Neither reason is a good one, but those are the reasons.

BKK
Finally made it back to LoS after a 15 year break. After reading the forum for ages, just had to try out Livingstones. Lovely place, with great ambience (not sterile like the international hotels), almost like staying at a friend’s place.
Unfortunately was only in BKK 1 night, and a colleague who is a long time resident had arranged a full night, so was not able buy Giotto a beer (next time, I promise!), nor check out the late night action in the Sports bar.
Anyway, arrived mid afternoon from a week in Phuket (check that forum for that report), and had a couple of hours to kill before meeting up with my colleague. Walked to the end of Soi33, but couldn’t be arsed walking any further, so turned around to check out the Office right across the road from Livingstones. At 4pm on a Friday I was one of only 3 people inside, but was surrounded by a bevy (ie over a dozen) of lovely ladies wearing hot pink see-thru nighties! Had a few beers there, & nearly didn’t leave, but had to meet up with my mate.
After a shower, he called & arranged to meet… at the Office! Had another couple of beers there before dinner…. Decided to come back later in the night if nothing else happened. Very pleasant dinner in Italian restaurant up the road, then across the road to Christies. In my research in the forum I recalled Giotto warning against it, but my (20 year resident) colleague was leading the way. Inside was dingy & smelly. Sure, a few girls, but definitely not the style of the Office. Two quick rounds here, then outside before we got rolled.
Rather than try more of the elegant Soi 33 bars, my mate suggested going a little more downmarket to Soi Cowboy. He did suggest going further down the gutter to somewhere like Patpong, but I couldn’t be bothered with the travel (only here for 1 night).
Walked to Soi Cowboy, & straight into Tilac. Perched up inside one of the dance floors, so was able to check out action at both bars (although did get a stiff neck looking up at girls on my side). Was very pleasant for a few drinks. Watched the girls cycle through dancing on the bars (did one bar for 2 songs, then the other bar for another 2 songs, before cycling back into the crowd). All danced in see through red bikinis.
Made a choice after checking out the available talent. She was by far & away the best girl (#23) in the whole bar, but after 1 ladydrink revealed it was “that time of the month”. A great excuse, as you can never really tell, unless you see her leave later with someone else. Anyway, went for 2nd choice (#8), who had a Chinese-type face (PRCs really float my boat) with pig-tails & hot body (well, they all had hot bodies). Unfortunately her opening quote for the night was 3500baht, & when I laughed at that she left without even trying to bargain (OK, my mistake… would probably have settled for 3k later). Strike 2. Made mention to my buddy about another girl, & he asks mama-san to bring her over (he speaks passable Thai, making bargaining easier). However, after 10-15 mins, no show. I am no oil painting, but had I grown that old & disgusting?
However, another girl had already caught my fancy (#57), so had forgotten about Strike 3. It was getting a little late for me (1am) and I didn’t want to waste too much of my time, so got buddy to chat up girl #4. All settled at 2500 + BF. Taxi back to Livingstone’s while my mate (“pimp”) moves onto another bar.
In bed, she turns out to be a real animal. Loads of DFK, finger action (very juicy), BBBJ, mish, doggy, cowgirl etc. While her face was 6.5/10, her body was a superb 9.5/10!! Even after seeing her in the see-through red bikini at the bar, her tits & ass were much better in the flesh (so to speak). The same reasons they ask about American, French, Indian, Lebanese, or Italian restaurants. Despite the great Thai food, they may have a favorite that they want while away from home or may just want to mix it up a bit. They may live in BKK and want to sample something new or they may go to BKK every other month and want to broaden the menu.
Many of us may not need anything but Thai, but I can certainly understand why someone else may ask that question. I'm sure if you really think about it, you can come up with a dozen different reasons.
You are also probably wrong to assume that he went to BKK in search of non-Thai girls. He's probably there to see Thai girls and may want to add to the mix. He could be there on business and Thai girls may not be his first choice. He could be there on vacation with wife/girlfriend and is looking for some action on the side and may like Thai girls but may have other first choices. The danger in assuming is that you have no idea why he's there, what his reasons are, etc.
Just keep in mind, people have their reasons. Most of the time, it's a good one, at least for them and for those with similar tastes. If J-Girls were available, I would definitely be in line, especially at BKK prices.
By the way, what's wrong with Chinese girls and Filipina's? They have some stunning woman with mad skills too! If I could get Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and Filipina's in BKK at BKK prices that would save me alot of money traveling to all those countries! LOL! I will be returning to Bangkok in August but this time with my girlfriend from Vietnam, as you could notice by my lack of posts, I have been very quiet and really a good faithfull boy since I met her in Paris 9 months ago
