Right now I think there are real bargains for Grand MERCURE Asoke Residence in Soi 19 (in addition to Silq etc.). It seems currently to be a safe distance from the Asoke gathering. Free upgrade to Junior suite (more than 3 nights) incl B / F 1560 on Wotif. That is 85 Sq. M including kitchen. That is an unbeatable deal. Other than location, it kills the Majestic Grande right now. I might even move there myself. Don't get me wrong. I do like Majestic Grande okay.

I checked websites to see if there are any deals to sweeten the risk of staying in the area near Soi Cowboy.
But could not find any discount at all on Admiral Premier or Citadines 23 prices. I can't beleive it is business as usual for these two with a major protest going on a few hundred feet away.
If anyone sees a deal for any hotel in this area please do post the info here.

The pool area is very nice and the men's locker area is terrific with hot and cool pools, sauna, and steam room. Nightly turn down service with fresh ice and fruit everyday. I also like how they only allow two taxi companies to pick up and tag the cars with note of the taxi nmbr in case you have any problems. Anyway, sure the other places are nice as well and a better deal, but I can confidently recommend the JW.
The food was always great too, but again not cheap. The bakery on first floor is terrific and has decent pricing. Also first time I stayed went to dinner with a buddy to the steak place and was one of the best steaks I have had anywhere. Luckily my buddy was an expat there and had a card that gave us a serious discount on the bill.

I first stayed in Admiral premier years ago when it was a somewhat unknown Hotel. It had very good prices back then. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. This hotel has become very popular. Its a good location in a way. Close to Cowboy but not too damn close. Its still a bit removed from the demonstration and not too close to Abhisit's house. Many Japanese guys are living there permanently. Tour bus loads like to stay there these days. They are just too well utilised an popular to drop their prices. I used to love to turn up there at night with 3 girls from Suzie Wong on my arm. LOL Now they have the gall to charge higher prices despite their pokey little bathrooms. LOL Good kitchette though. I always thought Citadines 23 was a bit over-priced too and did not like various aspects including the hard beds and staff, but I recall was one of Wolven-fucked (LOL. Sorry just can't remember the exact spelling) favorites.
I am staying in a massive suite (free upgrade) in upper section of Asoke a bit away form the protest area for approx. 1600 Baht per night (Agoda) including all the taxes, B / F, wifi, kitchen, bathroom, lounge, dining area etc. Its not very full here. I still have access to Soi 23 or Soi 19 from here, usually taking a very quick motorbike ride. I am walking distance from the MRT and La Belle Soapy. I am also a quick motor bike ride from Amsterdam soapy. From here very easy to get to Nana or Soi Eden by going along Petchburi and down Soi 3. I have easy getaway to go to the airport. So I am happy with this spot even though its a bit unusual. Tesco Lotus Express nearby. I use motorbike taxi for short trips as it saves a lot of time wastage walking. I walk when plenty of time available as weather is nice.
Here is called Asoke Residence, not "Grand Mercure Asoke Residence".
Breakfast is a bit lacking in variety but coffee is quite drinkable. Admiral Premier breakfast is better. Grand Millenium is vastly better. However here I can cook my own Oats, make my own filtered coffe, stir fry my healthy vegies, meat & fish etc. in the kitchen. Not everyone needs this, but I am moving away from packaged foods, sugar, seed oil (oxidising oils) prepared foods, etc. Hope to have excellent health in my old age, specially wishing to avoid Alzheimer's, Cancers, clogged arteries etc., not mention many kilos lost. Hamburgers are not the "real" junk food. Still like a good burger at @Corner on Soi 23 end of cowboy, but I don't order anything deep-fried anymore as don't know what oils they use.
My drink options in a bar are very limited. Plain water is the very best for your health.

I have had my Sakaeo lady call around to some of the Sukhumvit hotels (such as Sofitel and S15). No one is dealing. Centara Central World and Lad Praoe have good deals.
I am dropping into BKK for a week from Red territory and will be in the GM. Aside from popping for a one night in a suite in Sofitel. The anesthesia nurse will be in heaven.

The Soi is a bit jammed up, but usable.
Here is even better price for such a large suite. Don't like the Centara location (nor Lat Phrao. Awful). Its too busy traffic jammed normally, or blocked around there. Ratchprasong intersection.
Agoda just sent me to say its "Half-price Friday". I guess its too good to be true, and they just mean many places 50% off normal price, which would be far too high anyway. We all probably regularly get 50% off officially and maybe more. Original price means nothing.

I've been wanting to try S15 but its Half Price promo is the same as their website prices. Not a budge down. Same with Sofitel.

Fine but nothing that special from memory. Also tried S31 which was strange with split level rooms. GM is better.
My trip to Suwanaphuum airport this evening was a breeze. Got there in record time without paying any expressway tolls. Of course was a Sunday and departing from Asoke Petchburi intersection, was very easy to get to Rama 9. Election today had no effect on evening traffic. Very quiet. Upper Asoke has been an excellent location for quick access to everything, whether Nana, Eden, Cowboy, Ratchada soapies, MRT or BTS. When lazy to walk any distance take a short motorcycle ride from right outside the Hotel. It is 10 to 15 mins walk from Sukhumvit but < 5 mins on motorcycle even to Nana. I would have been just a few hundred metres north of the Asoke mob boundary at Asoke Residence. Very cheap for very large rooms (after free upgrades).
My issues with the Asoke Residence Hotel (if being really picky) :
* Breakfast a bit basic. Could get Omelette and sausage though. I could easily manage with my own breakfast if wanted to save an extra 100 Baht or so.
* Shower water was either too hot or not warm enough with in between not possible with the single lever. Wash basin was willing to do in between so a bit of a mystery. Probably relates to Hot water auto shut off if flow drops.
* Kitchenette lacked larger sized bowls or any butter knives. Its really normal that kitchen is under stocked after guest thieving or breakage.
Was a giant suite however for basic price of a studio. My first though was that the location was not good, but after trying it, I really have changed my mind about that. Its has helped that Asoke traffic has been so low of course.

Or is there some other 'class' room that's 35 sq m's but considered an upgrade?
