Let me see if I have this right. A guy brings a Thai WG to his hotel room for sex in exchange for an agreed upon sum of money. He falls asleep and wakes up later to discover that she has stolen his cheap necklace and snuck off without asking for her money, apparently under the mistaken assumption that the property was gold worth much more than her fee. I recently had the bitter misfortune to be up at 10:00 AM in the Capital - a first for me. Yes, your dear Opebo has been forced to accept the humiliation of paid employment. Facing the necessity of an 11:00 AM meeting with some Thai 'colleagues', I thought to myself 'what will make this less awful'. The answer dawned redily in my fertile brain - smelling of the vaginal juices of an inexpensive prostitute!

I betook myself to Sookhumvit via taxicab (it is now officially too hot during the day to even consider any other mode - though carsickness is a drawback). There I found a few morning streetwalkers in the sois 5 to 7 region. The first two were tantamount to homeless ladies, so I passed. There are other distinctions and advantages you are overlooking such as in Bangkok no one will care or give a second look at what you're doing regardless of the time of day. The other and most important advantage to me is the fact that some Cop will not pull you over and make try to make a criminal case out of a relatively innocuous transaction, put your picture in the papers or on TV like you just committed a major felony.

Rising prices are nothing compared to the relative ease, eclectic availability and harassment-free environment in which one can engage in mongering in BKK as compared to many other places where your life can be turned upside down by hypocritical oppressors.

Well summed up.... If she hadn't of stole it who is to say she wouldn't get paid the proper amount, for stealing she has got what she deserves.

Since when is leaving your own fake gold necklase on a table in your own hotel room "deceiving"? He's not offered it to her. He's not told her that it's gold. He's just put it on his own table perhaps with the change in his pocket and other "valuable" items. That's deceiving? How? How is what he did "fucking her."

Your story about a punter getting the shit kicked out of him is scary, but that kind of thing can happen for any number of reasons -- certainly not for leaving a necklace out on the table and falling to sleep though. If that is the case, then we're all in danger with these girls. Just left the fake gold necklace on the table? He made it clear why he left the necklace. It was there as bait. When two people screw each other (the girl a thief and the guy the con man), someone get's hurt. Sometimes very badly. I follow the UAE thread, among others. it is the norm to pay in advance, and at least once a week, someone posts that he agreed to LT with a girl, paid the money in advance, only to find the girl getting dressed at 2.00 AM to go home. We lament the situation. In LOS, we pay after the deed is done, and many times, we pay after breakfast. We can do that if we are honest with our guest, and she is honest with us. There are of course, always a few bad apples, and the poster's friend, whom this discussion is about, is one of them.

It seems like everyone arguing in favor of leaving the necklaces is saying about the same thing -- that it's not dishonest. That it's not deceptive. Examples are being given (what if you leave your car by the curb with the keys in it, etc.)

Fair enough. If the situation came to a point where it was being looked at objectively, for example in a courtroom, then the key question, the bottom line, what the whole thing boils down to, would be "what was his intent?"

If his intent was that it was an accident, he forgot to put them away, then there was no intent to do anything wrong -- then he's innocent. He's honest, then.

If his intent was to lure the girl into taking it as bait, then his intent was to deceive, and get out of paying the fee he agreed to.

Now about scaremongering. I think if you scroll back through this thread, and in the Pattaya thread, you'll see that it's obviously not a myth. It happens, and the Thais are pretty nasty in an attack. It's not going to happen in your hotel, it'll happen when you go out on the street. Day 3?

Well, most of my time was spent at Livingstones Lodge, however my new friend PIT decided to take myself and my newbie comrades out on a little adventure. We finished up yet another good Thai dinner, hoped in 2 cabs (due to my wheelchair) and over drove the couple blocks over to the famed Soi Cowboy. It was a smaller street than I had thought, but what a site. Almost immediately the woman smelled fresh meat and attempted to solicit me. Big Vig ran to the other side of the Soi to find PIT while my large companion waited with me and tried to keep the chicks away long enough for us to meet up. You have to understand, that I’m easy as hell and will take almost the first girl that shows interest in me. In addition, I have the letters ATM stamped on my head and my friend knows it. He’s more of a body guard than anything else. For the sake of this report, I’ll dub him BG. Clever, huh.

At any rate, we meet up with PIT & Big Vig and headed over to Long Gun to take in a show. We got there just in time to see the girls puffin’ on some cigarettes and blowing smoke. I’ve seen it before and it still makes me laugh. They then blow out candles and some other silly tricks. Mean while I sent my Guard/buddy to find some cash. He came back just in time to see the chicks pop balloons with blow-darts. That was impressive. During the last of the show we finished up our drink as my buddy told us of some "trouble" he encountered at the ATM. As he was trying to make a withdraw some guy was standing too close and kept asking him something in Thai. Most likely the little guy was asking for change. However, he was leaning too close for my friend’s comfort as he entered the PIN. BG told him in an ineffectual manner to F-Off (he’s not one for subtlety). It finally end in a one finger poke to the guys sternum to move him on. If you saw BG’s arms, a one finger poke to someone 5’6" is pretty powerful. The guy stammered back a couple feet off balanced he said and was off. At a latter time I warned BG that type of action could have resulted very poor for him despite his size and strength. From what I understand and heard Thais’ operate on a different level and really don’t believe in the "mono y mono" fights. Please, correct me if I’m wrong.

Once the show was over and BG completed his story we ventured down to Cowboy 2 (I think). We were ushered in quickly and I was given a front row seat at the stage. A perfect view for myself. Normally, I’ve got a great view of the girls as I sit about 3’6" and can see everything. At the stage I’m looking straight to the moon and stars. I think PIT was a bit jealous;.). As we sat there PIT was showing me the ropes and noticed me eyeing this one girl. He asked if I liked her and upon my affirmation, he waived her over. She looked really nice. I saw another good looker as well and PIT called her over too. As we talked, she and I, she suggested that I take her friend out too. I looked at PIT with wide eyes and he said go for it man. Big Vig and PIT stayed to look around some more. BTW, PIT thanks again for the loan. Note, if you have a Master Card/Cirrus card, find an ATM before you hit up Soi Cowboy. BG couldn’t find one that took my card.

We pilled into the cab and went back to the lodge. I think BG took Big Vig’s room and I took my girls back to mine. I for the life of me can’t remember there names. There was the older one and then the younger one with a big rack. As soon as we got to the room, they wanted to eat. Room service was over so I sent the young one out to get food while the older chick washed me up. I think in hindsight Eden might be better for 2 girl action as all they did was take shifts. Older than younger then I hit the older one again. I was pretty tired and not too thrilled with the younger girl’s performance so I opted to let them go upon there request/nagging. I just wanted to sleep at that point.

There's a third, compromise option: it's not really deceptive or we can suspend judgment about whether it's deceptive. What matters is that it might be perceived as deceptive (note: no normative claim here!).
