I took a night off but I finally went back to Wan Chai last night. For personal reasons, I'm not going to Laguna this trip.

But I did wander around quite a bit near midnight last night. Neptune's II seemed not as busy as last year but full of Vietnamese. If they are anything like they were last year, I'm not interested.

I hit Amazonia. Saw a few freelancers including one or two that would have been good but I was still in the mood to explore.

Based on some recommendations, I hit Boracay and it was surprisingly uncrowded for a Saturday night.

Walked through Escape and it too was crowded but with too many guys and not enough single women.

Feeling a bit bored already, I walked up to New Makati and saw a few lovely Indonesian ladies, including this one girl who I've seen here in bars my last two trips but have never talked to. I am a bit intimidated by how hot she is.

Anyway, I chatted up two girls and took one home for the night $1200HK LT which I talked her down to from her opening $1500HK. As I told her, I'll be here for a few weeks so no sense in tapping the bank out now.

The thing is, if you went to Neptune's II, you'd get an opening quote of $1500HK for ST.

But, hey, Wan Chai is big enough for all of us. If the businessmen want to roll into HK and pay those prices for the Vietnamese girls, so be it.

It didn't take too much effort tonight and for that I'm happy. And New Makati wasn't one of my main haunts last time around.

I called one of my regular Filipino girls last night and now feel depressed.

This girl was a freelancer in the past and could be counted on for $1K HK LT with no problems and now she's got an agent. She's still a sweetie but her mood is decidedly different and now I'm depressed.

She left and went home to the Philippines and had to resort to an agent to get back in. The agent sets up the deal and the girl has to earn the money back first before she can pocket anything herself.

And the agent also keeps track of the girls from the boarding house. More or less locks them out until 5 AM and frisks them when they return; they can't wear certain shoes where they could hide extra money, and so on.

She didn't tell me any of this until we were back here. I was going to pay here just $1500HK, which I gave her last time of my own free will, but I didn't want her to leave and have to go back to the bars for the rest of the night until 5 AM.

So I am planning on giving her $2000HK LT. I know it's crazy high and all that but this is someone I've seen for more than a year on various visits.

I don't think she's such a great actress that she'd give me a sob story just to get an extra $500HK out of me.

I probably won't call her again but, since she's here, I'll help her.

[/quote]don't be mad! the $1, 500 is what they are required by the agent to earn if they go out of the bar. if you pay $2, 000 you are just encouaging the agent. if you don't want her to have to go back to the bar then keep her with you until morning and have another pop before she leaves. the agents are bastards but you are playing into their hands. also there are plenty of hkd$1, 000 girls still around.

i'm not flaming here but maybe you are a bit too soft hearted. i know the filipina's all have sob stories but becoming prostitutes, hookers, working girls, whatever your preferred term, is largely their choice. everyone off them who pays an agent could have instead paid an agency to get them a real job as a domestic helper or some other overses work, even those with without college education. they also don't help themselve in that they never plan, never think ahead. i've known girls come back again and again ****nts but they have a better cell phone than me! they don't think to try and save a little bit so they can get out of the agent trap.

so just try and enjoy your trip. i visited hk six times in the second half of 2010 and had a great time on each occassion and paid between 500 to 1500 lt. you say you are avoiding laguna this time? has it moved location yet as uncle goober reported? it has always been my best hunting ground.

I leave tomorrow for my trip. Are any hotels not girl friendly? I am pretty flexible on the hotel I stay at, as work will be paying. I can always change hotels over the weekend as well. I was thinking of staying at a four seasons or mandarin level hotel. If I bring a girl over, should I change hotels the next day?

Also, any advice on how to have success at a bar? Is there a dress code? Do guys need a pulse and to be polite or do you really have to be adept at picking up girls at a bar to have success. I am talking about Hari's and the like?

I'm not an expert on Hari's but at Wan Chai bars a little politeness and charm goes a long way, believe me.

That said, if you want a hot Vietnamese or African in Neptune's II, the money is more important. And the deal will be sealed much more quickly.

As for the other bars in Wan Chai - not go-go / stripper bars - there's no strict dress code. If you are a white guy, you can coast in. Other races may have to pay a cover or get hassled about clothes. Don't dress like a slob or like you're going to a picnic but don't dress up too much as you will get swarmed as a guy with money to burn.

Try Escape and Neptune's II if you don't want to spend too much time bargaining BUT you may pay much, more more than at other places, especially for a slutty and hot looking Vietnamese girl. Try Amazonia or other places like Mes Amis or Boracay or Laguna or something if you want to chill out and assess the scene first.

Wan Chai has a lot of "normal" pubs too so it's a casual area, as a rule.

I don't think she was lying. And I did keep her here. If I had sent her home early it would only be making her have to go back out to the bars again until 5 AM (we met early last night too).

She said that ever since that bus incident in the Philippines, the HK immigration have been making things difficult for the Filipinos.

My limit is $1500HK LT or a bit less and it's certainly do-able with not too much extra effort.

I'm avoiding Laguna for personal reasons. Nothing major but just a few people I don't want to see again that may be mad at me.

Thanks for the reply. The funny thing is that you guys talk about bargaining at $200-$250 USD for a night and I mongering in London and pay twice that for an hour. But, I don't want to overpay and ruin the market for everyone else. Also, maybe the London outcall girls are highernquality and looks.

The same bouncers that charge non-whites a cover charge are the same ones that prevent the ladyboys from entering the pick-up bars. Some rules are arbitrary and I've walked past poor Indian guys getting hassled for wearing tennis shoes and getting charged a cover while I walk right in w / o paying a cover and wearing sneakers.

I've never seen a ladyboy in one of those bars nor have I heard of a credible report of someone getting one.

There would be such negative reaction from the regulars and staff that I don't think it would happen very often. And the extra attention could draw extra attention from other LE sources. All unwanted things.

That said, I did pick up a girl I had my doubts about last year from Neptune's. But, she was a lady at the time.

I've seen one ladyboy outside of Amazonia trying to charm a westerner. Otherwise, across the street from Amazonia on the corner of Jaffe Road and Luard Road is where they tend to congregate. Since they are not allowed in bars, best thing is not to pick the girls from the streets, but from inside the bars.

Is there any downside to staying in Kowloon? I read some mixed opinions, but wanted to get some more views.

Each has their pros and cons. I have stayed in both areas and like them almost equally although for different reasons. HK Island has Wanchai Bars. 141 hotel reservation girls, Soho, Causeway Bay, great restaurants and perhaps is a little less touristy. Tsim Sha Tsui has Hari's, 37 Dundas, a little better selection of 141 hotel reservation girls (IMHO), great restaurants and a lot of character. I use Hong Kong as my gateway city into and out of South East Asia. For my upcoming trip, I will spend a few days on HK Island before departing for Macau and PI. Upon my triumphant return 40 days later, I will stay in East Tsim Sha Tsui for the last few days on the trip.

I have read your post in the Macau thread and I think you want to stay in the better hotels and are looking for high class attractive girls. If this is the case, then Kowloon may be slightly better for you (Hari's). But it is only a short taxi ride to the Wanchai bars if you don't like what you see in Kowloon. The bottom line is it really will not matter much which side of the harbor you stay on.

Macau is different. The best action is on Macau Peninsula. Your idea to stay at the MGM is sound. Explore Taipa, Cotai, and Coloane in the daytime if you get bored.
