Your reading skills are extremely poor. I did not say to "go to the driver side window to commence negotiations. " I said get in, get out, pay the correct amount, and leave. And yeah, if they want to call the cops that's fine, because a) I am not going to stick around and b) I'm right. And fuck no, I'm not going to argue with him. I'm going to hand him the money and leave and if he were to try to physically stop me, he would get hurt.
Again, negotiation is unnecessary and the panamaneos certainly aren't doing it, except maybe the special ones Biff Dangler claims to have talked to. Biff Dangler seems to think that by giving the correct fare, you are giving "vastly less than expected. " I don't think that is true. They might HOPE you are a stupid gringo, but they don't EXPECT it.
Point 1: I never said that Panamanians negotiate (or certainly not on short trips, they certainly do to airport and such).
Point 2: If you are a Panamanian and you give the correct fare, you are not giving less than expected.
Point 3: If you are a gringo and giving the correct fare, I think you are giving less than expected. This is why I simply tell them the price in advance. For anywhere nearby I tell them two dollars. Sometimes I walk away if they don't agree and sometimes I don't depending on what I feel like.
However, the fact is that if you are leaving Casco at midnight and you say two dollars to one of these guys and insist on it they will say no and drive away if you don't negotiate. So clearly they expect more or else they wouldn't drive away.
So now the decision is "Do I get in (and mind you I've been drinking) and go to my apartment which is not on a busy and well lit street, and then get out and give the guy two dollars and tell him to fuck off? Bear in mind, there is a good chance the Taxi driver has been drinking as well.
I've spent a lot of time in a lot of unsafe places (including Africa) and I think I have some pretty good survival skills. Pissing off taxi drivers at night when I have been drinking is something I am just not going to do.
Now, I apologize if I missed this earlier but have you been using this technique? For how long?
EDIT TO ADD: Again, however, thank you for the information. I will try it sometime during the day in a few days and see how it goes. I am open to the idea that you are 100% right and I am 100% wrong on this.
This is supposed to be a vacation. Enjoy it and don't create un needed stresses and issues over a few dollars at least that's my philosiphy.
Yeah, well, maybe for you it's a vacation but I live in Central America so I can't really put up with bullshit gringo pricing in the long run. And I'm not "stressed out" about dealing with some cab driver. It ain't my first rodeo.

I am open to the idea that you are 100% right and I am 100% wrong on this.
I only took two cabs while I was in PTY, other than the one at the airport (I believe I described the technique I used there for $15) and yes, I got in, said nothing, got out, and gave them two dollars. Both rides were between Zones 3 and 4, one in one direction and one in the other. Other than that, I used the Metro which is a hell of a good deal. But I don't drink much any more and even less so when I go out mongering at night (I'm more of a day time guy) so drunk is not a huge factor nowadays. The other good thing is if you're sober, you can tell if the taxista is not. My guess that you would be more likely to find a drunk driver if you take one of those "special" cabs you guys were talking about. I usually try to get an older taxista whenever possible as they tend to drive more conservatively.
Also, I don't recommend telling them to "fuck off" as part of the routine. And, there is a slight night time surcharge so $2 at night would basically be zero tip. I think it's 1,90 at night for one zone to the next. So $2,50 would probably be my payment.
One of the many things I prefer about Costa Rica over Panama is that the cabs have meters. Of course, the cabs here in Costa Rica are quite a bit more expensive than in Panama. In fact everything in Costa Rica is a lot more expensive except rent and pussy, which are about the same. I don't like PTY because of the climate and normally only stay there two days at a time to get from one place to another, rest up from what's typically an overnight flight, knock off a piece of ass or two, and proceed to a higher elevation and cooler location. That's why I never bothered to find the rumored map until now. I'll be in and out of PTY two more times this year, so I figured it was worth the trouble.
You're welcome.

From my experience they will always want to charge more during rush hour, while its raining, and if you have a girl with you. Obviously they are looking to spot foreigners to charge more as well. Being a foreigner and getting a taxi under these circumstances, they will absolutely want to charge you more.
A handful of times I had my headphones in, never actually talked to the driver except to tell him my destination, then handed him $3 and hopped out. There is no way this would work all the time, as some of the drivers are stubborn dickheads. They may try to cause a ruckus, but I guess its up to you on what to do then. If I just jumped out with my headphones on, I kinda doubt they would get out and chase me down for a few bucks. On the other hand, if your in Panama a lot, do you want to use this method every day and risk it?

