Gangles[/QUOTE]I suggest that your friend take a look at a one or two bedroom apartment at Red Knight Garden on Lanang. They've got kitchen facilities and it's a nice place that will not put too deep a dent in the budget.

It has a great location with a nice large pool and rooftop restaurant. Once a grand hotel, it now shows its age. Actually, I like this. Since I can’t afford a top-notch luxury hotel like Marco Polo, the next best thing is a top-notch luxury hotel that has aged and therefore offers reasonable rates. I didn’t stay at Apo this time, but last year there was an electrical fire in the lobby while I was staying there. I recommend you folks learn where the fire exits are in any hotel, and especially aging hotels.

Royal Mandaya Hotel, 225-888, 2200pesos for a standard room including a decent breakfast buffet. Free wi-fi in the lobby. Has airport shuttle. This hotel is on Palma Gil St., a short walk from the Apo View/ Casa Leticia / People’s park area. There are two towers with a pool in between. Apparently the rooms were remodeled in 2007. Remodeling might still be ongoing in the west tower. The rooms were nicely done, clean, box springs, large TV and good views of the city/ ocean. My room had a tile floor, which means you are less likely to get mildew smell. Unfortunately, the room had a door between my room and the next room which allowed a lot of noise to pass through. The service was very good with one glaring exception – the pool. One guy on duty and no frig, so if you want a drink he has to hike down to the restaurant. One time I ordered juice and it took so long that we joked that he must be squeezing the mangos. Then he arrived with canned mango juice and I sent him back for the real deal. I realized later that the menu had both “fresh” and “canned” juices. The pool is open only to seven, but is often closed in the middle of the day for cleaning. Also, while I was poolside, the guy started throwing chemicals into the pool. Gee thanks. Overall, very good value.

Inexpensive hotel, with a small pool and great location near the smallish JS Gaisano mall, restaurants, money changers, San Pedros Street streetwalkers, and Doctor’s Hospital/College. This place is doable, but just barely. My last review I mentioned that the things that really need to be clean were clean (bed/bath), and it was the corners and high spots that showed a lot of dirt. I won’t be so kind this time around. I realize those long black hairs are hard to get rid of, but I don’t like finding a gob of the stuff in the drain, nor do I enjoy stepping on the previous guest’s corn cracker. The cobweb in the corner had dust bunnies in it – I don’t know how long spiders live, but this homestead had probably seen many generations. I washed a pair of socks and hung them out the window and was disgusted by the pile of cigarette butts on the ledge below the window. Another turn off was the security box arrangement. The lady at the desk put everything in an envelope (for the hotel safe) and took inventory – including asking how much cash was included. That being said, the front desk staff were friendly and helpful.

Las Casitas a newer hotel with a great location on Rizal Boulevard. Hotel Las Casitas 185 Rizal St. Davao City 082-2240945 P800+ The east side rooms might be noisy since they face the Rizal Promenade which (videoke, disco, live band, and other noise…) They have a small lobby which is nicely done. Adjacent to the lobby is a smallish restaurant that has free wi-fi. The rooms are very simple, but clean.

I didn’t stay here, but did look at a room. Less than 1000 pesos and looked very clean, although it had a simple, stark look to it. You would never say the same thing about the exterior or the common area decorations. For example, out front there is a three or four meter tall Durian womb. Yes, you read that right. It’s a cast metal durian fruit with people gushing out of the split in the fruit. I also liked the gecko staircase at the rooftop restaurant/bar, which has free wi-fi. The artist has made this hotel is personal canvas. The same artist has many works at People’s Park (behind Apo View Hotel) and also the large sculpture in front of the airport.

I paid 2500 which I thought was a bit high considering the great place I had on Alona Beach, Bohol for less money. Standard fan rooms go for 1,650. Nevertheless, it’s nice being so close to the beach. They have nice landscaping and some interesting birds. Kind of sad seeing eagles in small cages though. If you are renting a place you don’t have to pay the resort entrance fee which is 100 per person.

Nice review Xman. I had heard similar comments about Galleria recently from a couple of other people who stayed there. Too bad, since it used to be a reasonably-priced, decent place. Guess the best alternative now in this price range is the Casitas, though I heard from someone else recently that this place too, though only a year old, is starting to show some wear and tear. Maintenance is not a concept that has achieved a firm footing here.

We went this week to the new Indian restaurant a few doors down from Hola Espana and had an excellent experience. It's owned by an Indian/Afghan who was born and raised in Canada.He's a great host and the food was excellent. The cost per person, including drinks and tip was about Php500 and we ordered too much to finish. This place is right next door to a new bar called Sam's Cowboy Bar and Grill. Though I didn't go in, the doorman told me that it mainly attracts large crowds of women and men seeking companionship and the largest crowds gather on Friday and Saturday night. There are a few girls in short shorts dancing to some lousy canned music and I did see them through the door. Don't know if they're available after hours or not.

There's another bar on the other side of the Indian place, and it's very attractive, but I didn't see anyone inside. This could be because it was pouring the night we were there, though the outside tables around the restaurants were full and there was a decent guitarist playing on the small stage set up in the parking lot.

