A couple of delayed site surveys.
Thursday – Charlie Parrot’s - Oasis Beach Hotel around 11
Two PRC almost certainly working, albeit very discreetly. Not at all packed and the number of couples and “only here for the beer” probably meant the Punter to WG was as good as anywhere on a Thursday. The “live” music consisted of a couple of Swedish girls and some taped backing tracks. YMMV but I thought they were appalling. Beer 30 AED / pint.
Saturday
Music Room 9 – 10:30.
Cheap beer and a few WGs.
Seaview 10:45 – 1:00 – Bear Market
Saturday seems like a good night to go to the Seaview, none of the manic weekend crowds that make Thursday and to a lesser extent Fridays so unpleasant. There were most of the usual PRC and ‘Stani faces plus a reduced contingent of Filipinas. There were also some new PRCs including a couple of nice ones.
The M/F ratio was very favourable without even considering that many of the Ms were, like me, there for the beer and band. A real buyers market if you are looking for “girl next door” type PRC’s.
Jules Bar - Le Meridien Airport Hotel
Just back from first recon visit. Mon 11pm-12.30am. Best way to enter is via the "Meridien Village" entrance (last turning on right before Airport Road if coming from Garhoud Bridge direction). I went through main hotel entrance and it's quite a trek in the heat past swimming pool and tennis courts. Cabs wait outside that entrance as well as at main hotel lobby.
Dh45 entrance, 1 free drink.
Probably 3:1 women:men ratio. Mainly stanis/CIS and PRC, unfortunately one of them a good friend of my GF so no chance for even sussing out price range without getting busted! A few Africans. Quality extremely variable across whole range from mediocre to hideous. Only three or four good lookers IMHO. Rest wouldn't tempt me but YMMV and it was a Monday night. Two extremly tall (6ft plus) amazonian bleached blond CIS who looked like they could crush you stood out like a sore thumb.
Two Filipino bands, mainly pop stuff. Second one had couple of good dancers/singers who were reasonable eye candy. Not a patch on Seaview band, but then who is?
Bar decorated in pretty stark white throughout which reflects even in low light, meaning you can check out the goods pretty well.
Two worries:
1 Floor to ceiling windows at the front of the bar mean it's not the most discreet - people can see in clearly while walking between other restaurants/bars outside.
2 As I left, three LE hanging about at entrance to "Village". Didn't see them bother anyone, but what were they doing there on a very quiet Monday?
A little disappointing for me. But other nights might be better.
Be careful out there.
