Westcoast, thanks for your description of the area. That answered a lot of questions I had. I only had to tell the taxi driver to get to the Mango bars and he knew.

Started with the 1700 side of the street, went to the one far left. Vikings. Saw 2-3 absolute knockouts dancing or cuddled up with punters among a sea of average ones. Hung around there for some time, half heartedly motioned a half cutie to come over for a drink. She pointed to the one sitting to her side who pointed back to her, either they were confused or not interested. I lost interest and went to pay my bills when they both came over saying they were confused. I tipped a little to the one I thought I had asked to come over and got out.

Went to the one next to its side, had a drink, didn't find much of interest, got out. One second in and one second out from the one to its side.

Decided to see what the 3000 side of the street looked like. Pappilon (or however it is spelled). Found no difference in quality between both sides of the street. After being there for a few drinks I started to like one of them. Slightly on the bigger side as compared to others and she had the typical filipina appearance. There's a certain filipina look I've come to identity as the traditional filipina appearance and have seen many beauties with that kind of look roaming around in the malls, everywhere. I was looking at her. She looked at me and smiled and looked very much like a hottie I could be found staring at except that she was available for a price. I paid her price. She said she was 20 although she looked more maybe because of her size. She wasn't big in traditional sense mind you, there wasn't a single pound of flesh that was extra, she was just bigger than others around her, about 5' 3" in height.

I've been in Cebu for a week now and the more time I spend here, the more I can't wait to get the hell out of here. Coming from BKK, I feel this is a big step down in every regard, save maybe cost as things are a lot cheaper here than in BKK. I could write a book about all the bad things I have encountered, but I will spare you that. I'm just going to report on a bad experience I had last night.

I've been down with a bad fever at the worst time of the year right on new years', but that's my luck I guess. Anyways, I got scammed last night. I was at Mango square, in front of Beat KTV bar, having drinks with friends on Thursday night, met a beautiful 19 years old outside the clubs, we exchanged # but I was already with another hottie at the time. So I last night, I was finally feeling better and went out a bit, called her and she came right away at Mango square, we had a good time having drinks and chatting (I refrained from alcohol as I was still not 100% back to normal) then we went dancing to the club next door, Juliana. Good time there, so at 3 am, we go to my room. She's as sweet, innocent looking and beautiful as I like them.

Then in the club, we briefly had sex as I was still very tired and all and after that she starts crying saying that her rent is due this week and she doesn't know how to pay it and she's afraid she'll be kicked to the streets. Being the romantic and nice guy I am, I fell for it and asked her how much is her rent and she replies 2K pesos (about 44 bucks / month) , at the time, I only had about 1500 on my wallet so I gave that to her. And she was jumping for joy then she said she had to leave to pay her landlord and would call me later so we can have lunch, hang out and weather permitting, going to the beach.

This is a very pretty girl, like an angel and I fell for her. Then, later a friend I know here comes here and tells me about her and that she's a serial scammer. Just to warn the brothers in here, sooner or later, you will get hit with those sob stories, no matter how pretty the girl is, don't fall for it. I know it's easier said that done, specially when you have that little thing laying naked besides you. A good lesson learned, so be careful about that guys. If anyone goes to Cebu, her name is Rozana, she's short, a few extra pounds, but not fat or anything, extremely pretty and has a nice rack, which is rare for filipinas. So be warned guys.

If anyone knows or can recommend any other good clubs / areas with bars / clubs other than Mango Square, I'd be very interested as this place I feel is filled with scammers. All in all, so far, not very much enjoying this place, maybe it's due to this being my first time and not knowing the good places, so I'm all ears for any suggestions to save my Cebu trip. Much appreciated guys.

On a positive note, got to meet Wicked Roger and a few other guys on Thursday night at Ayala and it was a good time, Roger, you're the man in Cebu! Too bad I've been down with that shitty fever. Can't wait to get better so I can sample that delicious apple.

I agree with Jambo's opinion, your encounter does not really fall into scam terrirtory at all. It is just one of millions of Filipinas who have a hard luck story that 99% of the time ususually involves the need for some extra cash. It sounds like you had a good time with her and I am assuming that you probably would have paid her close to the 1500 you gave her, so you really have lost nothing at all. If you think about it fairly just think how many mongers have lied to her in the past, my guess it will be dozens. Maybe she also told you that you are a handsome man! I am sorry you sound like you are very disappointed with Cebu, I felt a little like that on my first visit there. I have visited Thailand more times than I can count and I speak Thai to a reasonable level where I can have a decent conversation. I don't even try to compare the two countries anymore, although both are in Asia they are as different as chalk and cheese. Cebu does grow on you and as you have pointed out Bangkok is working out a lot more expensive. If you compare the cost of most things (hotels is the exception) then whatever the cost is in pesos, it is usually mirrored by a similar cost in Baht. So for example a girl for long time can cost you 1500 pesos or baht depending on which country you are in. Since I am only getting 45 baht to one UK pound, but get 65 pesos for the same pound, the economics are self evident. I guess if my currency ever strengthens back to its original level a few years ago I might split my time more evenly between the two countries. I do have to say that I love Filipinas though.

Cheers. [/QUOTE]Sprite: This is not a scam. This is typical of how pinay operate. They meet foreigner in public places (mall, bars) , spend 2-3 hours in his room, and ask / hint / beg for money. Sometimes they ask for ridiculously large amounts (or even small amounts). Sometimes they discuss their 'need' in advance in the bar or mall. I've had them ask for 20, 000 pesos. 200 pesos, and even 'up to you sir as I'm desprat to pay me rent'.

Now to the 1500. That's fine. If you were just a few blocks up Mango St at the gogo bars, you would have paid about the same amount (p1700) for a bargirl who would stay LT and boink you twice. But those aren't freelancers. On the other hand, most Cebuanas are happy with 500 for a few hours work, and 1000 for LT. In fact, I've never had a freelancer complain when I hand her 500 for a few hours work, nor have they balked in the mall or bar when discussing the amount in advance.

You might want to try the gogo bars. Also try the disco at Sunflower, on Thurs-Sat night it is jumpin' with talent. Also, Ayala and Robinson's mall are rich with pickups.

Next time (whenever it is) per your advice I am going to negotiate everything right in the bar. These are pros after all. I keep cutting them too much slack and they keep taking advantage.

For locals between 500 to 1000 php. The majority of the females are available for a price after 1:00 am as many are BG. But have to be extra careful and screen them well.
