For $30 you can take a river cruise, stop at the town for lunch if you want, and then proceed to the lake for a swim if you bring your swimming suit. It takes about an hour from town via Tuk Tuk and much of the trip is in the countryside which is typical of rural Cambodia and is worth the ride if you want to see how 99% of Cambodians live. It was a great ride, a tonic of reality after the high tourist experience of Ankor what. The Tuk Tuk will cost you about $20 to do the trip. If you can find someone to share the ride (the boats hold about 16 people) fine, but I took it alone (with my Tuk Tuk driver). I also had lunch ($5) at the town and then wandered up to the Pagoda and school nearby. I was approached by a insufferably cute 16 whyear old gal speaking good English selling little notebooks and pencils for you to hand out to the elementary school kids. Total rip off moneywise (I think 10 skinny little notebooks were $5 and 10 pencils the same although she gave a discount if you buy a few of them). Handing them out the the squealing little kids who have to buy their own supplies was worth every cent of the deal. I highly recommend you do this. Will remember the experience as much as the temples, and it helps out the kids and the gal who sells you the supplies.

Also, the next day I found a Tuk Tuk driver who said he would take me down the backroads of the countryside for $15. I had a 3PM flight out and met him around 9:30 AM while I was photographing street traffic (you know, the family of 4 on one moped, little kids staring at you while they zoom by) and he said two hours was plenty of time. He took me to the Kro Bei Real Market. On the way he took me down footpaths (on the Tuk Tuk) to visit farm families by the paddies. The ride was a little bumpy but well worth it for those who want to go off the beaten path and be more than a temple tourist. There is actually interesting architecture (the houses along the way). The little kids come out all excited (this is probably the biggest entertainment they have) yelling "Hello, Hello,". I had a wad of 500 and 1000 whatever they call their money notes and handed them out after taking photos of them. Lots of fun. The Kro Bei Real Market is more like a town with a school and was a lot of fun to walk through. I wish I had more time to explore more of the back roads. Everyone very friendly as I am sure they never see tourists out here. I highly recommend this. I'm sure most Tuk Tuk drivers can find it but if not you can call the guy who took me there.
