I think one factor not discussed often enough is age, likely because most posters on here are of the older variety. Myself and few friends are heading over to Bangkok and then Phucket end of October and staying 5 days in each. We are flying in to Suvarnabhumi Airport. For Phuket we want to stay near Pattong Beach. So any recommendations as well would be fab.

That's the facts, Jack, but there are still plenty of bars around on lower Silom near the hotel and you can always try your luck while quenching your thirst.
