I am actually very chill. Check out my other posts. I miss Thailand very much because of how chill I find it. Firstly, thanks to everyone for the massive of amount of info I have learned reading through 100's of pages. This forum is an amazing resource and that's due 100% to the effort everyone puts in. It's greatly appreciated.

So there is a great deal right now to scratch something off my bucket list, the world's longest flight (EWR-SIN) in business class. However, the latest dates to get the deal would be Jan 31-Feb 13. I read a ton of LOS news daily and aware of the severity of the current situation. However, reading doesn't always give the true picture of what's going on.

For you guys who are actually on the ground in BKK right now, what's the reality of things starting to get back to normal come Jan of next year? Does that seem overly optimistic? Or perhaps it happens even sooner? I'd love to hear your thoughts based on what you are seeing and hearing everyday. Thanks again for all the awesome advice and entertainment!

I think numbers drop in September / October and providing they can get a high number of the population vaccinated by the end of the year Night life could open Jan 1.

I think they will allow vaccinated tourists some time towards the end of the year, then things get back to normal sometime in mid 2022.

And they all close at 8pm so their staff can get home before the 9pm curfew.

Even if things are re-opening its still going to be not really what you're looking for at that time, take it slowly and evaluate as time goes on. Thailand and SE Asia in general is not doing good right now and it certainly looks like things are pushing more and more back in the timeline to get back to the tourist filled and busy thailand of old. People are getting sick a second time even with the vaccine. The vaccine seems to keep people out of the hospital, but with all the vaccine holdouts and the poor quality of the Chinese vaccine, I don't see it getting better maybe for years. The Spanish flu lasted 3 years in 1917 and that was without all the international travel and the number of variants. COVID also has some strange qualities that make it particularly nasty on other organs outside the lungs. And then there's the long-term effects on some people that the Spanish flu didn't really have outside the lungs. This virus is a monster and we aren't going to fight it properly until we get everyone vaccinated with a good vaccine and then we can manage the small % who still get very sick. Over time, hopefully it will evolve into a weak strain that we get as kids with no problems. Theoretically, that's what should happen.

I think we also have to realize that this is a way for some countries to eradicate the sex tourism industry. There's a lot of money in it, so I'm not sure how it would work, but it's an opportunity to reorganize how these girls are making their money, possibly by developing other sectors of the economy.

Almost all adults in Israel are immunized with the Pfizer vaccine and they are still getting the delta variant. The Pfizer vaccine is judged to be only about 50% effective there against delta. The vaccines keep people out of the hospital for the most part, but delta still spreads. Unless you get a good vaccine to everyone, there will no herd immunity, and even then it won't really be immunity, it will be safety from dying.
