You know, 2 years ago when I was preparing for my first trip to HK, this forum was an awesome source of information.
But, really, the last few months have been very weak. Good thing I know enough about HK so that I don't have to rely on this site before I return.

I don't know if the forum is dead. It will live if we make it live. That said there is of course a decrease of quality, espec. for people like you or me. One of the reasons is that we know now much more about HK as we did 3 or 4 years ago. We got how-to information and sometimes practical assistence on our ways through the roads and bars in HK. So I tried to give something back by writing reports and comments.
Furthermore it is obvious that some of the oldhands are not active in this forum anymore. You can find them in some of the mainland China subforums, in Japan or somewhere else. They move literally. Some of them left our hobby, some lost the interest to write always the same.
Reg. the HK forum most of the information provided during the last years are also valid today. Therefore does it make sense for somebody to write the same stuff again and again? I don't see it.
This forum is for newbies a fantastic source to find out where to go, how to go and what to do. It is a guide to some adventures without too much risk. Because they can find valid information here. But needs of course a little bit of engagement to work through some pages here. They can't find it "at a glance", because there are too many ways of view to the HK scene.
If somebody becomes more familiar with a scene then sometimes his expectations become higher. Sometimes he writes more reports or comments, sometimes he doesn't contribute anymore. It is the usual evolution of community members. And this forum is a kind of community.

This is actually not a question of tolerance but a matter of respecting the laws of Hong Kong which clearly prohibit smoking in bars, restaurants etc. and for my opinion for a good reason. Or do you have the tolerance when drivers ignore the law and zoom through a right light while you are crossing the street?
Let's respect our laws which makes, among many other things, the difference between HK and China.
I enjoy those bars and appreciate that my cloths don't smell anymore like an ashtray when coming home.

Good points all. I think I should add that on my last few visits to HK, I've grown a bit attached to a few of the Wan Chai bar girls. The last thing I'd want to do was to post about them on here. It sounds selfish but I like some of them as people very much and feel a bit protective about them.
I don't think my experience is unique and I wonder if others are feeling the same thing.

What this thread needs is an expertly written summary of the mongering possibilities of Hong Kong i.e bars/walk-ups/freelance/street. It maybe exists, lost amongst the detritus and, if so, I would be grateful if somebody could provide a link.
When I lived in HK in the late eighties/early nineties there used to be a scruffy little TST bar called, I believe, Red Lips. It was staffed by a happy band of superannuated bar girls, all of whom had bus passes. The party trick of one was declaiming bits of Shakespeare to anyone pissed enough to listen. Is it still around?
Hi All,
After my layover report of August I could have the chance to come back to HKG and SZ to visit my little factory.
If you may recall I had scored a indirect hit on a Indo lady I had met in McD on a Sunday am.
This was followed by a little light kino at laguna, then I had to catch a flight back to europe.
So to rekindle things I met up a central on Sunday am and we went out to stanley to the beach and for a stroll and some grub(my its as expensive as in europe there!)
Then later in the day to central and up to the mid level hotel (bishop lei) good value for money and they don't worry about who comes in with you as long as they don't look like tarts.
I won't go into the gruesome detail but lets just way a fun time was had by all and plans are laid out for the return match in March.
Moral of the story=
I am 52 and av looking but attentive and can just about still hold my own horizontally so:
In hk if you look half decent and are indirect you can pick up just about any non wg that you would want and have a fun time for no direct payment.
Thats in my book is jsut about as good as it gets.

Red Lips is still around. 4-5 Philippinas sitting behind a bar asking for some outrageous amounts for takeout. Place is ok to grab a beer and shot the shit with the girls, but not much more. If I had known about the Shakespeare trick it might have been different :-)

Well, I'm in that panic mode where I'm getting ready for my next trip. I go back to HK for business and pleasure next month and I'm budgeting $1500HK per day, some days a little more.
I know from experience that $1K HK for LT is doable but, based upon my trips last Christmas and in May, I think it still requires work. It did for me.
Now, having said that, on previous trips I was really only going to Neptune's, Escape, and Laguna. I think $1K HK LT would certainly be a possibility if I hit Galaxy or New Makati more often and lowered my standards a tiny, tiny bit.
I probably won't go to Neptune's this time as in May it seemed like it was really a business-like environment. Escape is hit-or-miss depending on the crowd and night of the week.
Laguna is reliable but I know too many girls in there and don't want to ruffle any feathers of the ones I don't want see again.

All of the Viet girls I know stay at a place on Lochart between Luard and the MTR. Upstairs from some Thai massage. While waiting outside before for my sweety I would see all kinds of other girls walking past too from east of there.
There were a few nice open to the outside sports bars just west of it, so probably one of those.

Hey all,
Long time since I've been around. I have a 12 hour layover at Hkg; my flight leaves at 1am. I was hoping to hang out in Wanchai since it has been so long for me... I'm guessing I'll need to ve on MTR by 11pm, so I need a couple suggestions.
what is the best bar to go early with hotties? I'm not so interested in bang for the buck so much as amazing eye candy got ST. Every other time I visit I usually don't start til 11pm...
Suggestions for cheap room? last time Empire was about us80 a night; seems it's gone up a lot. Are any of the ST hotels good for 4hrs? (refresh and leave my carry on there). Or a cheap overnighter and I'll just check out same night. Key criteria is obviously short walking distance and cheap.
