What is "the real thailand"?
It's lots of things.
If you've eaten som tam and sticky rice with a roasted chicken quarter on a train, thats part of it.
If you've eaten dung beetles fried in home-made palm oil and coarse salt in a knobby wok over a tiny charcoal fire in a rustic little ceramic stove that you and some village kids spent all morning collecting from piles of nearly decomposed water buffalo dung with cold rice and your fingers as silverware you have been there.
Watching the moon set over a tiny pond half covered with gorgeously opened lillies in the mountains while you drink rice moonshine and eat dried fish and fresh papaya is another example.
The fireworks at Suhothai on the night of Loi Krathong is in there.
Watching some Thai guys beat the living shit out of an odious, obnoxious farang thug who is twice as big as the largest of them and who truly deserves it is not too far from it.
Being the only farang at a huge regional fair and being adopted by some locals, and eating and drinking and visiting the local brothel for a shag from a beautiful farm girl in a tiny cubicle while your new friends do the same on the other side of the cardboard walls for 200 baht could qualify.
Crying as you watch an impoverished child die of malaria before you and his mom who you just met at the bus station who couldn't afford the fare so you voluteered to help her get him to the hospital counts.
Realizing, with delight, that the the three little bumps next to the kwai lounging in the muddy water are the eyes and nose of her newborn calf is part of it.
It's lots of things, Amjeck.
Peppermint:
Got here about 9:00 and every seat was taken. Ended up in the corner where I couldn't really see anything or get much of an experience. Took a walk to the bathroom and it looked like a lot of girls were working, some of them cute. The waiters are all guys for some reason, most probably gay, which isn't too enjoyable. Would like to try again. Maybe I need to show up at dinnertime?
Lollipop:
Only about 10-15 girls. 2 of them were cute enough to barfine. Mamasan is only 32 and was pretty cool to talk to. But when I asked for a girl who was dancing, I guess there weren't enough other girls to take her place, so I had to sit there and wait about 10 minutes or more until she finished dancing. When she finally sat down, she was bouncing all over in her chair and couldn't sit still. Seemed like she was on something maybe. So I left without her.
Airport club:
First of all, the waitresses are really hot. More so than the dancers. But they seem to know it. I couldn't tell if you can barfine them. Also a lot of fake tits among the dancers. As for the club itself, they try to cram way too much activity into a small space and it gets pretty claustrophobic. A lot of the customers are really douchey, and the staff seems to encourage that for some reason. Groups of drunk bros with their shirts unbuttoned all the way and their big bellies hanging out groping girls and throwing 20 bhats up in the air.
I liked one of the girls and was going to barfine her. The mamasan got involved as negotiator and quoted me 800 bhat for barfine, 300 for a room and 2000 ST for girl. I told her I didn't need a room and got it down to 1200 ST by talking to the girl instead of the mamasan. Was willing to pay the steep barfine, which seemed even steeper since it was 2AM. Handed over the money and the mamasan told me I had to pay the girl's 1200 bhat fee now too. I said no. She wouldn't budge. I appealed to the girl but she went along with it. So I said no again and took my barfine back and told the girl I was going to the discos and got up and left.
Is that really their policy or were they screwing with me? If that is their policy, wtf?
Lucifer's:
Wasn't really my thing. Almost everyone was sitting/standing at tables not mingling too much. Loud bad music. Couldn't find anywhere to hang out and lurk and look for a girl I wanted.
Insomnia/IU club (?) -- 2nd floor:
Lots of cute girls here from about 3AM to 5AM. Many of them gogo girls. No cover, no barfine. I ended up leaving with a girl from Baccara.

Can do a few of these things in Pattaya for sure. I'm not trying to suggest that there isn't more to Thailand outside of Pattaya, however. There is of course. The reality, though, is that Pattaya does represent "real thailand". It is one of the parts where the worst and ugliest of thais tend to congregate, but it is "real". It's a place where Thais really show their true colors. They're not hiding so much behind their smiles like they do in other parts of the country.

1. I am not ageist, I would criticise younger people who couldn't be bothered to make the slightest effort in terms of personal hygiene and appearance and generally are an eyesore to anyone who is unfortunate enough to pass by...
A bigger eyesore is to see a farang spoil his bottom feeder to nice restaurants, shopping, gold shops, etc. Treating dirt like it's gold is really disturbing.

I'd rather treat what you call "bottom feeders" as a human being as I get more mileage that way.
And I have a pretty basic rule... any girl that spends two weeks or more with me (while I'm still banging short time and they stay at home or they come over after / before work for free fucks etc...) or repeats multiple trips for multiple days each trip gets a token of appreciation above and beyond.
I don't put them on a pedestal but since I'm no saint I sure have no right to judge them and treat them like a bottom feeder.

I think the barfines have gotten ridiculous. And paying up front - I've seen it happen at other go gos too. Maybe the girls have gotten screwed out of money too many times. One scenario that comes to mind is if a guy explains what he wants and she says yes, but then in the room is 'too tired' or changes her mind and won't do it, I'm sure some guys have kicked them out with no dough.

I'm willing to bet that guys get screwed over a lot more than girls do. The girls are the professionals that do this every day and have their whole acts and routines perfected. Most guys are just bumbling idiots on a vacation trying to have fun.
No way I'm paying a hefty barfine and then upfront for the girl on top of that.

Yah, you should never pay upfront at a gogo. I think you were trying to be scammed. Airport is a pretty cut throat gogo. You gotta play really hard and stand your ground at that place.
I think you were trying to be scammed.
Actually he was trying NOT to be scammed.

Personally ---------- I would never negotiate with Mamasam, it is none of her business how much I pay the girl or when I pay her, it is only her job to get the barfine.

'Dirt'? Maybe this country just isn't the place for you. Or maybe you're too good a person for this hobby?

Bottom feeders= 95% of the girls in pattaya (not thailand) working as pros. They are rude, obnoxious, loud, poor mannered, and spoiled. They are only good for hit and run, yet you see guys dumping excess cash on them and treating them like they are precious.
Lets not forget that these girls can't score good thai men, so they service the tourists. Where in society do they fit? Bottom.
Again seeing guys overly spoil these bottom feeders is more of an eyesore than old guys drinking on the beach!
I think lavishing working girls whom you're already paying their going rate with expensive gifts and tips is equally as reprehensible as treating them like "bottom feeders".
Obviously many of the guys taking home some of these girls have never been with a girl as attractive as that before, and it makes them bonkers and they don't know how to act and start throwing money at them. Other guys have been hurt by women before and haven't gotten over it and so walk around wanting to treat prostitutes like garbage.
Both of these extremes ruin many good girls and give them a jaded attitude.
Happy:
Decent bar. They were actually playing some really good house music instead of the standard lady gaga/black eyed peas 10 song playlist. It really seemed to perk everyone up, and a lot of the girls were genuinely dancing and having a good time. One thing I did notice when I looked around is that I didn't spot a single bargirl sitting with a guy. It was just a sea of guys staring at the stage. I took one of the cuter girls out of here. Rotten pussy stink but she was a good girl.
