Give a tip for any reason other than the fact that they are poor. Feeling pity for these people shows how weak you are, and Thais disrespect weakness.

Thais are some of the most spoiled people I've come across in SE Asia. A lot of this has to do with people basically handing out money for nothing in return (not just for p4p).

I advocate tipping for good service. Maybe 100-200 baht max. None of this 500-1000 baht stuff.

The tourist restaurants in the Dominican Republic are like this as well. You will see a price on the menu, but if you look on the back of the menu you will see that a mandatory tax and a service charge are not included in the price. Should I still pay extra after this?

I always use the "When in Rome" rule. I ask or observe a local to find out how things are done. If I look around and don't see Thais leaving a tip, then guess what? If I am ever unsure about things I don't hesitate to ask the people working the hotel desk.

A tip for doing a good job? Well aren't they supposed to do a good job in the first place so that you will return and give then business again. You should not have to pay them extra for something they should already be expected to do. The tips that I have been giving out lately consist of mini chocolate bars. I buy a bag or two of them before I travel and give them out to such people as working girls, hotel staff, airport staff, even people who just happen to be next to me. It was the only princess starfish experience of the trip. What a disappointment considering how really hot the girl looked. I met her in Iron Club. With all due respect, I feel it is not the best choice for you to speak for others. In this forum, you have seen many people praise Kumbu's reports. I am a huge fan, and yes, I like Penthouse Forum. The difference is I believe Kumbu's adventures happened.
