If you like sushi there is a really good sushi place about 10 houses/businesses down from the IBIS on the same side. Not cheap, but not expensive, good sushi is hard to find in Brazil unless of course you are in Sampa.

To give you further orientation. The IBIS and the Mercure are next to each other and are situated at the dead end of the street. There is a little beach/rock type place next to the hotel, nice view but not worth spending more than 5 minutes in. Anyway, as you walk toward back out of the dead end street, you will be walking on the right hand side. If you walk past the sushi place you will arrive at a main street. If you go left you will go to the beach which is Rio Vermelho (5 minutes walk and heaps of favela dudes there), if you take a right you will head towards eros etc. There is a McDonalds on the way to Eros, no more than 5 minutes from the hotel if you are desperate for food. Eros on foot would be 20 - 30mins? A bus would get you there in 5.

You can catch a bus to Barra on this main street. It is worth checking out. Most buses stop at a terminal near the Elevator, which is the main attraction of Salvador and seperates the upper city from the lower city. Check out "cidade baixa" a good Brazilian film that is shot in Salavador. I didn't find much action in Salvador, but the scenery is nice.

Good info. So Eros club is pretty close to the Ibis hotel I will be staying at in Rio Vermelho. Any other monger bars or clubs nearby?

Also, besides being a monger, I love a good beach. When I was in Salvador a few years ago I went to a nice beach in the oceanside area (northeast area). The beach was nice, and crowded, but impossible to swim anywhere because of the big rocks. Any nice beaches in the oceanside area where I can swim? (Not Barra). I can take a bus daytime to the beach if I have to, if it is not too far.

My Fommers 2008 guidebook recommends Praia dos Artistas, Praia de Piata, Itapua, Praia de Stella Maris and Flamengo. But he also says some of these beaches are deserted (dangerous?) on weekdays. I'll be traveling alone so that is a concern. Any of these worth visiting and not too far from my hotel?

Any suggestions on bars or beaches would be appreciated, and I'll buy you a drink (or more) if you are in Salvador the last week of November~

Pretty much the greenhorn and going to Barra in Salvador next week for almost a month.

Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Not so much into clubs, very much like the ebony ladies and where would be good places to hang out.

What beaches are good?

And if anyone in town, would love to meet up and explore the scene.

My suggestion. Stay in an apartahotel in Barra because of proximity to various action. Its far from Aeroclubbe Mall and Casquinha, but lots of bars and semi-pro action, plus close to Shopping Barra mall, Pelorinho, and whatnot. The outter beaches are big and nice, but not needed to stay there. I was in Itapoa for 5 nights and got lonely...

If you speak Portuguese, there is p*ssy everywhere. First option...newspaper p*ssy. Lots of places in Centro or Piedade w/20-50R lays...good to meet chicas there to set up night caps. Second, action in Pelo action is real, and lots of takeout action there if you speak Portuguese...pro and semi pro. I never went home alone from there. Third, Aeroclubbe has good pro action in and around on the street at night...and along the road on beach from Pituba out to Patamares and further...at night...the boites have takeout too. Fourth, the real clubs have hot babes...generally snobby rich girls, but good p*ssy options if you speak the language...I had fun at Satellite club one night, and Tropicana club another night. Great memories and great mamories =P

Another option...I enrolled in a language class at Idioma for 2 weeks while there...met lots of Euro b*tches who were open...plus the language school had events and the recepcionista took us to a few local spots where I met true blue Bahia p*ssy...I would recommend this if you're there for 2 weeks or more...attend class from 9 - 12, have lunch, drink and monger all day...repeat. Maceio perfect for this too.

While not as openly crazy as Rio, Salvador has tons of sweet brown and cinammon sugar fellas...dont sleep!

Thanks for the advice. I do speak a little Portuguese and just finished a short course again.

I stayed in Barra by myself for 3 days a few years ago. It was my only time in Salvador. I found Barra to be a little isolated and far from where the famous clubs like VIP, Eros, and others were supposed to be. And taxis were expensive going so far away from Barra all the way to those clubs, so I stayed in Barra and didn't go anywhere.

Someone on a forum recently recommended that I stay at Rio Vermelho, because he said a lot of those famous monger bars are not far from there. So I booked a hotel room there in Rio Vermelho. Hopefully I won't regret it.
Do you think I blew it?

By the way, where is the Patamares area? I read it has some good monger bars, but I couldn't find it on maps in my guidebooks? Hope it is near Rio Vermelho. Also, I think you mentioned you found action in Pelhourino ("Pelo"). Anywhere specific in Pelo, and any specific times?

I agree with Monger3 that Barra is a good place to stay. Rio Vermelho is good if you want to visit all the strip-clubs on the way out towards Aeroclube. Rio Vermelho is also good for non-pro nightlife.

Salvador is good for non-pro's and free-lancing GP's. IMO the strip-clubs in Salvador are a waste of time and money. You'll find hundreds of FL GP's in the Peló area (Sundays and Tuesdays are good, go around 7 PM).

Barra is a good location daytime. You have the Barra and Porto da Barra beach very close by. There are more beautiful beaches in the Salvador area, but these two beaches are always busy with lots of women.

If the weather is bad you can go hunting at Shopping Barra, or take a bus to Aeroclube or Salvador Shopping.

Patamares is located after Aeroclube.

I guess "Pelo" is Pelourinho. There are supposed to be a lot of GPs there. Can anyone tell me specifically where in Pelo? Or should I just walk around the whole area until I find someone?

Pelô is Pelourinho. Located in Centro Histórico.
Just stroll the alleys or sit down at a bar and hords of black GP's will attack you. Seriously, the GP's are very easy to spot and surely they will come up to you and speak.

Go on a Sunday or Tuesday. Sometimes Olodum plays on the big square in Pelô. If you have a desire to loose your wallet just go into the crowd.

Many of the GP's in Pelô are hardcore pro's that can be a bit annoying. IMO it's better to aim for the "semi-pro's".

Olodum is awesome...definitely beware of pickpockets. I always wore long shirts with pockets that buttoned. GPs pro and semi pro...and non-pro...are everywhere...black, brown, branca, all types...sit at a bar, order a drink, and take your pick...

I'll be flying into and spending one day and night this week in Salvador. I only speak a few words of Portuguese. I've been to Rio and Sao Paulo many times. But this is new for me.

I really would just be happy with a massage with sex rather than drag a girl back to the hotel.

We're staying at Stella Maris beach.

I love the daytime termas in Rio de janeiro.

But, is there sometihing like that here?
