With Thailand I think it has changed a lot just within the last decade. Back in the late 90s you could get Ativan at B30 for a strip of 10. By 2003 the pharmacist had to sorta know you and prices had gone way, way up, at least in one popular place on Sukhumvit.

The Philippines has been restrictive on anxiolytics for longer but is becoming even more of an alternative for run-of-the-mill stuff grossly overcharged in the U.S. Some OEM meds in the foils like Lipitor 40mg are cheaper than Thailand, and there's a new pharmacy chain (the Generics Pharmacy) with 700 stores and a wide selection of meds, many made in the Philippines and some that previously had no generic equivalent there.

It's also probably the "surest" thing available for someone with more money than time, and even if you don't become a regular customer the experience is unique and memorable, a bit like the first soapy massage is. It took me 3 non-buying runs at Eden to overcome the price resistance, but I was glad I did from the first time, and have been 3 times in all.

I ain't on anything like that. I just take meds for very high BP. My bastard doctor here will only give me 2 months supply max. I can work from pattaya so I might be over there for longer than 2 months depending on how things go.

Obviously I do not know what kind of BP medicine you take but for years I've gotten my BP and Cholesterol meds in BKK. Cheaper than in the States and just walk in tell the guy what you need and there you are.

You are staying on Soi 9, I can't confirm maybe someone shopping there can? On Second Rd, across from I think Soi 13/1 or 13/2 is a Shopping complex call the " Avenue " in the back I saw a fitness club I think it was called California Club. They have daily monthly and yearly membership and I believe the daily rate at Tony's is 250 per day?

In regards to medication, medicine like Lipitor in Pattaya I have only found comes in 20mg but the price I found for the original like Lipitor is around the same as it in the states if you don't have insurance paying for it. It has been a while but it was something like 700/900 baht for Ten pills. You can get the generic Simvastatin 20mg is much much cheaper. As for High blood pressure medication the most common is Lisonpril, which can be purchase at most places without a perscription. For dependable products IMHO you can go to Pattaya Nua up from Big C, FACINOS. For some of the heavy duty heart stuff you might want to check the Pharmacy at Food Land on Pattaya Klang up from Carrefour.

But in the end regarding heavy stuff, you can always just go the the well known hospital that cater to Farangs give your story and I'm sure they can take care of you and keep the ticker going.

Tony's has a gym on 3rd road, and another on Soi 16 next to walking street. I've used the one on Soi 16 every time during my many visits to Pattaya, and it was great. The price was very reasonable at 99 baht per visit, but in late January they raised the price to 220 baht per visit, and closed for a complete remodel. The attached link to their website says that the new gym should have reopened in March, but it doesn't look like it's open.

bule forgets one thing about pharms in PP - depending on the drug, there is a significant quantity of FAKES out there. I SUSPECT that in some smaller kai-ya in Thailand, it might also be a problem (albeit, THEY don't know it EITHER - they bought from a middle man who was dealing counterfeits)

California WOW has a very strange price scheme indeed, I found a mention of a 2,000THB per week membership on their site, nothing about a monthly. There was also mention of a free 7 days pass, where I am sure you would be harassed every time you come in, however if you just say no, a whole bunch of times you may get a decent deal in the end. They have a yearly membership that costs 6000THB more than a lifetime membership there. With their lifetime membership, you have to pay a yearly "maintenance fee" of 100THB, if you miss the deadline, you loose your lifetime membership They of course will not tell you about the 15,000THB Lifetime Membership until after you have repeatedly turned down all of their other "packages"

Tony's has also gone to B220 (from B200), plus they've started charging for towels. Longer-term rates for one week and up can save you a little, but only if you go pretty much every day. Rates are much cheaper for Thais, something I'm sure they appreciate but I don't.

California Wow is really to be avoided. Nice facilities but too many little tricks and scams.

There are several small, very cheap non-AC gyms around Pattaya which are OK if you can get by with just free weights and simple machines. I've used one on 3rd Rd. just north of Pattaya Tai.

If you have a 24HR fitness membership, they might give you a week for free. I usually go to the one on Sukumvit and my friend goes to the one hear Patpong and they usually ask how long you are staying and I say one week and all you have to do is sign in and show them your 24hr. membership.

That's a deal. Never say no to an offer for a triple shot.
