I have a car and several motorbikes including a sling. When it is up to me my first choice is by far a motorcycle or scooter. Even when it rains I prefer a scooter... why because if you ever drove in Pattaya and had to deal with their concept of driving by the time your get home the day is ruined. You just feel like getting a gun and sit on top of Sukhumvit and have target practice.

As long as you don't act like a fool ( like a Thai ) and drive defensively and use your mirrors you're going to be just fine. It's hot but you get there quickly never worry about parking, gas is cheap, and if you hit a car just take off like a Thai. I take a guess but I think at less 90% of people on scooters don't have any type of insurance to pay you that is why I feel they just take off. And like last year a lady bumped my wife in the back and take off... got the plates but seems no one cares! Cost to me 10,000 baht at the Toyota dealer.

If you're on a holiday just take the Songthaw, cheap and easy, want to get there quickly motorcycle taxis not as bad as people make it.

Walking isn't bad either one can learn a lot and see a lot of candy you normally would not see!

Since we're on the topic of Pattaya at the time around Easter...

Am starting to plan my spring trip to LOS, and am keen to avoid the experience of Pattaya during Songkran week since it really isn't my thing.

Tried googling it, but getting various answers which isn't that helpful. So was wondering, is Songkran in Pattaya going to be 12-19 April this year?

I understand it to start the 12th... I got work there in march and I plan to be out by 12th (or done with work atleast)... I'm with you I hate that holiday.... Ever since some fucking drunk jack ass Farang sprayed me with water while I was in work attire going to a meeting (in bkk not pat's however but ever since I hate this time).

Ya, I was thinking more for guys who come 2-3 weeks a year and save up for a nice trip staying at a decent place, eating and drinking well and going with 2 girls a day. Once you are semi-living here your expenses have to go way down or most of us would be broke. When I stay in Bk for 6 months, my average daily output is probably close to yours.

For the most part, mostly true but don't need to limit yourself to just the Walking St area as most of Pattaya is well cover by the 10baht songthr.(bus) so very easy to get around as it's never over 1-2min wait for a bus.

I am truly hoping that the water fights will be over, or at least on the wane, by that time.

I am in Pattaya for a few days and the US Military are still here after their recent excercise...i have to say right now Pattaya is the most pumping I have ever seen it. The bars are packed and there are loads of young, fun (and very polite and well mannered) US military types giving the place a real sort of Vietnam R&R type feel. It is so refreshing from the usual guys old guys, and Pattaya locals and English lager louts that is the usual mix. The girls are a lot more pumped up and the energy and fun levels are much higher than usual...for my money the best bars in Pattaya right now are Babydolls, Whats Up Bar and The Iron Bar....got an absolute stunner from Sharkys also with big C cup breasts and a perfect body...19 years old and 40 kgs!! Great performed too. For big breast fans try Super Baby which has one girl with massive D cup boobs and although a big girl she is not fat at all...just bigger boned, hope to see her tonight if she is not gone already...also in Whats Up bar in the upstairs area is a girl with a thing body and huge rack....boobs look like she just had a kid but actually she has not.

I may be going to Thailand (Pats & Phuket) most likely the first couple of weeks in April and am wondering if many of the girls, especially the hot ones, go home for Songkran. If so, when do they leave and when do they return? Do they return???

Hi everybody!

I could not read your recent report because I came back from Pattaya with a bad pink eye infection and I can't stand the screen, so I am here face down just looking at the keyborad and typing my report.

I think that after all my questions and request for help I owe you something back, to the one of you first-timers like me as well as to veterans who may enjoy some talking about our main topics. A special Hello, to Thai Learner who I was about to meet there but then, once in Pattaya, anything happens and I was drifted elsewhere by hotel mates, girls, beaches, everything.

So, now I start for real. I have to say that I am overall happy of the experience but I did not enjoy myself as much as I expected.

Part of the let down is for personal reason, example I hate discos music and loud venues and I became fed up quickly with the Walking Street bars (but soi 6, 7, 8 are not much different, after all) but I suppose you are not interested in this. On the other hand, part of the disappointment came from cost of nightlife and because money is about everyone I think this is something we may confront here.

