Just a quick update on this seldom mentioned gem right at ground zero in Copacabana. It would appeal to those who like the mid to low end of the pay scale. Prices from 55 for 20 min to 125 for an hour.
There were 5 or 6 girls at 7:30, at least 3 in the running. I settled on a spectacular, if Bohemian, Minera who is all of 22. Cafe con leche, long curly hair and curvy figure. Great attitude and a simple beauty that can help with ones perspective when confronted by lesser but more produced Sirens.
This place is sort of an upscale BA85 type of place but only the one bar. So it is small. The cabinas are the partition style but clean, or relatively so. I was offered a shower. Better than BA85 not as good as day time casas like Bel Prazer.
Total damage 65 for 30 minutes with a goddess plus 4 for a beer. No entrada. At the corner of Toneleros and Siquiera Campos. 10 to10 Mon. to Sat.
With Help closed, everyone is asking where the action is. But as many already know, there are dozens of little casas all over the place, often in those office buildings all through Copacabana.
Unfortunately, they can be hard to find, but often when walking on Atlantica you'll encounter a tout who will offer to show you the places. While I usually recommend avoiding touts, it may be worth it to throw some Reals his way, as he'll talk you to places you didn't know existed, and where the girls are WAAAAY cheaper than the old Help girls.

That is a lot. I need to check this out because last time I was there, I didn't see any TVs. But that was a month or so back. Not to cast any aspersions, but it doesn't make sense. Who would they sell to? Unless the buying crowd has changed or mongers in large numbers get drunk and/or fooled, it doesn't make business sense.
This will probably start an argument, but I wonder if the story of the monger fooled by the TV is an urban legend. I have beenhearing the story for years and it is always a friend of a friend. The other thing to consider is that the TV probably wants no surprises. That could be dangerous.
I did see some tall women last time I was at Balconey, but definitely not TVs. It seems that some people find balcony girls very different from those at Help. I see a mixture of the former Help and Balcony girls. YMMV.

I do not want to beat a dead horse here because the purpose of this board is clearly not to discuss ad nauseam TVs but I do want to offer a closing comment since I brought up the subject. First, I think 35% is a high estimate but there are a lot more in the area of Balcony than I remember. Previously most TVs were along Atlantica, NS Copacabana or near Barbarella. The ones I saw were in a group or alone. I did not see any guys talking with them. I too question if they really have a market.
As for the story I wrote about the guy and the TV it came firsthand from the guy himself. His apartment was next to mine and around 4:00 AM I heard a ruckus in the hallway and asked him about it the next day. He is a big guy, well built and although it was hard not to laugh as he recounted the incident, he told it straight. I do not think that there is any bragging rights in telling your friends how you go suckered in by a TV and then because "she" was so hot you thought about doing "her" anyway.
Let's move on now and talk about real women. I cannot tell if they were non-GDPs, semi-pros or pros but lately all around Rio the women seem to be getting much more assertive. In Centro yesterday a young attractive woman carrying a political banner walked by me smiled and said lindo. On the metro another women smiled at me several times. Also on the metro I met a girl who told me she worked at Erotica and walked with me to NS before I had to go.
My point is that just being out and about offers some opportunities. And for those who do not spend much time in Rio, a smile is significant since most women are used to being hit on by Brazilians non-stop and unless they are interested, do not offer the slightest bit of encouragement.

With all due respect, in my opinion, discussion of the clients at monger bars is pretty important so let's not close that door until the place has been reported on a few more times. Both of us doubt the 35% figure, but that is fair game to discuss. As far as I know, the main area for these types is over in Gloria and I have never seen them in these numbers as reported in Copacabana. But maybe I have just missed it or things have changed. It would be good to know which.
As far as the truth of the story of the mistaken transvestite, I don't know for a fact. I only know what has been written. Again with all due respect, I have been hearing this story in different forms for 25 years. That does not mean the guy didn't tell you that or that it doesn't happen. For me, it remains as before: second hand. I personally have been approached by TVs in at least two countries and they have always let me know clearly what the deal was.
Anyway, no offense meant, just searching for truth and light, err, and the dark as well.

Do you not remember the scandal about Ronaldo the famous footballer fooled by two TVs? Not a monger but a local!!
There has always been a small crowd of quasi mulhers in copa. If you ask any of the long term sex workers in Copa they will tell you tales about clients who like to have threesomes with them. There has always been a market for them but not usually in the bar scene with the exception of the few who used to work help.

