you're right taxi's are going to rob you on that long a ride, but some of the gua guas make these long distance rides at crazy/dangerous speeds. not best for the faint of heart! (lol)

flying into the closest airport to where you want to be is [obviously] always your best bet.

I also have that kind of slips sometimes: a few weeks ago I was walking along one street in my *****less Western Europe city and I saw surprisingly a sign saying ‘Bar & Girls’, but when I read it for the second time I realised that in fact it said ‘Bar & Grill’, I couldn’t help laughing at my Freudian slip and my monger one-track mind.

Ha ha ha , yes I know what you mean. I however, don't live in a *****less western European City. I live in the USA, which is the epicenter of puritanical, provincial *****less cities!!

I plan on taking a short vacation from Asia and head to the DR. I would like some recommendations as to which city is the best for all around vacation and mongering. Appreciate your help.

Just read through the posts on the Dominican and you will see that the Dominican Republic is NOT the place for you to visit and monger at this time for all the reasons that are stated in the recent posts. I am a monger who is experienced in Asia myself, and you will be totally disappointed as the mongering in the Dominican Republic at this time is nothing compared to Southeast Asia. My suggestion to you is to checkout Costa Rica, Columbia or Brazil if you are looking to monger in a new area. I am sure you will find yourself having a much better time.

I would recommend Colombia if you want to see "new areas"...and especialy the jungle area. Realy nice animales....etc...etc and also very nice surroundings. Please go and visit and take your digicam and your shorts with you if you go!!! OOO and please don't learn spanish. You will have plenty of oppertunities to learn it there!!!;-)

Costa Rica???? OO man...that country is allready swarming with gringos and even Russian hookers in San Jose!

Your response to my post says alot about your intelligence as I am a white American and I was only responding to a post by LoveAsia, expressing my views after my recent trip to the DR. Is'nt this what this board is suppose to be about?.

Does anyone know what is the % in the USA of the population? It seems a very high % of the population in the DR considering elderly and children are also counted. I hope the research is exaggerating. Let me think twice about using condoms in the DR.

Researchers study number of AIDS/HIV patients in DR

A thesis presented at the Catholic University of Santo Domingo (UCSD) is estimating the number of people infected with AIDS/HIV to be 2.4% of the population. A total of 141,630 adults are living with HIV and new cases are expected to reach 29,000 in 2005. Since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, the researchers think that 79,000 people have died in the Dominican Republic from the disease. Researchers Emily Virginia Reyes Feliz and Gary Grullon Lopez found that 46.2% of the cases are located in Santo Domingo and surrounding towns, and 5.9% are located in Santiago de los Caballeros. Other cities, such as San Cristobal (4.2%) and San Juan de la Maguana (4.1%) were also studied. One interesting aspect of the study reveals that many of the victims (50%) abandon plans to commit suicide, and turn to God, making plans for the future and establishing goals for their lives. Much of the study was conducted at the Salvador B. Gautier Hospital in Santo Domingo. The researchers also concluded that globally the Caribbean is the area with the second highest incidence of AIDS, and amongst the Dominican population, AIDS is the leading cause of death in adults between the ages of 15 and 44 years of age. the government plans to spend us$23 million on promoting the dominican republic's image this year. the country has been and will be represented at 87 tourism fairs around the world ....... dr1 sources indicate that fiona gilmore from the uk, who is one of the world's leading authorities on country branding, has been contracted to advise on the branding of the dominican republic. she is expected to begin work in the fall.

on the positive side, tourism promotion efforts in russia, mexico, finland and argentina have produced increased flows of tourists from these areas. russian tourists increased by 111% and from finland by 605%. nevertheless, russian tourism is expected to decline given that the cost of a visa to the dr has now been set at eur250.

Hi LA,

I've been to every single crevice of this country and your best bet is Sosua/Cabarete area on the northcoast right now. I absolutely love the capital SDQ, its my favorite place, but I wouldn't go near Santo Domingo with the peso currently at 28.45 rdp to 1 usd.

At these exchange levels the price for food, drink and fun is going to be astronomical! Northcoast destinations are a [bit] more manageable.

No, six times as many is only a 500% increase. You need seven times as many for a 600% increase so you'd need 28 Finnish people.

I always want to go to DR but everyone tells me to stay in a resort because it very dang res to stay in the city I'm looking to meet girls and play have fun go out at night to clubs im from NY im looking to go with 2 of my friends I been to Brazil I had fun now im looking to go to DR can you tell me will it be safe for 2-3 single guys in DR at night and day.
