PSA: A Requiem for a Once Great Monger Destination
Just got back from a week in the Su. For context, I've been going down there & other spots in the DR since GWB's 2nd term! In recent years I only hit the Su once a year for a quick change of pace trip from my go-to destination, RdJ (I love my Afro-Latinas! I booked this last trip to POP before reading about all the nonsense that went down in July. But even after learning what happened, given how well I know that country & town I bet that after 3 months the govt would've smartened up & things would be at least close to normal. Sadly, I lost that bet.
What I saw in the Su, starting on a holiday weekend no less, was mind-boggling! It's gotten to the point where the toy soldiers (Pol. Mil.) are posted on each corner of the strip & make looping patrols by car from PC to Rosen to A. Martinez & back. But the thing is that there aren't any women for them to chase, harass, detain, etc. ! The other OG Su guys remember when the Politur started harassing chicas on the strip back in 2010 in the govt's 1st attempt to 'clean' the town up. Over the years the Politur BS shrunk the area where & timeframe when the Su action takes place. But now the govt has really upped the ante be / see they are virtually no chicas walking the streets, even though male (primarily Americans) tourists are still out there lookin for talent!
After so many trips and good memories, this was my last trip to the Su. The way I judge a monger destination is how easily I can session with as many high quality (looks & service) providers as possible. Even with the Politur patrols, the Su continued to meet my standard because every day you could find dozens to 100+ females around town from sunset to sunrise. Now it's way too much of a grind to find talent down there! At best you might occasionally spot a group of 2-5 chicas out in public, but they'll quickly disappear like a mirage in the desert! Baileys has the only sizeable collection of talent now, but that setup sucks for me be / see the chicas are all seated at tables, occasionally walking around. I need to see T+A in motion to evaluate the talent! Other than that, there are a few other spots around town (Bar Central, Tiki Wiki, Rumba-Kings, Casa Coco, etc.) where you'll find a handful (at best) of females hanging out. These places are generally better than Baileys be / see the women tend to move around more and you can look in from the street. However, the numbers are just pathetic!
And the biggest problem w / what's left of the Su scene is that the quality of the chicas is at an all-time low! From the first night I went outside, a Saturday, it was crystal clear that there are hardly any high end chicas in the Su anymore. If you look around every corner and under every rock you can find some decent options, but it takes a lot of time & effort. On the plus side, it's a complete buyers' market now, so negotiations are a breeze. They quote low & accept any reasonable counter! BTW, I have to point out how lame a few venues are. Blue Ice is a complete jokes as on any given night 75+% of the females inside are the hostesses working there & they're not available. And the new casino by beach is small AF and mostly caters towards locals. You'll only find 1-3 working chicas there max. And to hammer home how whack things are down there now, I constantly got pulled up on by females in vehicles. Some straight up Bizarro shit! The contrast from my last trip down there a year ago is shocking and sad.
Bottom line: The govt is sending the message loud & clear that they no longer want single male tourists in Sosua so I will heed that message spend my $ elsewhere. As I discussed with several people down there, I feel sorry for all the working folks that are suffering be / see of this crackdown: motoconchos, taxis, restaurants, hotels, barbers, bars, tour guides, massage parlors, etc. There's a palpable malaise around town. Walking the streets as a tourist you kinda feel like a warm body in a zombie apocalypse! I did notice more guys coming in later in the week and I could only assume that they hadn't heard about the changes. If you're looking for quantity or quality, the Su is not recommended for any length of stay.
P.S. #1 - I don't deal with websites or apps for finding talent when I travel, so I can't comment on how viable the Su is if you meet chicas over the internet.
P.S. #2 - In case you're wondering, family tourists were nowhere to be found! The Hard Rock Cafe was empty the whole time I was there. Buenas suerte to the govt w / their grand scheme of turning this into Punta Cana / La Romana North.
P.S. #3 - FYI, this is a one off post to inform fellow mongers so they can avoid wasting their $ based on false expectations. I don't have the time to engage in any back-and-forth about what I've written.
As dead as I have erver seen Sosua
The strip never looked that dead at 1 am on a Saturday. This video proves Sosua is dead, atleast for now. Ill be there Halloween.
I have been coming to Sosua a couple times a year for the past 14 years and this is the deadest I have ever seen the streets and bars.
I walked to Smiley's on Friday night about 10:00 pm and there was only about 10 people on the street from Surf Liquor to Smiley's and the bars were more or less empty for a Friday. Walked down to the Jolly Roger and back on Saturday about 9:00 pm and a little more life but more national police than tourists. On the plus side there is only about half as may loud ass motorcycles running up and down the streets.
Mid October is still early so maybe things will pick up in November.
