Out and About on the Town with the Tout
Guys:
I had the pleasure, earlier this week, of meeting Tout01 during this, his first trip to Davao. He has pried himself loose from Cebu to expose himself to the charms of this fair city.
Last night he, my wife and I ate a lovely meal at Henny's (Tout was impressed by the place) and then, at his suggestion, moseyed over to what used to be called the Blue Room, and is now called Club 10, at the Apo View Hotel. After a period during which the bar had no live music, it has recently been re-opened with music, a bit of refurbishment and a new name. It's still my favorite bar in Davao.
We had a great time listening for a couple of hours to an excellent, extremely energetic band. The bar was packed for most of the time we were there, with both the smoking and non-smoking areas jammed. Tout 01 chatted a bit with a couple of the bartenders/"have a drink with the customers ladies," though neither he nor I was sure if they were of the "take-away" variety. Two of them were great looking and for anyone interested in following up, this could prove to be an interesting experience.
When we left about midnight, Tout 01 was in the middle of the dance floor boogying away with a fine looking young woman whom he had shaken loose from a table of young Filipinos. I have no idea if he left with her and under what circumstances and we left while he was still in the middle of some complicated dance steps. This was after he danced with the lead singer while her male counterpart was doing a number.
As before, the bar serves top shelf booze at reasonable prices. My wife and I had, between us, six Absolut vodkas and lime drinks, and the total tab was less than Php1,000, which is a very small price to pay for a couple of thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining hours on the town.
Monday is the big Davao festival, and driving home we noticed throngs of people in the bars, and some in special venues created for the festival. I imagine that the partying went on till the early morning and that there will be more of same tonight.

Getting Drugged in Davao City
barba,
Thanks for posting. I had a very difficult time with your one Post. Longest paragraph I ever saw in my life. Try to break it down into small paragrpahs please.
In August 2004 I got drugged in Ralph's Wine Bar in Venue Plaza. I was there alone on a Monday night and allowed the *unt, Chin who was running the place in the absence of the owner (dumbest fucking thing to leave your business in the hands of a filipina) opened and poured my wine out of sight. She miscalculated the dosage however. At 6'4" and 240# it takes a bit more to bring me down.
When I felt something happening to me I got the fuck out, stumbled into a taxi. The driver had to help me up the walkway to GE's home where I was living back then. I got inside and collapsed on the livingroom couch. I awoke five hours later soaked in sweat. I reported the incident to GE who was away in Manila. He spent a good few hours trying to convince me I had not been drugged. BELIEVE ME THE TRAMP DRUGGED ME.
I had never had an experience like that before or after anywhere in the world. I have never returned to Ralph's Wine Bar at Venue Plaza and suggest that you guys avoid the Place also. GE says he reported the incident to the Owner but "who knows"? I saw the guy recently and he did not impress me as being the "sharpest nail on the wall".
The place called the Aquarium should be avoided by ALL GUYS reading this Forum and the tramps working there need to be reported to the Police. Personally, I avoid such fucking street trash and meet the abundance of gorgeous, young, regular ladies in Davao. I also stick to Bars and Restaurants that both GE and myself know to be reputable.
The Davao Police need to be made aware of this incident at this Aquarium and I do strongly urge you guys to stay away from it. I am aware of no one ever having a problem at one of the Hot Legs Clubs although these places also employ street trash with little in life to lose. So be careful. As foreigners we stand out in Davao, a very impoverished city with an abundance of Street Tramps, muggers, con men and ripoff artists.
By exercising caution, common sense and street smarts obtained over time I have been able to avoid any problems in Davao City over the last eleven years, save for the one incident in August '04. I have more detailed posts on this incident in the Aug '04 ancient davao board.