Lanang is fast becoming a new commercial center in Davao, with new restaurants and bars proliferating, it seems, every week.

I leave on the boat to Cebu from Leyte in 30 minutes. It has been a long day riding buses from my home in Leyte. I had to see my daughter and get the lectures from her mother. No sex as usual but not what I was there for now. I am looking to my arrival in Cebu tonight. I hope to see my lovely Rema.

I was on my way, lterally,to the Cebu Airport when I got a call from GE saying he had to fly out tonight from Manila to a distant city north. I was fucking exhausted from the trip through Leyte the day before and also I had gorgeous Sheryle (pronounced She Rill) over from 11:30PM till 07:30AM. Iw as referring to the fast ferry from Ormoc to Cebu.I tookthe new one and cannot remember the name but it is at Pier 3 downtown. The night boat had us there at 10:00PM with no taxis at all anywhere. Unlike pier 4 in Cebu, this is an "after thought" in an area not meant for passengers loading and unloading. One of the porters had to run all the way down to the exit to get me a taxi. Took 20 minutes waiting. At pier 4 where Supercat is located, taxis are always around. I went First Class for P200 more and cannot, for the likes of me, see what you get extra in first class other than not being with the people in economy. No food or drinks served also. I would suggest that the Supercat be the choice in travel to Leyte.

Leyte is still essentially the way it was 40-50 years ago. Cellphones and DVDs only difference. Lots of beautiful, darkbrown colored pussy with large breasts though. I need to post on this later.

Hey guys, I've been living in working in Manila for the last six months, had a few weeks off and decided to give Davao a try after reading this forum. It hasn't been a bust, but so far has been a little short of expectations. I'm early fifties, a reasonably good-looking guy, with 6 or so very good-looking, twenty-something girlfriends in Manila (a mix of semi-pro and regular girls), so I'm not exactly desperate for action. It did take me a while to figure out how to get what I wanted in Manila, so I want to give Davao a chance too. I know some on this forum aren't wild about Manila, but I love it. I've got lots of friends there and I feel like a king with all the attention I get from the women there. But I wanted to expand my horizons and see what the other big cities in the PI are like, so here I am.

First some observations on Davao City. It does have some things over on Manila, like a relative lack of traffic and very little pollution, by comparison. There are outdoor activities close by, beach and mountains, which Manila doesn't have. I went to Samal island yesterday (Paradise beach), which has a reasonably good white sand beach, and some excellent snorkeling right off the beach. Mt. Apo, a huge forested volcano, looms above the city. Haven't got a chance to explore that area yet, but it looks promising. The cost of living is very low. A girl I met took me to her house, a large and very nice multi-bedroom with a panoramic scenic view of the sea and mountains, which rents for about the same price as my studio apartment in Makati (P20,000/mo). This city definitely has some promise.

I first stayed at Las Casitas when I arrived. I can't say that I recommend it, though the price is good and it would do if everything else is booked. I was in a Matrimonial A room first, which was very small, then moved to a Matrimonial Deluxe, which was adequate, but not great. The noise from the next door Rizal Promenade is very loud (live bands) and as far as I can tell, all rooms are affected by this. I'm in the Galleria hotel now in a Junior Suite, which is much better and about the same price as the second room at Las Casitas (P1500). This is a good hotel, with a small but nice pool, and I would stay here again. I've had very good experiences at the restaurants here. Tsuru (sushi) and Hanoi (they share the same building) are both great and reasonable values. The best Vietnamese food I've ever had was at Hanoi (I haven't been to Vietnam), yum! I had a very tasty steak at Da Bonte Koe, and another good meal at Claude's. Those were all pleasant surprises.

After I got here I wrote some girls on CB and got some responses. I went out with Escie (23) and had a good time. She is college educated, speaks perfect, almost unaccented English, and is the most intelligent woman I've met here in the PI. I know what GE was talking about with missing the intellectual component in a girlfriend. She's perfect for that. She's good enough in the looks department, but not quite up to par with my Manila girlfriends. I am really wanting to find some women here who are able to spark some extreme lust in me, but so far I haven't. I've been by the place referred to as Ground Zero numerous times, but nothing of interest yet. O'Flanagan's has some not that good-looking working girls inside, but no thanks. I've gone to Someplace Else, Chico's, and Rizal Promenade too. Lot's of people there, but few if any lookers. I don't think I'm that picky, but if they aren't at least up to par with my Manila girlfriends, then what's the point, I could just go back home. I hope that things will improve as the weekend approaches. Somebody please tell me it will. I know most cities, wherever you are in the world, don't really hop until the weekend. I haven't tried some of the other venues either but will try places like Autoshop and Venue this weekend as well. As for Hot Legs, I have tons of much better versions of those right down the street from where I live in Makati.