I went to Pattaya with this idea in mind that girls were 500 bath s/t or 1. 000 l/t. I was told so by a friend of mine who used to go every year in the past 4 ys so I had no reason to doubt about it. Only thing he underlined is that he was after a dirty woman rather than a young cutie, so that you may justify cheap rate to you, but I remember girls reported as good looking as well, so we are not talking of the bottom of the chart.

Much to my surprise, I discover quite different rates once there, so I will share this with you to understand if information provided by my friends were wrong or if rates have actually increased since last year. I cannot confront directly with him because he could not come this year, due to hard work and for the same reason I have not speaken to him since my comeback.

I will list my report considering different "class" of girls.

FREELANCERS.

Walking up and down Walking Street I came across many, many fine looking girls already engaged with other gentlemen. I ignore if they were freelancers or bar girl but I was under the imppresion that best was already gone in late January and there were either some left-over available or some expensive one (I will explain this better later).

Girls literary hooking standing on the walkside were no pretty at all, I was lucky enough to get few "walking" girls who looked good and just charged me 500/1. 000 but many others, once got acquainted a little, thay asked me: "How much you give me? "

As I suggested the ordinary 500/1. 000 some tried to raise me to 1. 000/2. 000, some other walked away waving bye-bye without even negotiating.

A girl on Beach Road charged me 700 short time: she was average good looking but no gorgeous and once in the room, she refused me french kiss as well as c. I. M. (anal did not even ask). Another one, a chubby shortie hooked at 4 am out of disco was quite cold in the room and I remember the way she looked disgusted the 500 bath I gave at the end of the session and asked explict 1. 000.

So, this is my general feeling: not cutie, not dirty, not cheap girls as I believed but a mediocre average of it all.

Another bad note goes to disco girls. I mean no bar girls but seemingly "free" girls who go to disco, dance and get acquainted with farang.

I remember I wasted few nights going to Lucifer or Walking Street. Because I hate disco I tried to rush the leaving-disco-for-hotel, but I got a lot of refuse.

Again, I got the impression that thay are not (or don't see themselves) as prostitutes but as girls who like to get a farang for the night who make them dance and drink and after all that maybe go to hotel only if they like the guy. And if this happen, thay get money in the morning the same. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't like that: it seems to me that you have to court AND to pay a girl and I generally pay just because I don't want to flirt too long before sex, if you know what I mean.

The worst of all is the Insomnia bar just at the ground floor below disco. There, very fine girls chat, flirts, and play pool with farang, but if you try to take them out they ask to stay for one more drink or they say they don't work and one of the waiter is her boyfrined. Mmmm. 1, 2, 3 girls same night each one engaged with one of the waiter? What is it, "girlfriend night"? I don't buy it, they are just fake who tried to make customer stay there to drink.

So, after experiencing all this I decided to turn myself to

BAR GIRLS

Maybe it is easy for me to pay-and-go. For many reasibs I don't like the idea of a "barfine" but that's it. Only thing is that is quite hard to spot the "right" girl because there are so many of them and if you just start approaching to have a look to one bar they ask you to sit down and have a drink, so that you can not sit to many bar before finding your mate because that would mean drink the night away spinning hollow.

Moreover, girls working in bars are not necessarely more beautiful than ones on the street and not even hotter in bed so you find yourlsef asking why. Anyway, I had some good time with few bar girls but, again, no deep kissing, no c. I. M. And sometime not even BBBJ. And rates, again, 1. 000/1. 500 up.

Eventually, I though about considering

GO-GOs

First, there is a hell of an urban legend according to which after they get off from work about 3 am girls from go-gos who where not chosen by farang and stayed on the floor until closing time would be inclined to go hotel with one of customer waiting for them outside bar. That would be convenient for both: man because can get girl without paying barfine and lady because they can raise their money rather than going home alone. This is another fake. Girls from go-gos who come out at 3 am after dancing all night are tired and would maybe go with somebody who made deal with them inside bar (meaning: drinking and flirting from late night till closing time), not with first drunk nobody on the street.

By the way, barfine in Go-Gos like Shark and Tiger is 600 bath, and girls charge usually 1. 000/2. 000, which sounds like twice ordinary rate.

