The daily number of positive test results isn't the critical number. The Ministry of Health rolls our attenuation policies based on ICU capacity. They could have 100,000 new cases per day, but if the hospitals aren't filling up, no restrictions are needed.

The good news is that the current fatality rate in Colombia is around 1 death per 150 cases. At the peak it was 1 per 46.

The major change between the peak and now is the percentage of the population which is vaccinated. The higher the vaccination percentage, the lower the fatality rate (and hospitalization rate). This has been clearly demonstrated around the world.

This is just a guess, but with current fatality and hospitalization rates, daily cases can reach at least 30,000 before any type of restrictions will be rolled out.

If the vaccine requirement for visitors has any noticeable effect on the daily number of new cases, visitors have to outnumber citizens, over the 2 week period the vaccine requirement has been in place.

The daily number of new cases is meaningless without considering the percentage of cases which result in hospitalization or death. Every day in the US about 3 million people experience the common cold. However almost every case is nothing more than a minor inconvenience.

Unvaccinated people who get Covid die about 2% of the time and are hospitalized about 13 times more often than vaccinated people. This is why countries are pushing for people to get vaccinated. It's very expensive to pick up the bill for those who refuse vaccination.

It's also why countries are requiring visitors to show proof of vaccination. Why should their own citizens suffer because medical resources are being wasted on tourists who refuse to be responsible?

Overdue trip report from a few months ago, just getting time to finally write down my thoughts.

It's best to start with what type of monger I am and what I look for. I like the GFE experience throughout the entire interaction. Back to my story I used seeking exclusively for my mongering activities while in Medellin. If you haven't used it before, be prepared for a hell of a lot of work, especially if you don't speak Spanish (I do not) it's going to be infinitely harder for you especially while trying to make a connection on dates. It is not proving to be that serious for vaccinated people, and the 3rd shot is giving a lot of protection against even getting it (around 70% For the unvaccinated, the results are not so great, but not as bad as previous variants probably. Hospitalizations are rising in parts of Canada now, for example, where cases are doubling in days vs weeks. And most of the serious outcomes are among the unvaccinated, but also among vaccinated folks in high risk groups.

It is going to sweep the world it appears. And it will do so quite quickly. In Canada we are a way beyond our capacity for PCR testing right now, many people that appear to have it cannot get tested any time soon, so we will never know the number of infections, but we will know the hospitalizations and deaths. Hopefully not that bad.

Keeping everything functioning is the big challenge. Just because so many people are sick and unable to work. This may affect Colombia as well, probably in a few weeks. Expect numbers of cases to double every few days until they get high enough that they can't be counted any more, but in reality they will still be growing exponentially. Colombia has had a lot of undocumented Covid already, which is probably why the Delta variant did not show up badly there. So who knows with this variant. Maybe Colombia will have better acquired immunity than many places.

I like to take photos and it is a mistake to wait until you are in the room to broach the subject. Some will flat out refuse. They have family or boyfriends and they simply will not take the risk. Others are open to it, but you have made it a lay up for them to negotiate an extra price for this. If you are smart the best thing to do is to tell the girl ahead of time what your preferences are.
