Columbia Colombia Kolumbia Kolombia
At Puntz79.
A traveler should know that different language has a different spellings for the same word.
I want to leave this at RTFF, but. Look at the maps, World Travel 69 pretty much has everything down with this maps. There is so much in there and for different parts of Bogota, from Santa Fe to Zona Rosa, to other parts of this huge city.
How's your spanish? If decent, you can have a very good time as opposed to someone who doesn't speak spanish and would stand out and risk not having a good time. As for logistics, you should really make sure you have your trip planned well. Bogota is a big city, there's lots to do, lots to see, and you want to be sure about where you are where you're going etc. As for where to stay, go with somewhere in Zona Rosa / Parque 93 if you want to be in a good, safe area. Santa Fe is risky, let's just put it that way. It does not mean you're going to have something bad happen to you, but if you are by yourself and it's your first time I'd advise you to pick another area and visit Santa Fe during the day. Check the maps for bars and casas.
Also, it's Colombia (not Columbia). Minor thing but really, as I work with Colombians I've come to discover that they can be annoyed when the name of their country is misspelled and I agree. The name is a part of their identity, so get it right as that's the least thing you can do. Yes you can find a few Asians, and mixed Asia, but it's not that easy and you should keep your expectations in check about finding them. You are in Latin America after all.
Exchange cash you $ Dollars in Bogota
Where is the best place to exchange cash USD in Bogota?
Can anyone answer this please.
Bogota best place to exchange cash you $ Dollars
If I had a clue where the best place is to exchange cash you $ Dollars in Bogota is I would not ask here. It does not matter how many people live in a city. There are mostly only 2 options banks or private exchange. I'm surprised that no one know here.
Google and many other search engines are about commerce.
The poster I was responding to was speaking english, and was doing it in the Bogota section of the Colombia Forum. Not the Columbia Forum. Or the Kolombia Forum. Or the Kohlumbiah forum. Colombia is the name of the country.
Also, after 3 weeks you are still asking where the best place to exchange your $ in a huge city of 12 million is. Did you attempt to to RTFF? Even if you did, how could you not spend any time googling this in the last 3 weeks? Seriously?
Best place to exchange you $ Dollars cash in Bogota
LatinaLover#1,
Thanks that was very helpful I remember getting the quickest service and the best rate at the Medellin airport.
Downtown Medellin the casa de cambios would charge omission and the banks were slow. In Costa Rica Scotia bank has the best rates specially if you have euros. In Brazil private people offered the best exchange rate.
My recent stay was in Chico navarra, right next to Banco Colombia. I only changed $200 at the airport cambio thinking the rate at the bank would be better. Not so. At the airport I got 2400 something and at the bank I got 2200 something. I usually go to the cambios in the mall, seems like I get the best there. In some countries like Coast Rica the bank is the way to go but in Colombia it is probably the last place to go, bad rate, long lines and a lot of red tape. Also in Rio the cambios pay much better. Most likely because it's the best way for the mob in Rio to launder money. A sure sign your in a mob cambio in Rio is there are no armed guards at the door. You go to the bank and they lock the door behind you and have guards with Uzzi's, the mob uses a jewelry store with one little old guy sitting at the counter. Go figure!
Currency Exchange in Bogota
A local just gave me this link and told me that the malls use this rate +-100 pesos.
Third floor in the Andino Mall, zone rosa, Bogota, I found a money exchange place. I think it was New York Money. Something like that. Very good rate of 2400 to the dollar. So I agree the malls are better for your dollar changing. Forget the banks, long lines, red tape, etc. And a lot of banks don't change money.
The Marriott is a long way from anything. http://www.bing.com/local?lid=YN8041x11295453406612811837&id=YN8041x11295453406612811837&q=JW+Marriott+Hotel+Bogota+Bogota+Capital+District&name=JW+Marriott+Hotel+Bogota&cp=4.581264~-74.1667
Can you point me to the map?
I'll be at the JW Marriott, which I presume will not be chica friendly. Since there will be other people I know at the hotel, I'm also not too excited about bringing a girl up to the desk and registering her. Which mean I am left with finding Casas / in call locations.
I am hoping to find a good place close the the JW Marriott, since I am a little nervous about walking a long distance having not been to Bogota / Columbia before.
Appreciate any suggestions / advice.