Bocatorena
Visited la Bocatorena the other day and there is some new snatch there. If you are into cheap pussy and have no problem busting a nut within 10 to 15 minutes this is your place my friend. I first went for a small girl with a huge ass she usually stands by the door that leads to the rooms. She sucks a mean dick and let me suck her tits too, she climbed on top of me and jumped on my dick as if her life depended on it. I then told her to turn around put her ass way up as I dick her down in a hardcore fashion. She turned around and said "uy papi estas arrecho o que"(Are you horny or what) I told her yes and to suck me off again, she did. She put her ass way up again and within seconds I blasted. Cleaned up with some paper towel as she took a [CodeWord140] (they all do this before or after).
I then had a few drinks and grabbed a black chick that had an ass bigger than two basketballs put together. Her blowjob sucked and had my dick disappointed so I helped myself and then had her sit on me with her xxxl ass. She got tired fast so I had to put her in doggy style and drilled her as if I had 5 minutes left to live. Came in her hard and then cleaned up as she took a [CodeWord140].
I had now spent 30 $ and dick down 2 chicks. I looked for a third one and then a fourth one before I left and grabbed a taxi. I've said this before and I'l say it again. Do not worry about going to this place if you are a gringo. Nothing will happen to you. You might feel awkward when you walk in because you will get a view stares but there is nothing to worry about just do what you came there for.
On the other hand, if your in Panama a lot, do you want to use this method every day and risk it?
Risk what? They aren't going to call the cops. If they do, the cops aren't going to come. If they do come, I am in the right. So yes, I will use this method all the time. I'll be there again in May and will report back. Of course, with the metro, I won't be using cabs nearly as frequently.
Now suppose they do call the cops, and the cops do come, and do think I'm wrong. What will the cop do? Make me pay the dumbass gringo price. Plus that assumes I am still anywhere in the neighborhood by the time they get there, which I wouldn't be. So again, what am I risking? Maybe for someone who doesn't speak Spanish, any contact with the police is very frightening. I'm not worried about it. At all.
Now, anywhere in the world, if I am staying in a hotel or an apartment, and I take a cab, I don't give the address or hotel name, but just the intersection. I learned that the hard way in Colombia.

It sounds like you have hardly used taxis in PTY, so please report back after you actually have.

Behind Bocatorena

The other day I walked all the way down via Espana onto avenue central all the way to where it ends in casco. This was during a week day. There were a bunch of bomb-ass bars at the top of the hill and to the left if you walk up the hill from white lion. They were loud and fully happening at 2 pm on a Monday or Tuesday. I then walked down towards Bocatorena. If you are looking at bocatorena I took the street down to the left. There are 5-6 seedy bars with girls standing out front.
I didn't go in any of them because I was with a guy I am not sure is into this sort of thing and, frankly, it was all pretty sketchy. Anyone ever been in these places?
One noticeable thing is that to the right a little ways down the street there is an alley with a locked gate. If you look down it a bit (so the equivalent of being behind La Mayor) there was some sort of cheap working girl picnic party going on. I couldn't find anyway to access this back alley.
Also, I eventually made my way towards Avenue be and was walking to the 5 de mayo metro station. At some point to the left off of avenue be a 2 or 3 blocks before 5 de mayo was a street that from the signs appeared to be all *houses and / or bars with working girls. Anyone know what I am talking about? Has anyone been there?
I would not have done this during the day, FYI.

Great Visit to PTY
Another great visit to PTY. Went to the electronic music festival this past weekend with my buddy and invited a few Colombians with us. I made some great contacts and found alternative chica friendly hotels besides the Venettto.
The girls tell me that the Trump is chica friendly. I did not stay there however I will next time due to my love and hate for the Veneto. I did stay one night at the Marriott and had no issues bringing Her with but then again I speak Spanish and the girl and I were seen walking in together and I did register one of my girlfriends names at the desk during check in.
Same hot spots, went to LE Palace just to show my buddy what he could have for 500+.
Went to Habanos to see if anything sparked my attention, and if no results ended at the Veneto where I could always find something to go up to my room with.
Great time full of GFE's. Got lots of numbers and a solid chica for my next trip back. Will be back before my trip to Costa Rica that's for sure.

My policy of being dropped off elsewhere stems from a problem with a taxista in Medellin who switched out a counterfeit bill on me, and had I been following this policy I would have avoided a lot of hassle. In general, the fewer people who know where I am staying the better, and I do this in Anytown USA now, for that matter. Cuts down on crazed hookers waiting in your hotel lobby as well. Had that happen, too.

Map
I saw someone had mentioned a "rumored map". I never could find one so decided to make my own after a visit or two to Panama City a couple years ago. Unfortunately I've not been back to Panama in almost a year to do any updates but the main attractions should still be current. Panama City is pretty simple to navigate but this should help some fellow travelers.
Besides the Trump hotel, what are some other chica friendly hotels?
Hi guys,
Based on my own experience, I can recommend the Marriott Courtyard and the Hilton in Balbia Ave.
I had no problem going upstairs.
