You might want to try the Philippines, where there's still enough Latin influence that it'll feel more familiar.

It sounds like you may have found the connection you were looking for, with that massage girl.

The first time I visited Thailand, I was always seeking out the stunners, but had more bad, than good experiences. I did have a few Model types that were fun, but more often than not, the sex was mechanical.

Later on, I became good friends with a forum member, The Traveler, who helped me see the value in carefully evaluating the girls attitude.

I believe scooping a good looking, easy going girl will give you a better chance of having a great night fun, than searching for a Model type, which often have a bad attitude.

1) As you may already suspect, the answer is NO to standard scoring as everyone looks at the same lady differently. Some like them thin while others like a little more flesh, some like light skin and other darker etc etc.

Case in point: I recently came back from a mongering vacation with fellow ISG member Phantomtiger (PT). There was one lady I thought was a 8.5 but PT didn't even look at her twice as he simply shrug his shoulders and said she was a 6.
Upside to not agreeing to the same scoring is never having to fight over the same woman.

The simple answer is generally NO as there are 2 charges involved for Soi 6, one for the lady and another for the room, but they always lump the 2 together and comes out to about 700 or more (more if the lady insist on a higher fee for herself), but I said "generally" because it is possible to still get 500b as I've done it when you are a multiple repeat customer and the lady is willing to lower her own rate in the hopes that you keep cumming.
But the overall 500b days of Soi 6 is generally over as this was the avg rate about 2-3years ago.

On Soi 6 itself lately there are some old / ugly / fat girls that will do you for 500 with the room fee added onto that so 800 total or so. But nothing I'd touch.

Most girls will take the 700 plus 300 room fee which is common but some bars are a higher room fee. Which makes it a flat 1000 on average.

The unrest in BKK forced me to change plans to Pattaya so I've been doing a lot of new research from the board. Thanks to those who responded to my earlier post which helped me decide not to cancel the trip.

One thing that I am unsure of....I personally dislike ST rooms - I find them usually rather depressing and in BKK I always take the lady to my hotel... a taxi fare back for her is fine....but I get the impression that this is not the way it is done in Pattaya...I am staying at Tim Hotel which is fairly central I think so would like to avoid ST rooms - likely to be a problem?

Second, Can anyone recommend some bars "off the beaten track" that are worth visiting...so far I have "Gentleman's club" which a friend recommended strongly.

Finally In BKK I just stay away from the bars in Nana that I know are LB bars - but I get the impression that there are far more LB bars in Pattaya? Any strategies for avoiding this part of the nightlife.

I love the idea of a newbie wandering around Pattaya with a map of the LB bars to avoid. For better or worse they are part of the show that is Pattaya. The ones in the bars are not going to be any concern, simply dont go in those bars if you arent interested. Along Walking Street and Beach Road there are particular sections where the LBs tend to congregate. Many of them are over the top and therefore pretty obvious. Others are more sweet and demure and may well fool you for a few minutes.

You don't have to actively avoid LB bars. LBs are everywhere anyway. Like Greg said they are part of the show. If you don't like a bar just don't go in it. Just be sociable. They are regular people. You will see them outside of the bars talking shit and being playful. Just have a good time. It doesn't mean you have to fuck them.
