IMHO, he is doing a lot more to help mongering than hurt it. As for "beating" the cabbie out of a few dollars- he was combating rampant gringo taxing. The taxi ride should have likely been $1. 50 or so, if the thieving taxista gets $6 a few times then his rip-off rate for US guys goes to $8, better to put these thieves in their place early and often in terms of blatant overcharging. Same thing goes for a lot of the girls- over the last 8 years prices have gone way up and attitude and service have gone way down. Treating them like princess primadonnas and paying whatever they ask and many times tipping on top of it is a lot of what has caused both those dynamics.

Well, either way he was inflating the price. What that one guy thinks 3 AM has to do with it is not clear to me since that should be a lower price since there is no traffic and therefore it will be quicker. I don´t like places with non-metered taxis but I use taxis so seldom it's not a big issue. Hey everyone, long time lurker and mongerer here. I've been to most of the big mongering spots in the city (GT, Carribean, Royal Elegance, Veneto, Habanos.) , and I was wondering if anyone knows any good alternatives in the city. I know there's a couple spots in Casco Viejo I still have to check out, but what about other places in the Ave Central area? Nothing so seedy that I'll be robbed and shot, but maybe just lesser known places good for a decent BJ. I've got a car but not really interested in heading out into the jungle, so in city areas only please. For those who don't know, this place is just off Tumba Muerto, in the same shopping center / parking lot as a Super 99, left side of the road if driving away from the city.