So, we are back at start, again, money for drinks, money for barfine, money for girls. It seems there is no way to escape one of them and still get good pussy. After all, it is all quite affordable and possibly still the best bet around, but no "el dorado" as described by somebody.

It was my first time there, but again my feeling is that good times with dolls who make you groove for peanuts are gone, if there ever were, and now business is sneaking deeply into Pattaya too, so that fun is becoming more expensive, girls are getting more comfortable with money-making and self-managing and, ultimately, sex is following rules of the games much as anywhere else more and more.

Given that I could never go there in December because my business is involved with Christmas, if I ever go back I may try late November rather than mid-January to see if the going is more laid back at the begin of the season and cute girls are more available. Meantime I wait to know your point and read your opinion.

I kindly ask to avoid any comment only to the one of you who think they can judge me a cheap charlie. All opinions expressed come from a working class guy trying to get the best from his only hard-earned holiday.

So, if you are retired business men or go-getters who can easily afford plane ticket, hotel, taxi, cocktail on beach, restaurant, shopping et cetera, if it don't mean anything to you if it is 1. 000 or 2. 000 and you don't care paying barfine I am happy for you, but plaese don't laugh at me. Just bypass my post and go your own way.

I was interested to read your report because I am going to Pattaya in a few weeks.

From reading other forums, I think you suffered from peak season prices. At least, I hope so, because I am expecting prices to be a bit lower in April.

The other point I think is that, if you didn´t like loud music, Pattaya was possibly the wrong choice of holiday. Pattaya sells itself as a loud party town. Perhaps Phuket (outside Patong) would have been better.

I do think the girls are prettier in Pattaya though!

Well...
1- It's still peak season so there is more tension on prices. I stayed there at the beginning of December and I saw the girl's attitude progressively changing as peak season was coming. At low season they are starving for customers.
2- In Thailand, as in some other places, what you pay is like a ticket allowing you to play. If you want the girl to be GFE you need to be BFE and gentleman with her. I've been always rewarded for flirting with them.
3- Prices are not the same anywhere: cheaper at Beach Road, then discos (late), then Bier bars and discos (early), then Gogos. In discos they are usually looking for LT and may not accept ST, at beach road and in gogos they often prefer ST.
4- As in any transaction, if you want to get cheap price (in particular during peak season) you often need to bear non-monetary transaction costs, search cost, time cost, etc...

I rarely comment reports but yours was interesting. I don't think you are a cheap charlie, I believe this definition is for people who do not tip good girls, or bargain with girls forgetting it's just 4 or 5 euros/dollars difference. Being cost conscious is a long-term approach, totally different.

I have been in Pattaya very often in the last 20+ years and yes the good times are gone, the cheap, stunning beauties have disappeared together with the nice beaches and clean waters (well they were never that clean.). Like you say, it's no "el dorado" any more.

Go-gos are my primary choice. The rates you mention (1k-2k) are real and cannot be avoided (normally). Yes it may be double the ordinary rate but it is well worth because go-go girls are usually way better than average, and you also save time, plenty of it.

Two weeks ago I met two Italian guys that visit Pattaya 2 or 3 times a year and never go to go-go bars. I spent a couple of evenings with them because they were fun, so I had a break from my routine and could see other people's habits: we walked on beach road maybe 3 or 4 times its entire length from soi 6 to walking street before we could find someone likeable. It was like 2 or 3 hours with some stops in bars for refreshments. So I ended up tired, wasted my evening and paid 300 or 400 just to stay hydrated. Needless to say, the quality of girls was terrible so I went back alone to my hotel, my legs aching. Compare this to my average evening: I visit 3 or 4 air conditioned bars, have one drink in each one and (optional) pay 2 ladydrinks and 1 barfine. In "worst" (LOL) case total damage is like 1200 baht (plus the short/long time fee). Well I am very happy to pay the extra 800 and the extra 1. 000 to the girl, given the differences I mentioned. The two guys always found someone they like. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as you know, so good luck to them but after this experience I will stick to my go-gos for life. The beauty of Pattaya is that anybody can find his match with a little patience: if you have more patience and energy than I have you'll probably save some hundred baht per evening and also find a nice companion. Not sure though.

