Salvador Clubs Geography/Oceanside hotels
From the posts I have been reading, a number of the good clubs to visit in Salvador are supposed to be in the oceanside part of town. Ones mentioned are Santissimo Bahia, Relexnight, Eros, Free Night VIP and Aeroclub. Just wondering, is that in the northern part of Salvador, a little south of the airport? Or can anyone explain which geographic part of Salvador they are in?
I went to Salvador once for three days in 2003 and stayed in Barra (the southern part - is that bayside?) because I heard it was safer. But I found out the northern part of town had most of the the good monger clubs and they were far away and too expensive by taxi. I didn't want to take a long bus ride at nite to go there, and return back to Barra by bus even later, so I didn't go to them and stayed in Barra all three days. So if these clubs are in the northern part of town, can anyone recommend hotels in that northern or oceanside area, so I don't have to spend too much on taxis to get to the clubs? You can PM me if you want. Thanks.
Names of Neighborhoods Near Monger Bars
I've been checking maps, and Salvador is a big place! I checked the Mecure and Ibis Hotels and they are in Rio Vermelho, which is straight east of Barra. I can ask a taxi driver at the airport to take me to a hotel in a neighborhood not far from where the action is.
What are the names of neighborhoods that have a few of these monger bars and clubs, etc. such as Free Night, Eros, VIP, Aeroclube, etc? Or I can stay at a different neighborhood that is a short taxi ride away.
My Frommer's 2008 guidebook mentioned some oceanside neighborhoods such as
Ondina, Vermelho, Amaralina, Pituba, Costa Azul, Pituacu, Piata, Itapua, and Stella Maris. (Stella Maris is supposed to by the airport.) Which neighborhood(s) should I ask the taxi driver to take me to for a hotel to stay at while in Salvador? A hotel not too far from monger areas (bars, clubs, SWs, or even shopping centers with freelancers etc.) Thanks.
