It just occured to me that my response to a PM I received might be of use to forum readers.

QUESTION:

Greetings-

I enjoyed your photos and would like your opinion of the Woodlands. Was it guest friendly? Looks nice. How was the location for access to the bars?

I have never made it to Pattaya but always stay at the SGS, Westin or Jasmine when in BKK.


ANSWER:

Woodlands - Some mongers have had trouble there in the past, but I have not. I have stayed there 3 times in the last 4 years, for about a week each time. I didn't bring in a girl every night but probably 4 - 5 times per week. When I did it was usually later at night (11-12) when not too many people were around. I don't know it this makes a difference or not. The front desk clerk will check / keep her I.D., then, check that I had paid for double occupancy.

I have never been charged a joiner fee.

I have heard that joiner fee problems have happened when people pay low rates via the internet for some hotels. I booked via walk in to the front desk this last time because no rooms were available via the internet.

It's a nice place so if she is dressed well enough you probably won't have any trouble.

As with any hotel, if you check in with your BG, then no trouble at all. Get her a room key if she ventures out by herself. All the rooms at Woodlands have in room safes so lock up your valuables then no worries. It was big enough to hold my laptop.

Woodlands is away from most of the action - it's in North Pattaya. There are some beer bars across the street but most of the action is on beach road Pattaya Sai 2 road and the soi's running between them. Take the Baht Bus to the action. It is a short walk to the bus stop and a cheap 5-10 min ride. (10 baht)

I'll arrive Pattaya in a week and wonder which of the two is better.

I notice that both of them are in the middle of the action but got the impression ( from the posts ) that the Sunshine is a bit old...

Any suggestion ?

I would definitely prefer the Areca Lodge. Rooms are nicer and well maintained, it's clean, nice staff and good location. You should also consider the LK Metropole which is just across the street and my absolute favourite.

Was wondering, any Pattaya hotels with free in room internet?

I understand both the Pentouse and the Vault offer this, but are there any others?

My ideal option is a hotel which offers free in room internet and a swimming pool!!

Another question, LK Mansions seems to be very well priced. Any reports of staying there? And off course the main question, is it guest friendly?

The LK Metropole is 100% girl-friendly, otherwise I wouldn't have recommended it, so no need to worry.

yep, I know that they also run the Mansion and the Pavillon but since I just mentioned the LK Metropole in the post before yours I thought you were mixing them up.

Nevertheless, all LK are guest friendly.

yes it is girl-friendly. Sometimes - seems to depend on staff - they might ask for the ID of your "lady of the night", but this is just for your protection.

Ok thanks for that. Fancy a place with a pool for my next trip thats why I liked the look of the Areca. Plus its central location. Any other recommendations?