Discos: Lucifer, Insomnia. Your impressions are 100% correct IMHO. If you are young and good looking, and you like horrible music and dark, crowded places you may save some money and go home with a real beauty but: 1) chances are she is on some sort of drugs. 2) most beauties are not so beautiful when you see them in a normal light. 3) if you plan to pay less than 1. 000 the next morning be prepared for trouble 4) you have to act like a guy in a disco which is. Well you know: we pay to AVOID that!

You may find the occasional go-go girl wandering in a disco at 3 or 4 am (it is NOT a urban legend: one girl from Happy confirmed this just last week, and several others in the past) but they are few and may be really tired (or high, which is worse IMHO).

So how to cut your expenses without giving up quality? Possible solutions

1) Keep walking: not just beach road, but shopping malls, second road, once in a while you'll find a gem. Wear comfortable shoes, do it from noon to midnight, be relaxed, smile and good luck.

2) Go only to go-gos and massage parlours: when you find a girl you like just take her and if you like the experience she will easily see you before or after work in the next days, so another barfine or massage fee is avoided, plus you have a girl you do like. Buy a thai phonecard: the wonderful mobile phone makes easy what in the past was impossible: keep contact with the girls. Girls used to be hostages of their workplace. Not anymore! So use technology to your advantage!

Summing it up, do not expect too much from Pattaya, but don't be negative: you'll certainly have fun once you find your own rhythm and places. I am sure you will enjoy Pattaya next time you go there, as many of us do.

This is just a description of negotiations with a taxi guy to take me to Pattaya from BKK. I always wondered what this would be like, and so I suppose someone else on this board might benefit slightly from this. My next report is the details of what actually happened in Pattaya.

My plan was ambitious - something I was all too aware of as I crafted it. The plan was to get off work at 3pm, then hightail it over to Ekkamai and catch a bus down to Pattaya in time to meet my gogo girl before she goes to work. So if I arrived at 5:30, that would give us two hours before she had to run off to check in at the bar. Then the evening is free for me to recuperate a little, then hit Roxy for round 2 with Om (girl with the superb ass from a few nights ago). As you can see, timing was crucial here - I had to get to Pattaya in time for my girl to get to me before the gogo bar opened, or else I would be stuck with her the whole night.

But work proved itself reliable and ran late, so I got out at 3:50. No way I'm getting to Pattaya by 5:30 now. In fact, we're looking at a 7pm arrival. So I grabbed a taxi down there. I got into a regular BKK meter taxi and told the guy I wanted to go to Pattaya. He chuckled and said something in Thai. Me no understand, and he no speak English. So he pulls out his calculator and types in 1700. I balk, grab the calculator and type in 1000. He laughs long and heartily, and then counters with 1500. I do a Beavis hee-hee, type in 1200 and I say that HE pays the tolls. He is now confused by tolls, so he calls his friend and gives me the phone. His friend asks me how much I want to pay, and I tell him 1200, but he has to pay the tolls. The guy says no. So I said ok, I will pay the tolls, but that's it. The guys says no, 1500. So I say, ok, tell the taxi guy to take me to the BTS - I will go to Ekkamai and take a bus. All of a sudden, 1200 + tolls seems pretty good, so we agree. But he says that this current taxi guy doesn't know his way to Pattaya, and we need to make a switch. So I tell him to be quick, and 10 minutes later I am in a different taxi with a new driver.

This guy seems older and more experienced. He turns to me and starts a new negotiation - how much you say? He hands me a piece of paper and a pen, so I write down the following: 1200 (tolls = 150). He looks at this, mumbles to himself, and counters with the following on the piece of paper: 1300 total. I was about to protest, saying that 1200+tolls comes out to more than 1300, but I agreed. So that was it - 1300 total payment for door-to-door service. It was a little expensive (I know you can get some taxis to go down there for 1000), but given my intense need to copulate, I just let the 300 baht go.

2 hours later, 6:15pm, I was in Pattaya showered and waiting for my girl. To Be Continued.
