is in the building Juan lives in. I think it is called Miridor del Laguito. I am not sure of the spelling. It is 2 stories on the top floor. You can rent either the top of the bottom as there are separate entrances. I think it is about $100 a floor but I am not sure. This building is about 2 years old so everything is modern. Nice big new beds, modern kitchen, fast Internet, etc. Everything you need it has got, you do not feel like you left home. It is perfect for 2 guys who do not really want to see each other.

Apt #2 is the one I was talking about in the last post. This is in Lago. Ok. I almost did not want to tell anyone about this place. It is $130 a night for two guys. Each room has LCD TVs, there are brand new modern floors, NICE, and I mean NICE bathrooms where you can have a shit without feeling dirty like I did with Merry's apartment. I mean, fuck, Merry's place smelled so bad I was embarrassed to have hookers there! Imagine that! Ya, again, asswipe, YOU FUCKED UP MY VACATION! When in this apartment you feel happy. You feel clean. And the pool is great. You do not feel for one second you are in the 3rd world.

Apt #3 is the penthouse in Playa Mar. If you got 3 guys then this is the place to be. It is the best apartment in Laguito. They ask $350 a night but if you are a repeat customer like me it is only $300. So that is $100 a guy which is well worth it. The place was just remodeled again a month ago. Brand new floors, the loudest stereo in Colombia, there are LCDs in every room now,. All kinds of new shit. Me an my buddy were going to take it again but it was rented out so we would have only got one night and had to move. The smaller place in Lago is pretty much as nice as the penthouse so if you got two guys go with Lago but if you want extreme "Playboy Party Place"then go with the penthouse.

Oh, almost forgot, there is an imported Hot Tub on the terrace! One night I was up there with 4 girls in that Hot Tub listening to tunes (ya outdoor speakers) drinking my Walker BLUE (do you assholes even know what that is? ) I was listening to Jimmy sing me a song. All the girls were from LDV so it was probably 300 bucks for them. And the little one slid her body on mine and started fucking me right there in the Hot Tub without condom while the others kissed me. I was like "does it get better than this? " Really think about this, there I am, 4 girls, Mr Walker, Jimmy singing and the stars in the sky. Does it get better? I think most of you beatches will never understand this question? i rented unit 504 in "mirador del laguito" from her on the weekend across the 6th, 7th, 8th & 9th. thge place was awesome. an efficiency with great ac, high-speed, large flat sceen tv, hot water, kitchen. all of it clean, clean, clean. she charged me $60 per night.

I have taken an apartment at Laguito. (Not the high priced heavily advertised one's as I wanted to see what it was like on the ground first!).

LDV was good, many pussies few dicks. Also the old town square had several discos, none of them that good. Went to pleyboy one time, was a bit disappointed with sausage fest.

Used to be a couple of casas, rosarios and a couple of others one out by the oil refinery - whats still going, and whats the rates?

I just returned six weeks ago from my first trip to Cartagena and rented an apartment from Mery and it was perfectly fine. On five different boards I have never heard anyone speak ill of her.

It is my understanding that Mery does not own these apartments. They are owned by private individuals, and Mery simply schedules the pertinent dates and accepts payment on behalf of the owner. Once payment is made she has no control over refunding money if a renter fails to do their homework and ends up in an apartment they don't like. Nor does she have control over the condition of the apartments. It is the owners responsibility to maintain the apartments appearance and the renters responsibility to determine in a given apartment meets their indivudal standards of comfort prior to making payment.

Your tone and tenor is remenicent of the angry, immature high school age kids I deal with in my work. Kids who need an attitude adjustment. I suggest that if you choose to return to Colombia that you leave the attitude behind.

If you have reason to feel phucked or slighted by a resident Colombiano and use the same threatening tone with them, you may just return from your trip in a pine box as oppossed to the comforts of a 1st class airline seat.

I'd point out that that Mery rents nice apartments in both Mirador de Laguito and Playa Mar, the two buildings you rave about in your post. She also has or at least used to have one nice place in Torre Centauro.- the rest in that building admittedly are shit.

When people take the time to share their experiences here, you shouldn't threaten to kick their asses because you disagree or had a different experience.

You're blasting mongers here that try to save a buck, and you say that you don't care if you spend $500 a day while you're on vacation. But how much did you lose on your deposit? You stayed there two or three days, so I guess $350 or $400. Again, what do you expect? If you pay $50/night for a two bedroom apartment, you're lucky to get A/C. If you'd posted something on here beforehand asking about a $50 apt at Torre Centauro and stating you're not a budget monger, you probably would have gotten warned.

Sr. Lengua's assessment is spot on IMHO. Mery hasn't gotten many bad reports from renters. Landlords, well, that's a different story. But most of us here are renters, not apartment owners.

I can't rember exactly how much I paid, but I think it was $50 a night in Playa Mar. I belive merry lived in the building next door. Not exactly sure about all the details because it was 2 years ago when I was a rookie and went to Cartegena, but the apartment was very nice had a black leather sofa, balcony, tv, and nice bedroom. Anyway Merry was nice and helpfull.

However, I do understand that problems will arise from time to time, and you experence may be different from mine. I would however definately go with Merry again since I had a good experience with her.

While staying at Playa Mar on my recent trip I had a pleasant conversation with both Mery and Juan at the time. I saw no indication of animosity or competition between the two. They both appeared to be functioning quite well doing their own individual gigs.