If anyone here on the board is in Davao now, I'd love to have a beer with you and swap pointers. I think I've got some pretty good insights on how to get things done in Manila that could save you some time and money. If you are in Manila, give me a buzz and I'll be glad to help you find something hot and not too expensive to take back to your hotel. My buddy and I give parties there regularly with a 3-1 women to men ratio, and if you are lucky enough to be in town for one of those you are really in for a treat (but you must promise to flirt with every woman there to get an invite :) ). Welcome to Davao. I ate at De Bonte Koe tonight, and while driving home, coming up Rizal St., I did notice that Rizal Promenade was jammed and it did look promising. Also, I noticed that Someplace Else, which is adjacent to De Bonte Koe, has crowded with people. After dinner, we walked over to Chicos, which is in front of De Bonte Koe and sat outside. There was a table of three women, two of them very good looking, and also appearing pretty amenable to chance encounters of the sex kind. Of course, I was with my wife so I didn't do anything but glance over at them.

I will be interested to hear your impressions of the Auto Shop. The only time I've ever been there, which was about two years ago, it was mobbed on a Saturday night.

I am in Cebu nowwhere my young son lives after a week on Leyte with my Daughter (and lovely Sarah in Ormoc). I extended my Trip so have to drop by the ticket office Monday morning first. Then off to Davao.

The nightlife in Davao is best on Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights. When I was here last July alone with no lady to meet for the first time in years. I did all my "hunting" on Friday & Saturday nights and Sunday afternoon. Met seven ladies, fucked five and got a handjob from a 6th, Gemma, while having drinks at O'Flanagan's.

I have had numerous men complain about the Economy Hotels in and around downtown Davao. APOview is undergoing renovations now and will be ready soon. It is in the moderate price range. Marco Polo is fabulous but in the expensive price range. But several men who complained should have stayed there as this is the kind of hotel they are accustomed to and it will NOT disappoint.

I recommend that you initially book Red Knights Garden for a week or longer to get a good rate there. This is a nice place and I have heard many men talk highly of it. Unfortunately, it is far from downtown and requires a 30 minute cab ride. Still, try it and should you find it not to your liking, you can then move to another hotel. I will investigate a few more places and report on them.

I strongly urge ALL to avoid Casa Leticia Hotel. I had a horrible experience there. THis Family owned Hotel is no longer run by the Family. Ray Jr, now married, is gone. His older sister and her american husband are now in Chicago and ray Sr. is off running some investment property elsewhere and is in Davao purely socially. It is now run by a small, very young staff. You will not be happy here.

I had booked the Presidential Suite back in early November for Jan, 2,3 &4 so I could have a party there. I called to reconfirm my reservation January 1. But when I arrived the following day I was informed that my Reservation no longer existed and someone else had taken the Suite that same day! The Manager, a kid of 21 who used to be a Clerk here, just came up and shook his head. The girl at the desk denied having spoken to me the day before and only said my reservation no longer existed.

I called GoodENough who had made my initial reservation back in November. He told me that someone must have shown up and offered a bribe for the Pres Suite. The girl simply decided to bluff her way past me the next day. Such a practice is absolutely terrible. I had not stayed here for an entire year due to a previous bad experience regarding a reservation I made two months prior to arrival, back in 2006. Then I was informed on arrival that the A/C in that room did not work and I was offered a smaller and poorer quality room than what I had booked two months earlier.

If you cannot trust a Hotel to honor a reservation you made with them by phone, you can not trust them with anything. Do not stay at this Hotel ever!

Thanks DS for the ferry info. I also felt the "1st class" on Ocean Jet Cebu to Bohol to be unnecessary. The seats were a bit nicer, but I actually preferred being on the top deck -- better view and a nice breeze.

Pthalo, hope your trip improved. It's kind of hard to beat MNL if you live there and have plenty of contacts, but I like the more relaxed atmosphere of DV and the proximty to beaches / nature. As for women, it's always a hit or miss game, but with fewer Westerners around, you're likely to get one who hasn't been spoiled, or damaged by a Westerner.

I'm in Davao at the moment and and its everything DS and GE say it is. I am really enjoying myself and feel comfortable walking around at night. I was walking back to my hotel one night from O'Flannigans and saw a bunch of women on the cnr of Gen Luna and Illustre St and got a psst from one of them but declined as there were some men around one walked across the St so I assume he was giving me room to approach but I don't like it if there are men around I'd rather deal with just women and I have been trying my luck with ordinary girls.

I tried the malls and supermarkets and I found it a bit hard going at first because I didn't know what I was doing. The supermarket women are the least interestng and the most unhelpful bunch of sour women I ever met so forget them unless you like to suffer.

A few days in and I picked up my stride and worked out a few things and got a much better response from the ladies in the malls and also on the street. There are thousands of women to meet here and if you get a knock back there are plenty more.

I am not in the best of shape and am on a disability pension so I met a lady who introduced me to some of her friends who are also interested in introducing me to some of their friends I'm a part time artist so I have a lot of willing ladies who are interested in modeling for me. Anyway I have ended up living in a hotel room with three women and have managed to fool around with two of them. They are looking after me in different ways so many fantasies coming true.
