Some more information on Salvador
Some more information on Salvador in addition to my previous posting.
Casquirha da siri is called Santissima Bahia. It is located on the mainstreet along the beach alreadz very close to Itapua. (Coming from Barra passing Rio Vermelho, Tche Night Club, Night Flight, Eros, Aeroclube and driving some more 10 minutes by taxi.) To get an idea: Coming from Santissima going to Aeroclube at night I paid 18 Reals.
I was there, paid 15 Reals cover for the table and in total about 45 Reals for a Whiskey Cola with two Cola and a 8 year old Havana Whiskey.
There was a great live band playing, many people dancing and having a great times. But there were no single women. A few single men, though. To me it seems, that this is a nice family entertainment bar but not of any interest (anymore) in terms of mongering.
Data according to the Flyer:
Av. Octavio Mangabeira, Praia de Coqueiros – Piata
CEP: 41.839-050 – Salvaldor – Bahia – Brasil

After that I went to Aeroclube where they had Rock in Rio – Forro. Entrance 15 Reals. When I arrived (close to Midnight) there were no girls in the part where they have the restaurants. Inside it was quite crowded. After some time a great live band. Had some flirting eye contact with girls but they were not what I was looking for. At about 2 a.m. it started to get emptier.
I suppose if you are in the right mood it is a good place to get to know some girls.
Some more general information about taxis: There are 2 tarifas. 1 is from 06-21 and 2 is from 21-06, Saturday afternoon, Sunday, on holidays and also during the day when there are more than 2 people in the cab. Taxis are white with tricolore blue white red.
It happened to me twice that the wrong tarifa was activated. I told the guy and he immediately said desculpe and told me I will have to pay less than shown on the meter.
At night in front of the bars they often will not start the meter and agree on a price upfront (which most probably is more than with a meter). In my opinion important to know but nothing I would make a big deal of as the amounts we are talking about are not sooo much.
Buses: At day everywhere but you need to find out which bus goes to what place. About 2 Reals (Executivo –better equipped- about 4 Reals).
Safety: keep your valuables at home. When I was jogging at the beach I had my mp3 player and headphones with me. A boy on a bicycle passed by and grabbed the cord of my headphone. My first reaction (and I am not sure whether in retrospect and terms of safety a wise one) was to turn and rush after him which made him drop the headphones. My mp3 was on a band so I was lucky that he did not get that.
You should always be aware that it is a poor country, that Bahia has the highest rate of analphabetism in Brasil and therefore your money and valuables are a good and easy way to earn money.
Furthermore children below 18 can not be thrown into prison – so especially youngsters can do a lot of things without having to fear real consequences. At least that is what I was told.
Don’t get too upset if something happens to you (as long as you are not hurt) – that is something you should take into consideration when going to Brazil.
