Bottom line is, the Mayorista isn't exactly a focal point of a visit to Medellin anyway.

So many other venues and places to have fun and meet people.

Not until recently (last couple years or so) has the area even been frequented by a fair amount of gringos.

It's not for everyone, however, if you know what you're doing, it can certainly be entertaining.

Also, anytime you're dealing with any street chica, no matter where she bases herself, you take a risk of drugs, theivery, etc.

I've found though, the Mayorista area to be much better controlled than other areas and besides the occassional bad performer, I've NEVER had a problem out there, with years of visiting.

Your last line saying, "go ahead to the Mayorista if you don't mind a knife being pulled on you", is pretty silly really.

You might as well say, 'don't visit Colombia or you may get a knife pulled on you'.

It could happen anywhere you walk about, the Mayorista or wherever.

Actually, I've only paid to be with a Mansion girl once a couple years back.
I can certainly understand why guys do partake, it's just not my thing.

I do like to stop by and hang out sometimes and buy them a drink or a cerveza.

I've been friends with all 3 of the owner / manager guys for quite a while, as well as with Marcy.

Mayorista girls are still safer than street walkers in El Centro in my opinion but there are those who still swear by them as well so go figure.

I believe Ricker told me once of a bloodied girl come running out of a Mayorista hotel butt naked with a local chasing her with a gun.

I have seen fights break out and the police were there in a heartbeat and hauled away the riff raff with no questions asked, just gone in 60 seconds!

While at Mayorista I can not say that your situation would not happen to me but the signs I look for and AVOID are if the girl looks like she is on drugs or drunk AND if they ask for money up front.

BTW Fellas; I never wrote this before but once when I had some time to kill at Mayorista I went into the lobby's of each of the hotels along the strip. I inquired as to how much the rooms were for short time and longer and all night. Surprisingly the all night room was only an average of 6, 000 pesos more than the 1/2 hour (most were 18, 000 all night)! Also those rooms are usually on the second floor or higher and are clean and have fresh sheets and pillow cases and not just moped and straightened out from the last couple. You can also bring another/different girl in for another round for another 6, 000 pesos.

ALSO; for the 1/2 hour short time, I asked if I was not able to seal the deal with the girl (like she turns sour once inside the room) and had to leave, could I get my money back for the room (like after 5 or 10 minutes and the room is still the same way as when we entered). Not surprisingly they ALL said no BUT they ALL said I would have a credit and if I brought another girl that same night I would not have to pay another fee for the same 1/2 hour room.

So if you don't want to hear that knock on the door and/or if you are going to be romping with more than one chica that night, go for the all night room.

LOL basically 2nd and 3rd bad signs were out of order. 1st she tried to take me elsewhere but as I said no, we stayed at the motel right where I found her, so that sign didn't register as such bad one. 2nd sign of her wanting to pay me up front, I negotiate to put down the money on table, after showing her the money. i walked out of this incident with only minor scratch on my arm but i had story and experience to tell my friends. mayorista girls might seem cheap but it is not really that cheap. casa girls are better bargain and safer. not to mention all the risks std, ****(no cedula) and other issue these girls have. it is true that there are also nice girls but choices are slim and services are not as good as it was before 8month ago during summer. it is your money and your life. it is your choice. only thing i can do is simply tell you guys my experience on account of what happened at mayorista. i am no noobie at mongering and i've traveled about 20 different countries. i've also stayed and visited roughest area and avoided many troubles. times are rough and poor people get more desperate at this desperate times. crime rate going up all over the world isn't just imagination. it is reality. traveling in colombia, one should take extra caution. while there are other safer venues in mde, mayorista doesn't appeal to me as my future destination now.

I would NOT categorize Mayorista as completely safe of even "safe" for that matter, pick pocketers, bar fights, ladrones, vendors and musical groups who do not take no for an answer run amuck. I would definitely fit Mayorista in the category of a Tijuana for sure. *IMHO mongering in mayorista is safer (Don't quote me) than SW mongering in the centro. Why? There are more cops and the smaller radius makes it easier to police.

Mayorista is an industrial area with a little red light section of 4 blocks. If you walk 2/3 blocks in either direction you are nowhere. There are a few little bodegas where you can buy your beer and peanuts and a meal if you feel brave. Thats it. I stand there for an hour and I'm already bored.

That is so true, I moved from Colorado to California in 06 and have done my mongering in Mexico and Central America and for what u pay for a 3min lap dance in the us u get full service with happy ending in many other countries south of the border.
