I don't go crazy for most white chicas or Asian chicas, no real point for me to monger in eastern europe (cold in the winter) or Thailand.

I have been a long time lurker but have never made a post before. That is because I have never been to the DR before. I finally took the plunge and decided to come down.

My itinerary is as follows:
Arrive Wed Apr 7th – Blackbeards (1 night)
Thur Apr 8th – Sun Apr 11th – New Garden (4 nights)
Mon Apr 12th – Tues Apr 13th – FOD (2 nights)
Fly home Wed Apr 14th

I have booked my flight and have reservations at my hotels. Thanks to everyone who posts here (I RTFF) who made this all pretty easy. I do have two questions:

1) There have been a lot of posts on cell phones. I am from Canada so AT&T and Verizon do not exist here. Can I just buy a cheap phone down there and add minutes? I am not sure what an unlocked phone or a sim card is.

2) I want to rent a car for my trip as I want to take some day trips and do a lot of golfing. Where is the best place to rent a car? Some reports say online is a rip-off. Some say the POP airport, and there are a few other ideas (mind you I am a first timer). Any suggestions on the best and easiest deal for a newbie? I have also read that you should take maximum insurance regardless of what you have at home or with your Visa card?

Any help on these two subjects would be appreciated. Also, if there are any experienced mongers down there on these dates I would like to meet up and share some stories and info.

We drank beer, made jokes, and had a real good time, with ourselves and people around us.

Ok, that started it. For the first two nights she had to go home, and I got to hang back at the bar to sample more of the local product. But it wasn't the same with the other chicks, and I always looked forward to seeing my new friend the next day. At this point I was giving her money, but not too much and within my budget. I figured why else would a younger chick want to spend so much time with me. - Yeah, I know, but it was all new to me.

She told me it was her birthday and invited me to meet the family for a celebration. They came to town and we also got along great. Then they invited me to their place in a small town for Domingo fiesta where I met the rest of the extended family and friends. I was literally in heaven, they brought me cold beer, old ladies bringing me the best coffee I've ever had, a brabeque was set up and baminos and bambinas everywhere, competing to get my attention. What was strange that no one seemed uncomfortable that I was an older guy with this young (but I found out very mature and smart) chick. She made sure I was comfortable in the strange surroundings, and stayed close to me. (I buy all the beer)

If it was a game, it was the best scripted hollywood movie ever. I found she had told me the truth about her and her family from the very start.

Yes guys, I now go back regularly and in between send her a few bucks by Western Union. so maybe most of you will say I've been suckered, right from the first night, the get go, but hey, the pleasure I get from this girl is amazing. I've been married and have girl friends at home, but in terms of consideration she tops them all, reliable, trustworthy, I give her my wallet because she complains I spend too much, buying her friends drinks and such.

No issues, never a problem and she ignores all other men while I am with her.

I told my pals back home it wasn't realistic, and when I went back I tried to look for faults, with a cynical view, but each trip (5) has been as good as the last one. Since then I've been to SD to meet even more family and between her and her family I've never felt safer, even when I've often been the only white guy in a bar for a hundred miles, playing pool with her brother and her uncle. A bottle of scotch and a perfume here and there, and something for all the kids, is a small price to pay for paradise

I have had the same experiences as you have had several times in fact I am heading to SDQ on Wednesday and am going to the city of Azua to spend time with a girls family. I have known her for 2 years, I am 52 she is 27.

My real girlfriend is in Colombia, she is 26. We have an 8 month old child.

Both girls don't care about the age difference one bit, I have been introduced to and have spent time with their families and friends and have been accepted into their "circle" as if I am family and I enjoy it tremendously. It gives a person a real insight to the way these people live, I truly embrace it.

That being said, I love these girls very much but I am not IN love with them because let's face it, that age difference will always be there and an age difference like that has ingrained issues no matter what.

The main issue I see with your situation is sending her money. Spending money on her and buying SMALL gifts is one thing, sending money to her once you leave is a HUGE NO-NO, DON"T DO IT. Read this forum from pillar to post and you will see what I mean, you will be shocked. Also, stop sending her the money and then you will know for sure if she truly has feelings for you.

Thats why I draw the line at meeting family. If your goal is to travel and monger, this sometimes can hinder what you want to achieve. But yeah, you need to find an Orange or Claro store and you can buy a cheap phone and add minutes to it.

You can also buy an unlocked phone. Go to Amazon.com and search for "Unlocked" or "International" cell phones. They need to also be "Quad-band" (or "Tri-band" ?).

I bought a Motorola Razor for about $80 which worked perfectly during my last trip. I took it to the Claro store and they activated it with no problems and even put a small sticker with the phone number on the back. You will need to take your passport to the store with you and will also need to know the phone number to your hotel (they need that info).

Harsh response, but the best medicine is always bitter.

I would just like to add that the "Puta/John" set up is not limited to mongering. Just ask anyone who's ever been in the military. When I was in I knew guys who would send money back home to their "highschool sweethearts" only to one day get "that phone call (or email)" that she has gotten pregnant by someone else, found someone else, can't wait on you any longer, etc.

It gets even worse for guys who get married and then are deployed for 8 months to a year or more. If you have her living on base then she becomes "everyone's girl." While you are "dancing in the desert" she is back in the States running through your paycheck(s) and partying "like it's 1999" (Prince). I lost count of how many times I would run into a married girl in the club who would say "I'm married, but my husband is on deployment..."

I say all of this to say: Yes, this is all a charade. A beautiful one at that, but at least in the mongering world you have a bit more control than you would in an actual relationship or marriage (to a gringa). Enjoy your life and enjoy the Charade, but just don't go nuts (with sending money).

I don't consider you a sucker for wanting to help her out from time to time Oakie, but like other mongerers have said: you may not be the only one sending her money. Just take comfort in the fact that you could have done a lot worse.
