I guess it would be worth it if you were going to do many trips back and forth.

I rented a car and drove all around Cancun without any issues. I was wondering if renting a car in Nuevo Laredo or Reynosa might be a better option. I have been on the bus between NL and Reynosa and MTY and really didn't see any issues. I talked to a chica I see in Mexico City and she didn't think driving in Mexico was all that dangerous.

I have driven a lot in Mexico in cars and motorcycles. The process for a temporary import permit for your car and insurance is pretty easy. 75.00 for cost of permit, good for 180 days. 400.00 deposit which is refundable when you close the permit leaving Mexico and you can do multiple entries for up to six months before you need to close permit. Liability insurance varies on length of time but is pretty cheap. 50.00 for one week or 200 for six months.

From any of the companies. I then found a cabbie who drove me to several local rental firms around Reynosa and only 1 had a car available. They wanted a 5000 peso cash deposit on top of the rental fees and insurance. I caught the bus instead and Ubered. This was January pre-Covid so I can only imagine things are worse now. At Monterrey airport, several of the companies have left since then leaving empty buildings with their logos still attached on the rental car return row. Also, since summer, the companies that are there, have reduced their inventory significantly. For reference, I last rented at the airport in September and November.

I have been down that route. Registering your car is pain in the ass. I had a truck breakdown, now they will not let register my new truck until the inspect the old one. Total b. S, life in Mexico. There is a checkpoint between Laredo and MTY, they are very strict, they love turning you away. Tip does not work, trust me.

Girls are usually very beautiful. But they don't have a lot to choose from, contrary to the site.
