Need Help!!
Okay brothers, here's the situation: I'm sneaking away for a weekend in DR (yes, I have an S. O.). She is in a different city (4hrs away). I'm trying to figure out how my cell phone number will show up to her on her cell phone and what message she will get when I don't answer (I. E. Will she get a message in spanish from the local carrier that I'm not available or the English message she gets in the US from AT&T that I'm not available). Basically, I want to see if I'll be giving any indicators while I'm in DR. And, if so, how I can avoid those indicators. Same with texts.
Need an answer quick! I fly out Thursday at 12:30pm. I'd like to do a quick experiment if someone in DR can PM me, we can exchange numbers and call to see what happens.
Thanks in advance!

I think that if your cell phone is being monitored by a DR network (Claro in your case), your "SO" will get a voice message in Spanish if you don't answer. Turn it off before you leave the US to be on the safe side!

We cancelled too.
Due to the recent changes at FOD I reluctantly cancelled my reservations for next week. Originally I was going to keep my reservations as I have plenty of contacts in POP and I usually bring my own sand to the FOD beach anyway. What changed my mind was I found out that they closed the restaurant. The bar is staying open but there are no restaurants close by and that was a deal breaker for me.
So now I am looking for alternative places to stay. Any recommendations on chica friendly condos in POP with at least one restaurant within walking distance?
My wingman and I cancelled out too and will be arriving at BB's a day earlier than planned. The English speaking Dominican manager named "Nelson" responded back with a cryptic message that they don't allow chicas in anymore but you can bring your own in...confusing. Now, no food. Yup, a typical Dominican shit show in the making. What a shame.

How about Harbor View Condos where I live? Dominican Billy is a great cook (breakfast and dinner - normally not midday) and the food and bar prices are cheaper than outside.

Sir Charles,
I contacted Billy before my last trip to check on accommodations for part of that trip. Billy was very prompt in answering some questions I had. I ended up going elsewhere for that portion of the trip, but Harbor View may make a lot of sense for my next time down and I do have some other questions.
You mention Billy cooking, which I didn't know about, are there any other restaurants gentle on a gringo stomach nearby?
Billy said parking a car there is fine and secure, could you elaborate? (I feel kind of pent up if I don't have wheels down there).
Anything else you can think of to add here, please do. A friend of mine is looking at staying in PP and I know he would be interested too.
Thanks in advance,
P

But the last time I went there for dinner he did nothing but insult and embarrass my two girls because one of them was sick and couldn't eat he proceeded to yell at me "I told you you shouldn't bring these fucking girls with you, they are nothing but a pain in the fucking ass" blah, blah, blah. Did I mention that they were sitting three feet from him while he was going off and that they both speak and understand english and I gladly paid for the girls dinner regardless of whether or not she ate it.
No offense Sir Charles,I know Billy is a good friend of yours and I used to like to sit and trade "war" stories with him but his abrasiveness has turned up a notch to the point where I can't stand to be around him anymore.

No other restaurants within comfortable walking distance but several good ones within a ten-minute drive as you say you have a car. Billy has a tiny outdoor bar with space for six max to sit. He offers a variety of meals so you need never repeat a menu unless staying more than two weeks. Given notice he will also come up with "specials" if he is sure that you will be dining that night. He has a reluctance to feed local chicas gringo type meals because they so often waste them. As he clearly is not cooking to make a profit but as a hobby he likes his food to be appreciated.
Usually there is space to park in the well-protected courtyard (space for Billy's guagua plus two cars). If the place is full there is a large and well-protected garage downstairs with space for eight cars. That is fine if you just go in and out once a day but inconvenient if you want to keep parking and removing your car every few hours.
Single bedroom or two bedroom (but sharing one bathroom) may be available.
How come I have acquired a knighthood here?

Sadly, this is fair comment. It's a switchback ride. Funnily enough I added the bit about Billy not liking to feed chicas in my post above before I read your post. It was your party I was thinking of in particular, but I have had my own problems in that respect too.

Dom Billy
Billy Lane ran a 1 star hotel and he himself ran must of the guest off.
When I was at FOD in May it was now a 3 or 4 star service hotel.
The food was better, the rooms were nicer, the girls were better looking and the staff was all working to make the guest happy. Billy's place was never first class. He was the main problem with the hotel, Billy wouldn't know first class if it hit him the back of the head. Sorry to hear about the problems at FOD it was running better than ever. When I read the reports from the last few months I see that others agree with me.
I think if the management can keep up the good service and food they can make a run at it. GOOD LUCK

Hi guys,
This is my first post here in several years. I used to go by darkberrytaster here and on WSA, but couldn't log in under that name, so I registered under a new one. I'm an old friend of Billy's and one of the original investors in the Field Of Dreams.
I was checking out some DR real estate listings today and found this

Billy is trying to sell the 2 condos he owns and the bar/restaurant. Anyone know what's going on? I emailed him, and haven't heard back yet.
BTW, is it a deep dark secret who the "Man Tour" guy is? I'm guessing if he's an expat who has been in Puerto Plata for a while, I probably know him.
I'll be making a report on La Romana soon with some pictures I think you all will enjoy a lot.
Can any one tell me if Jenny's supermarket near Blackbeards will change GBP cash to USD? Or change USD travellers cheques to USD cash?
And does anyone kow if there is an ATM at POP, or Sosua, that gives out USD?
Thanks
Thanks to everyone who has replied.
Helpful info.

Here at BB's right now. BB's might also let you exchange currencies back and forth. Currently the exchange rate is hovering at 37 pesos RD to the USD. Having a great time, bunch of guys here right now, plenty of pussy. Not alot of time to post as I'm enjoying myself. Take care and be safe out there.
