Money: We used Citibanks, and the money exchange at the Oviedo Mall, the one with the internet cafe, and cell phone store because they are lacked on the paper work.
Brocs,
Nice to hear you had a great time, espeacially at the street parties with the locals. Those experiences can last forever.
One question: In the part of your post that I've quoted above, did you mean "lax" on the paper work as in they didn't require you show nor did they record your passport info?
Thanks again,
Schwmm

Very well said Sir. I could not agree more with you on your tipping practices. If you are happy and satisfied with your level or service then you should leave a nice tip. If the services provided are not up to your standards no tip is also appropriate.
You will hear a lot of this "You'll Spoil the girls. " all that means is that the 5k-10k "tip" that the others guys leave will be seen as cheap. Simple solution; don't be cheap. It's another $5USD
Just my two cents
As I posted on another board. The issue is not tipping or even over tipping. It's GROSSLY over tipping. When you tip 70%-200% of your bill, there is something wrong with that.
Now don't tell me some wiseass is not going to think. "what a rich prick. Maybe I'll get him robbed and beat up on his next trip to show him a lesson". All I'm saying is to be careful and not make yourself a target. Not just from locals but from the hobby community at large. If you must do it, do it discretely and not "brag" about it. Think about what how your actions can be perceived by others.

Appreciate the safety advice. I have been to Colombia Bogota and Cartagena quite a few times so I am no stranger to Colombia. Second, I usually stay at quality hotels like the Marriott, Hilton, Courtyards, etc. If one of those places gets robbed then no place is safe.
I only take with me what I pan on spending anyways, so whatever I lose, it was going to go anyways.
Not to brag on myself but I have traveled to every country in central and south america at least twice thus far and even a few three times in the past 5 1/2 years, so I am no newbie or rookie in this part of the world.
Have you stayed or repeatedly gone long to a country long enough to be recognized as "the rich gringo"? I hope not, because it looks like trouble is only a few steps behind.
This is quite a funny conclusion though. I understand how some members of this board can get mad with you. Cheers
Good point / observation!

I agree with you Mellow is always good to give out good tips. This makes me #1 every where I go. Refering to the girls is always better expensive girl. I will hate to fuck some Centro Girl for $25cop can you imagine how many times this girls gets fuck daily? I prefer Exclusive services.
Mellow,
I do not discriminate on who I give tips to. For me it's all about my personal satisfaction and I do not give one rotten egg about messing up anything for whomever. That's not what I am thinking about when I leave tips.
Tipping people no matter what profession is what I do. I tip the waiters and waitresses at Denny's $5. 00 for a $11. 00 breakfast, I tip my barber $10. 00 for a $15. 00 haircut, which means no matter when I walk in, I have an appt and am always next. I tip the hotel bellhops $5. 00 for taking my bag from the lobby to the room, I tip the taxi drivers $5K extra for taking me down to El Centro, etc., etc. So tipping 40% or more is not unusal for me, No Matter Where I Am.
Some people are big tippers and some people are NOT. Perhaps if I had to worry about counting pennies then I would not tip the way I do. Fortunately, for me I do not have to count my pennies.
Driver answer
Brocs.. Glad you had another great time.. And thanks for such an awesome report.. This should be a model for all reports! I love that you put in addresses so we don't have to go dig for it. BTW, Abydos is well known (it's on the list). I need to check it out again. Everytime I go, it's too early and no girls.
Question about the driver.. Is that 50k COP a day or $50? Does he speak english? My friend doesn't speak spanish and he would be more comfortable with a driver that speaks spanish.
We threw Ruben between 90K-100K everyday. If we ate he eat with us always. If the three of us were all together with him at the casa's we always offered him a girl. He would leave every day for a hour or so to change cloths or cars. He was driving from morning till night. I knew we found the right guy in him. He was living in Long Island till a divorce sent him back to Colmbia, perfect English. Huge heart. Feel free to PM for his email and number. I have him grab everyone at airport I send him a photo and he's right there. He makes 3 stops ATM, minutes for cell, and then home sweet home.

Unless you are paying "major" bucks for actress/model types you are kidding yourself if you think they are exclusive.
If you can't make $200 bucks uptown on one night but you still need pesos you go downtown and cut your losses. A mother doesn't give a crap where the food money comes from as long as it cums!
On the other hand if you aren't making enough downtown and can "pass" for an uptown chica then that is the next logical step. I banged a few centro chicas for 30k that could easily fool you.
I've seen it with my own eyes.
"Uptown downtown. All around town" Hey wasn't that a big hit in the 70's?

Schwmm
Hey Schwmm, yes they were relaxed. Funny though when K changed up 600 there, he's a blond Boston kid, they didn't even ask him for a passport. When zis went in to change 300, (he filled out forms and fingerprinted, Latvian eastern Europe). The guy told him though he is now on file and will not need his passport again. So if you don't look like KGB you might not need anything but bring the passport just in case.

Very good advice: "Do not draw any undue attention to yourself."
Be safe guys and save some Chicas para me hasta puedo volver!!

Schwmm
I agree.. Considering the average person there makes $220 a month.. He made $350 in a week with free food and drinks.
It brings up an interesting idea of a full time driver next time if I go with a bunch of friends. I'll try to negotiate a weekly deal with a driver. I think it might end up being cheaper than taking taxis all the time.

Spin it a little

Gas is not cheap in Colombia and looked like about 3 dollars a gallon, he paid this, one of the girls we dragged back burnt a whole in his seat with a cigarette(why do girls always wind up doing this). He ate the repair on that. Also he paid for parking and tolls.
It worked out to like 17 a day per guy and we pony'd up on his food which was cheap.
Just another option with three people being stuck in El Poblado.

Visiting next week
I am still undecided between San Jose & Medellin.
Planning to leave on Sunday or Monday. I am traveling solo with less than basic Spanish.
Is Medellin a safe place for Canadians?
Any advice for a newbie Please PM me some girls phone numbers, cheap hotels and any other info that can help me.
And also need an update on Costa Rica(the situation on new laws)
Thanks
