I think AB now includes Tegel airport but not Pottsdam (need C for that). I bought AB and from Tegel last year and was told it included the airport.

Better to stay near Adenauerplatz, Savignyplatz,or just south or east of Bahnhoff Zoo, (all lively easy transport near the brothels or Artemis) or further away and more urbany, Mitte or Prenzlauerberg for the hip East. Buy 1 day Tagespass, to get a feel for all, but also you really can bike everywhere. Tagespass 6. 30 vs bike 8-12 so hunt around but you can see more and save lots of time on a bike. Ask at info desk.

Came in there last Friday about 1630. There are 2 main bus zones as you exit-to the left the expresses to Bahnhoff Zoo, to the right the busses towards Alexanderplatz. I would guess there were easily 500 people on each. I have done this 100 times and never saw it so bad. The overhead displays said busses were arriving, but clearly nothing was, or had for a while. I asked the BVG (the Berlin Transit Authority) dudes,"Was der Fuck"? They replied it was just typical late Friday afternoon traffic and the city was snarled up. I said there was nothing typische about it at all. Waited a good 20 min and nothing was arriving. So the plan became grab a taxi to closest U-Bahn which is Jakob Keiserdam U7. I asked the cabbie was war los and he said there was a bad accident on one of the cross streets just outside the airport, and or while they were moving some large cranes. He was not very clear on it, and as the traffic got bad for us also leaving (the U Bahn is normally a 5-7 min ride if that) I felt a bit taken, especially when he started talking about flat rates all the way to my place (the Caligula of taxis).

But then the road did open up (at least the bus and taxi lane) and was the right call to just keep calm and stick with the plan. But, coming into the airport, from about 3 kms out, it was completely blocked. I saw lots of people walking with their luggage on the middle of the autobahn, obviously at great risk of missing their flight. Never seen anything like it at Tegel which is normally really a breeze getting in and out of. Disturbing that no one on the bus platform seemed to have any real idea what was going on.

So clearly an unusual perfect storm deal. I mention it only in case any mongers use it eg to get to and from Artemis or from the West Berlin Bordello Triangle etc. There should never be bad traffic. The distance involved by taxi should be 15min and by bus & S-Bahn maybe 25 (reported earlier on the Arts thread). If you hit some kind of wall in either direction and it lasts more than 5 min say just to a traffic light, you know something bad is up and plan accordingly.

If you're going to do some sightseeing then the day pass is excellent value; however if you're going to spend all day in one of Berlin's most excellent clubs then two single tickets would be cheaper. Don't forget to stick your ticket in the ticket stamping machine the first time you use it though.

As for sightseeing despite being in Berlin for the week all I saw was the inside of the Olympiastadion, the Brandenburg Gate, and the excellent Berliner Mauer exhibit out by the Nordbahnhof.

I had also wanted to see the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche, however I arrived to find it completely shrouded as they are currently restoring it.
