I don't think I've every stuck around long enough to be around when Classico's closes. I take care of most of my leches during the day, so when I hit Classico's I'm only looking for one to two chicas.

I usually start early around 8-9pm at Merengue bar, find a chica, and take her back to the room for ST. By the time I bring her back Classico's is open and I go upstairs. It usually doesn't take me long to spot something I like, so I'm in there no longer than a couple of hours.

The only time I've been on the streets that late was to walk a chica over to Club X because her amigas go there after Classico's closes. This was around 4ish in the morn.

I'm usually in bed before 3am so that I can wake up in time for the free (good ass) breakfast at NG and to also be out of the cleaning lady's way when she comes around.

Plus I like to get first dibs on the A.M. chica parade that comes through NG before all the other mongers wake up, lol.

I have been in the Sosua Police station very early in the morning and saw when they released all the guys and girls they picked up the prior night. I was detained in the Sosua Police station after some crazy light skin santiago chica tried to stab me as she was trying to steal a cell phone from my room. I am as white as white bread.

I have been pulled over and been told to stop my car numerous times by the Dominican police. Part of life in the Dominican Republic, the police can pull you over for nothing. I am nice to them, I chat with them for a few minutes and they let me go. If you want to be nice, you can offer to buy them a beer. The United States Embassy has a 24 hour phone number in the Dominican Republic. I have the phone numbers for the US Embassy in Santo Domingo and its American Citizens Unit, stored in my Dominican cell phone just in case. When I am driving, I usually carry my passport.

this is one battle that i'm glad i'm on the sidelines. the dominicans trying to maintain power, and the haitians marching in strong. this internal struggle has been going on for centuries. one thing about the haitians is they are very strong and determined people, they fight till the end. i used to think it was racism until i examined both sides. the dominicans power structure's survival depends on keeping the feared haitians out. is this wrong? yes. i've heard of domincans using haitians to do their dirty work against dominicans (killings, robberies, [url=http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123][CodeWord123][/url]) then the haitian is the lone fall guy. its all corrupt, no sense of justice or accountability. my best advice is to leave them alone to keep fighting, but always watch my ass.

I stayed at Casa Valeria last May. Its a smaller boutique single story hotel located right next door to NG. They have a small restaraunt and serve a decent bkst. I didn't try lunch/dinner there however. You can walk over to the NG to have a look at the chicas and/or eat at their restaraunt if you prefer. Casa Valeria is guest friendly with a night watchman posted right out front inside their gate. The only rule they had was that you must escort your chica out to the front gate once you were done with her.

Not a Sosua regular, but this sort of thing occurs with GRINGOS of all colors.
Poor dysfunctional society with official corruption at all levels means police corruption at levels hard to comprehend.

This can happen to anyone, especially if they smell money.
Keeping a low profile is wise, not challenging them is another.

Note other posts about white guys getting the same treatment and regarding keeping a number of US official contact on you, just in case.

They don't like Haitians down there plain and simple and Dominican culture is obsessed with the light skin black vs dark skin black thing if you can believe it. I could give a class on this topic so I'll just leave it with 3 common observations:

1) I challenge you to find any dark skinned mannequins in store front windows when you're out shopping down there. The mannequins are almost always white as rice. Check it out!

2) Employment want ads in the local papers there often post job openings for high public visibility such as bank tellers, secretaries, slaes clerks in expensive stores, etc with the words, "buen presencia" or 'good presence'. This is code speak for light skin people only need apply for these positions and everybody knows this.

3) National ID cards or 'ceduals' specify your race just as they often do here in the USA "B" for white, "M" for brown skin, "I" for indian? And "N" for negro (naygrow)or black. Here's the problem with the Indian thing. They were all wiped out by various European white man diseases as well as their failure to adapt to slavery and were exterminated by the 1600's. So. If your baby is born is just a bit too dark skinned you can pay a bribe to have the child classified as Indian. There are NO indians down there, trust me. Now, how fucked up is that.

Go to Amazon and see if you can get a used copy of the book: "Why the Cocks Fight" by a female author with a funny last name like Wunk or something like that. This is an excellent resource on the history of the 2 countries that share the same island and the reasons for their (Dominican) fixation with race and skin color. I'm glad I read it when I did as it really helped me out alot to understand this culture.

Act and walk like an American and keep some sort of document to that effect and they should leave you alone. And leave the expensive gold jewelry and man accessories at home, PLEASE.

You are carrying all the wrong stuff. If you are white and you are out here driving you need to be carrying the police's money. I don't care if you got a lic. and all of your paperwork is straight. If you don't have their money it's a problem.

Just keep an extra 2000 pesos on you as insurance and you won't have any problems.

Good thing that came about from having to report a crime to the police is that I have become friendly with some police officers. I have their phone numbers in my cell. Sometimes I have drinks with the police guys I know and I can always call them if something happens.

Sometimes a small bribe is worth it. First time I was stopped by two guys on a motorcycle who were wearing khaki uniforms, I was argumentative with them. Now I am calm and smile and am polite to them. Last time I was stopped by two young National Police guys, before they could say anything, I said "Yo busco por un caja automatico" sort of like saying I am searching for an ATM machine, at this they realized I had no money on me and there were no ATM machines nearby, but they gave me directions to one that was a bit of a drive away. They were stationed in the street and I doubt they could leave that post to search for an ATM with a gringo. And I really was looking for an ATM machine.

I am a foreigner in their country. I have had a lot fun in Dominican Republic, getting stopped by the police is a minor annoyance that I can live with and one day who knows, I might be carjacked and it might be a good thing if the police stopped the car while the carjacker was in my car. Doesn't pay to argue with them, I am prepared to offer a bribe, just to save the time and headaches.