It sounds like we agree that it has not been heavy in Copacabana in the past. Of course there is a market, but mostly in Gloria from my experience. But maybe that is changing. Maybe they have overrun Balcony. I've gotta go check that out. That would be a sight to see.
Ronaldo got fooled? Now that is a good story.
If somebody isn't familiar with Balcony, here is their site:

Don't get fooled by the photos and videos thinking that Balcony is a bar with lots of hot girls.
Maybe somebody lied and said there all those tranny's to keep everyone away because he wanted all the ugly dogs at balcony for himself.
This might be a stupid question but does anyone know if VM opens on saturdays and sundays? I tried to search the forum but couldn't come up the answer. The reason I ask is b/c I arrive in Rio on Friday night, so I am trying to figure out possible options on the weekends.
Also does anyone have any idea which room (sala) number Clínica Espaço Zen is? I know it is on Rua 13 de Maio. I was looking on gpguia.net and I saw one post that said "1004'. Can anyone confirm this? Again, I searched this forum but couldn't find any info.
Thanks in advance!
VM never closes. But it might be slim pickings on certain times of the day or night.

Will be in Rio. First time. Don't speak Portuguese. Late 30s but in good shape and look young. Have lots of recommendations for places to visit from previous travelers but looking for a wingman, ideally one with some Portuguese:) Trying to arrange accomodation with Americoa but I might stay in a hotel as well.
Anyone else gonna be there and in a similar situation?
Cheers!

Cheers![/QUOTE]I will be making my third trip to brasil in three years. Will arrive in Rio a day before u. Speaking porto is not needed to have a good time in brasil unless you are trying to pick up non-pros. However, I do advise you to learn simple greeting phrases and numbers.
I usually go solo but if you need someone to show you around the centro area of Rio I have no problem helping you out.
I myself is looking for a partner to go to VM with me. Ideally one who has been there and know the ropes. But if you are also interested in VM, maybe we can find someone willing to take us there.
Three days is not enough to experience what Rio has to offer but you will definitely get a taste of the good life. Don't waste your time in copacabana, instead, go straight for the casas and termas in centro (my recommendation: Av. Rio Branco 185/2114 and Termas 4x4 and Cancun).
I finally got by there last night to check out the scene. It seems to keep changing because when I got there around 10:30 at what should be the peak time, the place was jammed with mongers, but had a shortage of garotas. Usually there are crowds of them on the sidewalk, inside, outside, etc. I stayed for an hour or so and it didn't change much. So not just a lack of talent which has been bemoaned on this board, but just a shortage of females, period.
An old friend who is always offering me massages and more than willing to call in reinforcements was thumbing through her book and making calls, but not able to bring in more garotas. It was a strange scene. But, it is low season and I guess many are taking time off. I didn't see any of the storied TVs but she told me they had been coming, but later, after midnight or 1:00.
So, from what I saw, mongers would not be threatened by the 35% figure reported except perhaps later. Don't know about that first hand, past my bedtime. However, I think people would have been disappointed last night with the selection. I expect this will change when the weather gets better. I managed to find something for 200 without any bargaining so probably could have gotten it for 150. Didn't feel like making the effort.
Meanwhile, the selection in Centaurus remains astounding. Some of the most beautiful and nice girls, not just in Rio, but in the world, are there. There is just about every type you could want there. IMHO. This is the big leagues, and no doubt you will pay for it. Still 450 -- thank god they haven't gone up again. And as ET said there is a nice crop of fresh faces at Luomo, not to mention a lot of familiar ones.
Centro
I have to report a major disappointment at one of my centro favorites -- RB 156, 3320. I got there early one day last week and was only introduced to 3 garotas. I picked the first, Tailita (or something like that) because she smiled a lot, talked and had bright eyes. In the sack she turned into one of those control freaks. You know the kind, they would be doing it in body armor if they could get away with it. Always blocking you with arms and legs, constantly grabbing the condom to check that it is still on, etc. I really hate that. Somewhat less than giving herself with total abandon. So watch out for that one.
Best value all around recently was Toneleros 173. However, I went by early yesterday and that was a real disappointment. They say they are open 10-10, but at 3:00 there was only one garota, not to my liking. So, I guess the advice is to go after 5:00 and before 9:00. Even though open until 10, at 9 some were already taking off it they didn't have something going. Small place, but if you catch it at the right time, it is great.
