Her smile told you the answer
Found this little gem on Soi 6. Fresh from the farm, no tattoos, nice be* cups, and a really good smile and attitude. BBFS, and she didn't even ask for a tip. After we were done, I had another drink with her at the bar. I paid and told her to keep the change. When she brought it back, I pointed at the money and then at her, trying to show she could keep it.
She didn't take it straight away and started saying something in Thai. To be fair, her English was basically non-existent earlier, when I asked her age, she used a calculator to show me "20" LOL. Anyway, I had no idea what she was saying, so I just took the money out of the folder and put it in her hand. Only then did she smile and keep it.
My question is: when a bar girl brings the change back to the cashier, who usually keeps it? The cashier, the bar, or the girl?
The server gets to keep the tip money and is not required to share it with other staff or in some cases pass it along to the owner of the venue when you take it out of the folder and put it in her or his hand. If the server standing in front of me when I get my change back is the one who did all or most of the work I always put the tip in her hand and it always elicits a smile and a thank you.
