[/QUOTE]I love table gaming in Lima. Quiet tables (play BJ for hours 1 v 1 on a $5 table), lowest limit craps I've seen, and you can always get a slot at the table (every table is $5 or less. The S/5 tables make it like a $2 min bet so 32 across costs like $10-15 LOL). No hassling for tips.

I have heard that Sao Paulo / Rio is good too but I haven't been yet. I also stayed for a bit at the JW Marriott in Miraflores and it was the nicest hotel I've been to in South America, and cheap too like 130 a night. What sports books do you like in Lima? Any idea if they are open right now? I have a ticket to Lima in a few weeks, still not sure if I want to make the trip.

It is on Larco close to the ocean in Mira Flores. It has two parts. The bar in front has the sports book and the building behind it has the horse betting room. The horse room is great. They give you free copy's of the racing form { racing forms cost $12 in the US } and if they see you betting half decent some food is free. Very friendly girls who work there { not hookers }. They use American money for betting.

It's a shame people only treat it as a stepping stone to Machu Picchu (which I'd nominate for the worst food in Latin America).

As I pay restaurants by credit card I only need to look at my credit card reports. All amounts are roughly double compared to what I was spending in Sao Paulo. Real restaurants still functioning, as opposed to fast food outlets, are thin on the ground. Also, Sao Paulo supermarkets put puny Vivanda & co in the shade in terms of quality and quantity.

Sao Paulo hotels had reduced "Covid" breakfasts but in Lima breakfast have undergone a further reduction. Scrambled eggs without cheese or ham, coffee without optional milk, butter only no jam for your bread. Reminds me of the scrimpy breakfasts they served in African hotels pre-Covid.

I can confirm the betting shops and casinos are up and running in Lima. It seems to be the last kind of business they want to restrict here.

If I'm shit scared of Centro in Medellin, there is no fucking way I'm stepping foot anywhere in Brazil.

My Peru contact has convinced me to buy a cheap Smartphone with a secondary SIM for whenever I venture further afield so than my main Smartphone can stay at the hotel. This is the first time I do this but I may stick to the practice on future mongering trips. Uber and taxi apps may be less safe in Peru than in Brazil because in Peru many drivers refuse payment by credit card and credit cards contribute (I think) to traceability.

It is true that Miraflores is safe. Cameras are everwhere. My Peru friend was even scared of disposing of some garbage in a garbage can that didn't belong to where I was staying, lest we could be traced and fined. This has come at a price in terms of nightlife. Calle de las pizzas was closed, allegedly because of prostitution and other illegal activities. Now even back in Fujimori's days Calle de las Pizzas was already no longer a hotbed of sin. The intolerance threshold of local authorities here must have been very low to close such a politically correct venue. If you search for escorts online you will find none advertising Miraflores as their base. Plenty in the far-away and insignificant district of "San Juan de Miraflores" though. I'm quite sure the escorts want clients to understand this means Miraflores. Escorts would probably be breaking the law if they were seen as working from Miraflores because Miraflores is, you see, the cleanest place on Earth. As a result Miraflores' nightlife is deader than Monthy Python's dead parrot.

Vivanda supermarket here systematically swipe customers' credit cards. Swiping is unsafe for the credit card holder. I really think credit card companies should put their foot down on this. Never had my card swiped in Brazil.

The mongering I had in Brazil in the past 3 months was one of my best mongering on record, and that was during Covid. I can't imagine what mongering must be in Brazil in non-Covid times. It probably beats even the German FKKs at their peaks.

I'm comfortable at a chongo as you see what you get, you know what a girls room looks like before you agree to see her. SWs, with having to find a hotel / short-time room etc, is kinda scarey. SWs everywhere, even in a first world country scares me. I've been robbed with SWs in both Australia and the UK. I've never felt unsafe in a chongo.
