I must say you are crazy if you spent $500 USD. The going rate at the LA cafe is 1000 pesos ( $18.55 USD) ST and sometimes LT. You must mean 500 Pesos on your last post.

A question for accomodations. I was in makati in 9/03. very nice but can't get Balikbayan rate at the shangrila (cause Im white) and now is 135 pernight over x mas. I did love the place but never got my bearing in Makati although I did make it over to Burgous street my last night. My ? is.... should I try staying in manila ie an area closer to the nightclubs ie the edsa shangrlila. I want to see more of manila this time. I cant screww non stop ( I am 47) and I am interested in experiencing the culture of the real Philippinos for part of my vacation.

You’re question is a little vague to me, maybe because when I think of the word “culture”, in itself, I’m not sure what it means. Culture is such a loaded word that sometimes it doesn’t mean anything unless its placed in its right context.
Anyway, I think I know what you mean. If you’re talking about the bar scene where most locals go, then you might want to remain in Makati. Most of the bars there are decent, meaning not a whole lot of bar fights, and you’ll meet a lot of upper middle class Filipina women.
Bars: Where else ?, Wasabe, Euphoria..

Also, try the malls. When I was there last year, I hung around Glorietta mall and Rockwell. You’ll find mostly regular/non-pro filipinas in this area. I also went Paddy’s point in Timog and it was quite interesting. I found out that some women in that club were Pros.
Try to stick around areas where it’s safe. I don’t think you would like to know the bad culture of PI.

I think Ozikboy meant the real culture of the Phillipines .. eg. native food, music, normal night spots like discos and other non-sex diversions. True culture being things that locals do for fun as opposed to stuff created just for tourists. For example in Tokyo you would watch Sumo, eat at a top notch Sushi restaurant, hit the Shibuya city night clubs, visiting the open markets, visiting the Japanese temples, etc. I could be wrong, but that's how I read it.

For accomodation around nr Burgos..try the Oka Hotel on kalayaan Ave...very near Burgos (abt 50 metres :)) ) Ive stayed there a few tyms..always good and no problems tyaking guirls back.....Or try www.asiatravel.com for great deals in some manila hotels. I always stay at heritage Hotel in pasay....have never paid more than 60 USD...many clubs around there too..and a lot cheaper than burgos clubs..:)
For real Philippine culture...just get out of manila... have lots of fun and please keep us posted..

To make your anecdotes useful to us other mongers with limited psychic ability, i suggest that you stick to more primitive modes of thinking such as logical reasoning or deduction. A little modesty may also help.

I hate to let you know mongers out here who's looking for action on the streets of Quezon City, Manila, Mabini, Ermita or Malate Those girls are the "bottom of the barrel". The reason they are out there is because no sex establishment would take them. These establishments have doctors that makes sure that they are healthy before they start working. Most of these SWs have already been scared by STDs or is suffering from one. Their hygiene is highly questionable coz they are stricken by poverty which means they can't even afford sanitary products or possibly even uneducated about it. The locals wouldn't even touch them. I suggest that you stick with establishments such as KTVs, MPs and bars where you will be "safe".

Since you want to see culture and cannot screw non-stop. I suggest to pick a nice girl and have her show you around outside Manila. Not much to see around the town except historical stuff and lots of malls or shops and of course, the night clubs.

When Filipinos themselves want culture they find the next big fiesta like "Sinulog" in Cebu and enjoy themselves. Christmas in the Phils is well... quite merry. They already started decorating this past October and gets merrier til the 25th. Forget the Shangri-la, you can find a place as nice for half the price and girl or guest friendly around Pasay or Malate.Plus it is real close to the clubs.

For most Filipinos, their greatest culture is their love of basketball, partying and just plain having a good time. Just get some feedback of some of the places you might want to go and do some research before travelling south. Way south. Have fun and be safe.

Usually I'm not trying to be so cheap, because I find in general you get what you pay for. This night, by the time I got to LA Cafe, I only had about 1200 pesos left in my pocket (after getting a massage at a korean oriented place that ended with zippo extras, and visiting some other places). I really only intended to grab a beer and a sandwich and window shop. This girl came up and sat with me, and after a little while I started warming up to her, and her to me. I got ready to leave, telling her I just didn't have the money to spend on her tonight, but that I'd come back.

She asked how much I had, I told her I only had about 500 pesos left after paying the tab (and saving cab fare back to Makati). She said it would be fine, even after I explained I wouldn't have money for a tip. "Let's go" she said.

I was worried that service would be poor, but she really surprised me, a GFE in all. She kept commenting on how she liked that I was nice to her, and that I didn't look down on her for what she did. Kind of a funny remark, but she seemed sincere.

Again, sorry to confuse everyone with the dollars versus pesos slip (interesting to see though who few people gave the "benefit of the doubt" that it was a typo, and that most people assumed I really had paid $500. Hmmm. )

I'll be in Manila Dec 20-21. I can show you around if you want to. I'm noypi too. Going to Mindanao to see my non-pro GFs. Quezon Avenue/Tomas Morato is my station. First trip in 2001. Paid P 12,000 for a what? That was $ 300 US at that time. Reminds me of an MD who earns only the equivalent of $ 500/Month in Cebu City.
