I mentioned in a previous report that the number of girls and customers was down over Christmas weekend, during this week and will likely be down this coming New Years weekend due to some girls heading to their province for the holidays. But even a down Christmas weekend and last night was not as deserted as that video suggested. Last night about 8:30 pm it was almost impossible to slowly ride a motorbike down Soi Cowboy through the crowd.
There were few empty barstools in those Soi 7 bars for all the girls and customers last night And that was a Wednesday night. In the video, the corner of Sukhumvit and Soi 7 was free and clear. It has not been like that most nights for weeks. By 7:30 pm it is crammed with Tuk Tuks delivering and picking up customers with girls and motorbike riders looking for a place to park.
Actually, there are several more bars open in the past few weeks the video showed were closed. And, unless I missed it, they did not even take a shot of Nana Plaza where the ground level has been one big crowded beer bar for a month or two.
The first description of the video says it is how the area looks at the end of December 2021. But when you expand the description it says the video was taken "November 2021".
Whenever it was, that is not how the area and the bars have looked re girls and customers by around 7:30 - 8 pm on a regular Friday or Saturday night in the past month or two. Not unless there are Covid closures again, which I have not seen as of this Thursday afternoon and early evening.

But things looked pretty dismal to me. Even open bars like Morning Night bar and Stumble are a shadow of their former selves and Cowboy looked dismal. Now I know the main sourcing for good looking girls has shifted to the internet and I am sure I would do alright if I were in Bangkok, but the night life street scene which was once one of the highlights of being in BKK is currently very depressing IMHO and there is not much to look forward after jumping through all the hoops required to get into the country. So, I think I will pass for the foreseeable future. Hopefully things will reopen and get lively again when the Pandemic slides into the Endemic. Hopefully.

However, I wonder how long this party atmosphere in Bangkok can continue with Omicron breathing down the neck of many cities worldwide. In Paris, France, one is now required to wear a mask outside in public and all night clubs remain closed at least to the end of
January. New Years Eve festivities worldwide have been shut down and / or strictly regulated as to crowd size etc.
The current outbreak in Kalasin and Isan is bound to spread. This occurred due to a Thai couple returning from Belgium, testing negative upon entry, and then inadvertently spreading the virus directly or indirectly to an estimated 248 people in that area. The cases developed and expanded because they visited many restaurants and clubs in Isan who were not following proper Covid protocol. In one instance, Covid 19 was discovered in one of the a/c units. It's only a matter of time for it to descend in full force in Bangkok. The end days are near, I suspect for Bangkok, and it's "reopening".

Prior to the predicted "some Nana go-go bars reopening" around the 3rd week of November, which turned out to be true only in that some reopened as beer bars and they reopened a few days later than predicted.
The giveaways in the video for that likely timeframe are, among other things, Big Dogs Bar on Soi 4 at the entrance to Nana Plaza is closed and it has been open daytime and evening for over a month, there was no effort to get any shot at all into Nana Plaza and that is where several go-go bars on the ground floor started to reopen as beer bars more than a month ago requiring the pre-Covid security team to manage crowd control at the entrance, the empty cubicles on the left side of Soi 7 before you see Random Bar are still covered with screens where there are now 4-5 new open bars and 2-3 more between Random Bar and Beer Garden, there was practically no one in front of Thermae where for weeks now you could count a dozen or so genuine females and groups of, yep, Asian customers stopping to chat with them and take some almost any night of the week, the near desolate shots of Soi Cowboy that has not been the case for 2-3 weeks and the very little vehicle traffic on Soi 4, Soi 7 and Sukhumvit Road where there has been almost as much heavy traffic as normal times for weeks.
Also, if I am not mistaken since the lighting was a bit dark, there is a shot where you can see the big Christmas tree in front of Terminal 21 in the background but it is not even fully assembled yet. BTW, the sign on that tree as it is now and has been since early November wishes all of us a Merry Christmas 2022!
That video might have been posted on YouTube at the end of December 2021. But it was obviously shot sometime in early November, before Nana Plaza partially reopened, several other bars reopened, new ones followed along with more customer traffic and more girls showing up for work. And even then it might have been fairly early in the evening on a rather slow night of the week.
That said, many of the pre-Covid beer bars are a shadow of their former selves, pre-Covid. But none of those areas are shadows of their former selves from 1 year ago or 18 months ago. LOL.

Bangkok is probably just 2 to 3 weeks behind Europe and the USA. Just the last 2 days infections has started to turn up again. Probably will explode next week.
The good news is that it appears to cause less serious illness than Delta and due to the explosive infectious nature will probably peak very quickly and subside just as fast. Hopeully we peak in Late Feb. And is mostly gone by late March?
