DW[/QUOTE]I lived in Pereira for a year and i used to traval by bus to Medellin. The scenery is beautiful through the Andes and countryside. Before you travel by bus it is important to ask the locals about any reported activity with Las FARC and ELN left-wing guerrella groups down there. Gringos are very valuable to those pukes!

To Dirty Willy. I took the bus from Medellin to Pereira and back in March. It took 5 hours each way. The bus company was Occidente. It was a Mercedes Benz built bus that was pretty comfortable.

Had a bathroom in the back. After about 3 hours it stops in a small town for a 20 min. Break. The station had food and drinks and was a nice place to rest, they were playing good old rock and roll on the loud speaker.

I needed that break because it was getting a little boring.

The bus leaves from Terminal del Sur in Medellin.

On Sat night me and a new guest Xxnegrito took a tour of el Centro strip clubs. We went to Las Americas, Maracibo, Ejectivo, and Conejitas. The last one had the best selections and my amigo took a very pretty girl for 50K plus 10K for the room. He told me she had a lot of rules so he really did not have that great of a session.

Slam, you don't know what your talking about, 99% of colombians use the bus system, also nearlly all of Colombia use the road system for their frieght. It is perfecly safe to use the bus system.

The route you use from Medelln to Manizales, Pereira and onto Armenia is the main north-south highway "Pan americana"

Its when you get onto the third level of road system that you "may" run into a road block or two!

I've driven over three quarters of Colombia over 8 years and never had any incidents and I know people " gringo's" who have driven more than me on third tier roads and even bush tracks and never had any incidents

I had some time open up and was thinking of doing a 4 night trip to Medellin, starting this Thursday or Friday. Based on the national election on Sunday and the closing of many venues, would it be best to postpone the trip for another time? Never been to Medellin, btw.

Always travel during the day. However, there are places you shouldn't travel by any time. You'll probably need to get a local to tell you if it's safe. Like you said, it is a bit of a risk.

I would cancel this weekend since it is the 2010 Presidential Elections in Colombia no alcohal to be sold 6pm 5/28-5/31 6am. Read my post from my trip in March 2010 when it was their Senator elections around the country.

It is not the "Is it safe" thing I truly care about, it's the petty theft or risk of petty theft, the dusty-bumpy ride, no bathroom, hot, long bus ride. I hate them and will never do it again in any South American Country.

stopped by sexy mp for a quick peek, i was on a tight schedule. the lineup was not as good as my last visit in february but still decent,apprx. 9 women working in the late a.m. over half were doable(6-7 range). i did see a few i want to return to session with. still worth a visit gents.

What will this Ley Seca mean for the Parque LLeras area? Will all the bars/discos be closed, or just serving non-alcoholic beverages? Anyone been down there during one of these times and can give some inside info?

A smart thing to do (my experience with the "dry" rule) is to buy whatever drinks you need to buy on Friday afternoon (before 6) at your regular supermarket or liquor store, and just have a house party at home or wherever you're staying.

In fact, if you already have some kind of amiga, she'll most probably be bored to death too and find an invitation for some drinks at your place better than staying home, whatching TV.

Don't go out after drinking, though. People caught drunk on the street can be taken to a police station overnight. But then again, this might also prove to be a good excuse to ask a girl to stay overnight.
