My Spanish was virtually non-existent when I first visited Cartagena. I managed to muck through. I think you can do the same. You could probably manage in Medellin with Greg's driver picking you up. But Medellin might be a bit much.

I would suggest that you stay in an apartment in Laguito. You could contact Mery(recently listed on the CTG thread) or Juan Ventura([url]http://www.zepelion.com/apartamentos/index.htm[/url]). They both speak pretty good English.

I agree with Dodger. You have time before your trip, give yourself a cram course in spanish. Invest the time knowing you will need some basic spanish to enhance your trip. I'm not trying to discourage you, I just know from first-hand experience the difference between going to Costa Rica or more touristy locations, as opposed to Cartagena.
I started with the Pimsleur spanish tapes. Very easy to learn at least the basics. My spanish is still weak, but I'm always trying to work on it. CTG is the reason I make the effort.

The Jan 11 promo for Luis was one thing, but let us HOPE it will not be repeated every three days (IMHO the january 14th post was WAY too soon to resume the spamming). Further, it contains Luis' email addres which is a violation of WSG rules. Don't know Luis, or anybody in Armenia (other than a lady met online), but I hate to see USEFUL CONTENT diluted by everybody spamming for "their" preferred guide.

Is it hard to understand how to calculate and spend COP since it is so small ?

Does anyone know if the bancs (or what particular banc) will give cash advances on a credit card? Up to how much? Colombian pesos are fine.

CP divided by two then take 10% off that

Example $100,000 CP Divided by 2 is $50.00 Minus 10% is $45.00

So i.e. $100,000 CP's is Roughly $45.00.

What options do you have to get from Cali to Armenia
How long does it take to get to Armenia (depending on the options)
If bus is the only option : where do you find busses going to Armenia ?
Do you travel to Armenia at "late" or very "early morning" hours ? Or only during daylight times ?

Thanks for feedback.[/QUOTE]If you go to main bus terminal a taxi will charge 21k cop/passenger so if you pay for four tickets (84k cop) you get it all to yourself. It is a very safe trip.
