I saw that Houston had a Grupo Senda station so I rode took the route the overnight route 8:00 pm to 7:00 am. I tried slept overnight and like you described the bus stopped at the Aduana bridge. I arrived to Monterrey a few hours there after. Pretty simple. I was only there for a weekend so Friday Night I saw a regular and Saturday I hit the local strip clubs. One thing about Monterrey I like over other places is all the different ways I can travel. Other places is just plane and that's it. Now some times I may fly to Monterrey. Other times I may drive to Laredo, Other times I may catch the bus the entire trip.

Post hobby sticker shock: retrieving car 3 days later was almost $70.
(And I thought I threw a fit when McAllen went up from $5/ day to $8/ day).
Personally, lately, I drice to the Nuevo side I've been making lame excuse repairs/oil changes on my car not so the mecanico can fix it but so the mecanico can fix it and I don't have to pay for parking.
High possibility I'll be in MTY Wed Aug 4 thru either Fri 6 or Sun 8.
Been swamped with life haven't really thought out how to make most of this getaway.

Do these long range buses into MEX from TX have lie flat or nearly lie flat seats where can take a Zolpi and just conk out comfortably?

One thing for a plane that gets you there pronto or an actual train with sleep cars. Lie-flat is only economically viable if bus is double decker, and those only exist on certain routes in Central and South America, including one carrier Transpais that has a station in Monterrey. Double deckers flourish with minimal turns / twists, no strong winds and routes with max clearance overpasses.

The chair does not go all the way back in a lying position as the other person asked but it does lean back and the seats on the Grupo Senda bus are very comfortable. I plan to continue house this method of transportation along with the others available.
I can afford to fly down since I don't go very often however with with still negative test requirement to get back into sex prison I don't want any complications since still in a W-2 job. I'm hoping that for those fully vaccinated the negative test will end soon. Could still get a minor case and have to be Quarantined and costly $ as well as missing work 2 weeks. May not have job when I got back. Just 1 - 3.5 years +/- to where I can justify exiting a W-2 job.
I know GDL has new restrictions put in place. Has Monterrey shut down clubs and put restrictions and curfews in place? Also, when I drive back across the border, how do I receive the $400.00 deposit I gave the Mexican driving authority. Do I have to stop at the place where I applied for my Mexican Driving Permit to receive the refund or can I apply for it online once back in the USA?

1.) Not sure about curfews, wasn't paying attention but most eateries / stores close by 9 pm /10 pm anyways. Masks are being worn out in public and authorities are on the lookout. (More as a reminder, not an automatic take down).
I did notice restaurant and hotel lobby seating has reintroduced the 50% capacity rules which kinda sucks.
2.) No online nothing. You need to physically drive your vehicle to the CITEV office building of the border town of your choice (Reynosa, Matamoros, Nuevo Laredo, Piedra Negras, Nogales, etc) bring paperwork and surrender windshield sticker to get the $400 charged back onto your credit card. I think most offices run 6 am-10 pm.
